Lethal Luau—Our Summer Social
The day started with decorating the space and food prep and it ended in a solved murder and the awarding of a prized Flamingo for most votes to the non-killer and the drawing of the name for the prize from the 5 persons who collected all the clues and selected the correct suspect.
The hall was decorated with palm trees of various types paper, plastic blow ups and one made from a carrot and a cut green pepper, There were also images of Hawaii, images of Hula girls, paper lanterns and festive centerpieces on each table.
The evening started with beverages and finger food many of which were formed out of candies and took the shape of crabs. It was a sight to behold. Each person had a tropical blue jello salad at their seat which was surrounded by crushed graham cracker sand and had an umbrella and two sunbathing jelly turtles.
After the business meeting Geri kicked off the evening by reading the beginning synopsis and introducing the suspects and the questioner:
Suspects:
Nadia - the swimsuit model - Ronnie Joey - the surfer dude - John Holly - the wealthy socialite - Sue Chief - the tribal chief - Mike Leilani - the hula dancer - Anne Les - the bumbling tourist - Ted
Questioners Birdie - the golf pro - Marla Rip - the scuba diver - Bernie
After Introductions of each character and some salacious innuendoes between the cast of characters to throw the spotlight off of them and onto another dinner was served. There was pulled pork and bar-b-q , ham and cheese Hawaiian sliders, fruit in a carved pineapple, veggies and dip and several other items. During dinner the guests discussed who they thought the killer was and the suspects again tried to put on the best innocent face. Between dinner and dessert there was more interplay between the characters and a hula dance by Anne Schmidt, an emptying of her purse with an explanation for everything in it by Sue Converse, an unveiling of a past life of Ted MacDonald, an explanation of his source of funds by John Core and a tribal ritual dance of death by Mike Miller. At each turn Bernie White and Marla Miller questioned each suspect closely and made them give up their secrets. After the dessert of festively decorated cupcakes each suspect gave a closing statement and the guests all voted which suspect they believed did the dirty deed. The prize for most votes but not be-ing the killer went to Ted MacDonald and he won a pink lawn Flamingo. There were only 5 correct guesses of the killer and Maeann Unser’s daughter Mariah won the drawing. The killer will be re-vealed in the following pictures. Each character in the function was given a Hawaiian scented candle and the extra food was sold for good will donations so there weren’t any leftovers. The room was returned to its pre-festive layout and the decorations were put into storage bins and taken to Cathy’s car. It was a fun night of enter-tainment and Geri got a great chance to see one of her Murder Mysteries done on a large scale and she felt it was a great success. I am sorry there were not more members in attendance but those who were there had a great time and everyone went home happy and cant wait for the next one.
Sue Converse walks back to
the table after delivering her
story and in addition a view of
