Carol’s Corner
We have so much to share with
you this newsletter that I hope
each of you will take the time to
read this issue COMPLETELY!
I’m excited and I can’t even take
the classes! Carrie, Margaret,
Betsy, Maxine, Caroline and An-
drea have been so busy planning
classes and events for the re-
mainder of the year that I can
hardly keep up with them.
But let me hit on some highlights I want to make sure you know:
We have our new website finally
and the feedback is all positive.
Of course, we are still tweaking
things and new photos, news,
and product will be added daily.
Please check it out at our website and “Like” us on Facebook if you
feel inclined. We need all of the
“Likes” we can get to make sure
our “Google status” ranks highly,
as I understand it.
The fabrics in the store have al-
most completely turned over in the past several months so if you
haven’t been in, please come see
the lovely lines designers have
offered this spring season! Batik
lovers, a complete new line of ba-
tiks just arrived as well.
Class samples are out for you to
enjoy and they are so pretty! And there are some NEW offerings we
hope you will take advantage of
too.
No Fear Sewing will continue and
Caroline has proven to be an
exceptional instructor for new or re-
turning sewers.
Betsy is taking new quilters into the
wonderful world of quilting and her
students are singing her praises.
Our newest instructor, Andrea , will
begin teaching in June and her first class will be Color Theory! She just
graduated with her degree in art and
has totally proven herself to be an in-
credible addition to our staff! So if
you have ever wanted to become more
comfortable choosing colors for your quilts, sign up for her class and sup-
port this talented young artist.
April is the month Karen Sievert visits
Loving Stitches and everyone is ex-
cited to get to know her better. We
now have two of her award-winning
quilts displayed in the shop so you can get an idea of what her classes
and trunk show will be like. Remem-
ber, anyone who registers for either
class can attend the Friday evening
trunk show as our guest. Also, the
quilting class she will teach is for all skill levels of quilters, whether you
use sewing machines or short/long
arm machines…in other words,
whether you machine quilt sitting
down or standing up! Take advantage of this opportunity to learn techniques
from a master quilter.
We are sewing like crazy to prepare for
the upcoming September Quilt! Caro-
lina shop hop also! Just wait until
you see our quilt and small pro-
ject...they are beautiful! And since
this will be our second such event, we hope to be even better prepared to
show you a great time when you visit
during the “hop.”
Plans are underway for the First Ever
Quilting Retreat coming in November.
Our lodging is right on the oceanfront
and we PROMISE you will have more fun than two barrels of monkeys!
Sign-ups are being
accepted now with a deposit so be
sure to take care of that as soon as
possible so you won’t miss the fun.
We will only be accepting 50 partici-
pants.
Other soon-to-happen plans include
starting to do videos to show you

Good News from BERNINA!
Effective immediately, BERNINA of Amer-ica has changed what will come with cer-tain machines as standard accessories…GOOD NEWS FOR CONSUMERS!
BERNINA models 215 and 330 will now come standard with the slide-on table.
The BERNINA walking foot will now come as a standard accessory with the BERNINA 350 Quilter’s Edition machine. And...
BERNINA model 380 will now have the full shank, rather than snap on, presser feet.
Another reason we are so proud to repre-
sent BERNINA …valuable improvements
with no additional cost to our customers!
Carol LOVES
Wonder Clips
Because…
Wonder clips are a great alternative to pins, especially when working with heavy
weight fabrics, piles and vinyls.
They clip and hold right where you need them!
The backs of the clips are flat, so they sit securely on a work surface and feed
smoothly towards the presser foot when sewing.
Unlike pins, which can break sewing machine needles or cause snags as the fabric feeds, the clips are simply
pushed out of the way by your presser foot if you accidentally leave one in place.
They open wide for holding multiple layers of fabric such as for applying bindings, without damaging or distorting the
fabric. In fact, they have great holding capacity for different types of sewing, serging and crafting.
There are seam allowance markings of ¼” and ½” on the base of each clip (visible from the bottoms and the sides),
which makes it easy to maintain straight lines and even spacing in projects.
They can be used to hold layered sections of sewing projects such as handle connectors to handbags and piping
without distortion.
They are perfect for holding patterns in place for tracing and transferring. They hold patterns tightly in place around
fabric edges for easy cutting, even with multiple fabric layers. There is also no shape distortion on smaller pieces, which can happen when pinning patterns to fabric.
And they can be used in appliqué to hold pieces in place for stitching, and can be moved as you sew. This is espe-
cially great for felt appliqué, where every pin punch creates a new hole.
They hold fabric layers or embellishments flat, without changing their shape.
While using clips in place of pins for sewing projects isn’t exactly a revolutionary idea—I’ve been using mini binder
clips for years—it’s the design and execution that really sets these clips apart. It feels like each detail was well thought through with the needs of sewers in mind, and that nothing extraneous was added that didn’t need to be there. I think the Clover Wonder Clips delivered exactly what was promised: a quality, versatile tool that makes sew-ing projects easier.

CREATIVE SEWING CLUB IS HERE TO STAY!
We have finished the trial stage of Creative Sewing Club and now have a definite plan for our newest club
offering. This will be a LECTURE/DEMO/DO club with a lecture about the techniques that can be accom-
plished using specific presser feet in conjunction with specific stitches, needle positions, and machine set-
tings. Then, in addition to samples of the techniques that have been sewn, Carol will demonstrate how to
set up your machine and, with a video camera projecting the process on our classroom screen so everyone
can see, she will sew out some of the techniques that can be accomplished using the featured presser foot (or feet as the case may be). Finally, we will have a round robin of sorts set up so that everyone will get to
take part in the sewing experience and learn new techniques in the process.
By setting up the round robin tables, no one will have to bring their sewing machine or their supplies. How-
ever, we do request that everyone always bring scissors for, as you know, we are not permitted by law to
share scissors. So for clipping threads, just tuck a little pair of scissors for your personal use in your purse.
All BERNINA owners are invited to attend this new club which will be offered twice per month until we can
establish the best day and time based on attendance. The age of your BERNINA is not important because
they are all capable of accomplishing the techniques that will be shown. Remember, 90% of sewing involves
a straight stitch or a zig-zag. Needle position and stitch settings in conjunction with using the correct
presser foot, needle and thread complete the remaining 10% of the pie. You will have an opportunity to
learn how to fully utilize the sewing capabilities of your machine and much more in this new addition to our
club offerings. Give it a try and we think you will like it! Best of all, the club is only $5 per month thru De-
cember! Come on Saturdays, April 7th, May 5th, and June 2nd, 10:30 am—1 pm OR Wednesdays,
April 18th, May 16th, and June 20th, 2 pm—4:30 pm.

Lantana is the Baptist Assembly’s premier accommodation. Renovated and redesigned to emulate the turn of the century days of its birth, Lantana offers all the comforts of modern technology as well as aesthetic beauty of America’s finest inns.
In 1825 Congress authorized the construction of a fort on Oak Island. The fort was an outstanding engi-neering accomplishment, one of the strongest in the world. In 1833, the fort was named for the first governor of North Carolina and Revolutionary War hero Richard Caswell. The original fortification, much of which still stands, is the brick structure near the end of the island which overlooks the mouth of the Cape Fear River. This part of Fort Caswell was under construction from 1826 to 1836. Fort Caswell played a crucial role in the Civil War, World War I, and World War II. JULY and Bernina University are JUST AROUND THE BEND!
You may remember that last year when I and some of my staff were away attending Bernina University, the staff at home made some executive decisions about how to manage the store while I was away. They had quite a fun time and rumor has it that now that Bernina University dates have been announced, July 7 thru 12, they have the urge to make some more executive decisions! I have strictly forbidden them to do so.
You all know how serious I can get about doing things that instigate fun and laughter for any reason. These girls are
just getting completely out of hand but I am taking every measure I can think of to “reel them in” and get their assur-
ance that they will not act up this year. If any of you have time to help me by monitoring their unruly behavior during
the time I am scheduled to be away, please feel free to do so and advise me of your observations when I return so I
can take appropriate action. I may have to fire the lot of them for thinking outside the box!
