Activity 2: Social Science

Name of the activity: Welcome to Our National Park/Wildlife Sanctuaries!

Ice breaking activity: The following video will be shown by the teacher to

help students understand the concept of conservation of flora and fauna

and different ways to do it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jufnzNXCJTs

Methodology:

The teacher will discuss the different ways through which our disappearing

flora and fauna can be preserved while highlighting the Government of

India’s initiative in the establishment of the National Parks and Wildlife

sanctuaries with special focus on Kanchenjunga National Park, Sikkim.

Following video will be shown as an additional teaching aid.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y0GpZU3Jwuc

The teacher will tell students:

To prepare a colourful and informative travel brochure of Kanchenjunga

National Park, Sikkim which includes the following information:

i) Facts about the origin of the park, location and its status as a World

Heritage Site.

ii) Details of flora and fauna preserved in this national park.

(Students can paste pictures of flora & fauna found in Kanchenjunga

National Park, create a map of the place and add special attractions in

Activity 3: Mathematics

Name of the activity: Let’s Find Out!

Methodology:

The teacher will discuss with students how forest covered areas can help

preserve the wildlife in Sikkim. Next, the teacher will help students to look

at the real picture of the area covered with forests in a particular state

through the following activity.

Students will be told by the teacher:

(i) To collect the numerical data on forest covered areas of different states of India- Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Manipur under the three categories of forests - Very Dense, Moderately Dense and Open Forests.

(ii) To represent the collected data in tabular form and compare the forest areas with the total geographical area of the particular state using ratio and percentage.

(iii) To represent the collected data of forest areas of all mentioned states in the form of bar graph by pasting coloured origami sheets as bars.

Note: Students will present the above information of the collected data in

a well organised and clearly structured Infographic Poster.

Sample of bar graph:
