The Country Quilterie Carriage House Square, Office and Retail Complex locat-ed at 2785 Route 115, Effort, PA 18330 has been honored for be-ing one of only seven-ty featured sites, in the entire United States and Canada (and one of only six in the State of Pennsylvania) for it’s unique and inter-esting design, function and use of green space “designed with na-ture and for people”,

steaks and funnel cakes, and live enter-tainment. in the newest edition

of “Rural By Design”, a detailed reference guide book for archi-tects, planners, and everyone involved in planning the towns and open spaces in America. Written by renowned author and lecturer, Randall Ar-endt, this reference book is used in librar-ies and universities throughout the United States. Designed and

owned by Arthur and MaryAnn Kwant of Effort, Carriage House Square fea-tures a rear parking field, creekside deck (overlooking Pohopo-co Creek), with park benches, picnic tables and photo spots, plus several out build-ings, including San-ta’s Workshop, the Woodcarver’s Cottage and the lde Quilding

School. The main building’s six units are occupied by Pennsylvania State House of Representa-tive Jack Rader (176th; Legislative District), Occasion Reflections (locally made crafts and gifts), the Quilting Academy (Quilting School), Be You Tiful (girl’s day spa), Cox Claims Group (interContinued on Page 2

national insurance claims office), Effort-less Communications (Motorola business two-way radios), and Fairhaven Properties (residential apart-ment, condo and town home rentals) The second build-ing’s two units is oc-cupied by the Coun-try Quilterie (fabrics, quilts, quilting sup-plies and home decor), and Carolina Quilt-works (online fabrics, patterns, quilts and quilted accessories). For fifteen years, Santa’s Workshop, at Carriage House

Square, opened it’s doors every Thanks-giving weekend to the local children and their families, and were greeted by Santa and Mrs. Claus who listened to their Christmas wish list, posed for pictures, and gave each child a special little gift.

(Mrs. Claus was own-er MaryAnn Kwant’s mother, Anna Weber of Gilbert, PA). For seventeen years, Carriage House Square held the larg-est Arts and Crafts Festival in the Pocono Mountains, three times a year, on Me-morial Day, Labor Day

and Columbus Day weekends. This huge Festival, with over one-hundred twen-ty-five crafters, from all over the United States and Canada, featured live music, live demonstrations, delicious Pennsylva-nia specialty foods, like Philly cheese

Let’s Talk About It Let’s face it. No one wants to talk about the tragic effects of mental illness and suicide. However, it can happen in any family – and does – every, single day. It’s time to end the stigma. ‘Let’s Talk about it’ will be an evening of sharing personal stories, questions and answers and starting a much-needed dialog in the Lehigh Valley about suicide awareness. Diane Holmes, who lost her son, Tylor, in 2012, will speak about

the effects of suicide on her and her family. Medical professionals will also speak about bullying and warning signs that we can all look out for in our loved ones and friends. ‘Let’s Talk about it’ will be held on Thursday, May 21 at Grace Lutheran Church (5907 Sullivan Trail, Nazareth, PA 18064) from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Reservations are not necessary, but feel free to call or text 484-633-1111 with questions or to RSVP.

The T. Holmes Foundation is a non-profit organization offering educational resources promoting suicide awareness & prevention. For more

information, visit tholmesfoundation.com, call 484-633-1111 or email [email protected].

(NAPSI)—With the array of cleaning op-tions at the grocery store, it is easy to forget that the most natural and effective cleaner could be sit-ting in your cabinet at this very moment. Vinegar is an all-in-one cleaner. It can take on most any cleaning challenge, no matter the size, and there’s no need to worry about harmful effects typically associated with harsh, chemical cleaning agents. Bud-get conscious and eco friendly, vinegar is truly a product with many talents.

Live Green With White Vinegar

An online survey conducted by The Vin-egar Institute found that cleaning/disin-fecting are the second most popular uses for white distilled vinegar next to food prepara-tion uses. Here are a few hints on how to utilize the cleaning power of vinegar in your home: • Use full-strength vinegar to banish grease and eliminate mildew. • Dilute with water to remove grease and grime on miniblinds. • Use full strength to clean chrome fix-tures and whiten grout. • Dilute with water to brighten brickwork. • Dilute with am-monia and baking soda to freshen a musty closet. • Mix with salt and baking soda to unclog

‘Cleaning Green’ With Vinegar

drains. • Dilute with water to deodorize the gar-bage disposal. • Spray full strength to get rid of unwanted grass and weeds. • Use full strength to remove your child’s ballpoint pen “art” from painted walls. • Dissolve 1 tea-

spoon of salt in 1 cup of white distilled vine-gar and stir in flour un-til it becomes a paste. Apply paste to brass, copper or pewter and let it stand for about 15 minutes. Rinse with clean warm water and polish until dry. • Add 2 tablespoons sugar and 2 table-spoons white vinegar to a 1-quart vase of water to keep flowers fresh longer. • Mix white dis-tilled vinegar and lin-seed oil to clean leath-er. Rub the mixture into the leather and then polish with a soft cloth.

This information comes from the pro-fessionals at The Vinegar Institute, an international trade association represent-ing the vast majority of vinegar manufac-turers and bottlers, as well as suppliers to the industry. Mem-bers manufacture a range of vinegar types including white dis-tilled, apple cider, bal-samic, red wine, white wine, malt and rice vinegar.

(NAPSA)-Even after a storm has passed, there are still some things to watch out for. For example, elec-trical dangers may still pose a risk throughout the community and even in your home. You and your family should beware of elec-trical dangers associat-ed with downed pow-er lines and electrical wiring or appliances that have been ex-posed to water as a re-sult of severe storms.

How to Protect Yourself

Downed power lines are extremely dangerous. You cannot tell whether a power line is energized just by looking at it. That means you should as-sume that all downed power lines are live. If you see a downed power line, move away from it and anything touching it. The ground around

power lines-up to 35 feet away-may be en-ergized. Shuffle away taking small steps, keeping your feet together and on the

ground at all times. This will minimize the potential for a strong electric shock. Never attempt to drive over or move a downed power line; instead, report it to authorities. If someone is in con-tact with a downed power line, call 911 immediately but do not touch or ap_proach the person so as not to put yourself at risk of injury. “After a storm, it’s important that you don’t turn on or plug

in appliances until an electrician has in-spected all electrical appliances that have gotten wet,” advise the experts at the

Big or Small, We Take It All

Including Campers, Boats & Cars

Severe StormsContinued From

Page 13 above the electrical outlets, contact a li-censed electrician be-fore turning on the main circuit breaker.

(NAPSI)—New re-search by UCLA-af-filiated anthropolo-gists found that most American families are overwhelmed by clut-ter and can’t even find room to park their cars in the garage because of all the stuff they’ve stuffed in there. Fortunately, wheth-er it’s spring-cleaning

Four Steps To A Neater House And More Free

Timetime or any time, you may not have to spend as much time, effort or money as you may think to get your home clean and uncluttered, if you follow these four simple steps from home organization ex-perts: 1. Get The Kids In-volved: Make house-cleaning more like a

fun challenge. List all the chores that need to be done. Pick the ones that are age ap-propriate—organizing a bookshelf, hanging things in the closet, fluffing sofa pillows and so on—and write them down on slips of paper or post them on a wall. Roll a pair of dice to see who gets to pick first, and have everyone (par-ents included) choose a chore. This will give the kids some auton-omy and they may be more willing to pitch in. 2. Tackle One Room At A Time: If you ha-ven’t a lot of time to straighten up and clean the whole house, just focus on one room, even one part of

a room, per day or per weekend. Keep a list or a chart and check it off as you go. At least something will be clean and you won’t feel overwhelmed. 3. Make Your Appli-ances Work For You—

Not The Other Way Around: A well-or-ganized kitchen and laundry room are eas-ier to keep neat and less daunting to keep clean. One help can be a refrigerator with a

separate, convenient door within a door

that’s accessible fromContinued on Page 15

Free TimeContinued From

Page 14 both the inside and from the outside with a simple push of a button, such as the LG 4-door double “Door-in-Door” fridge. The design makes it easi-er to load often-used items, such as snacks, drinks, lunches and more, so you don’t have to stop for very long to fuel up when you need it. The oth-er side provides ad-

ditional storage space easily accessible via a trigger on the bottom of the door for more convenience and bet-ter organization. That means your food stays front and center, while the reduction in cold air loss helps keep it fresher longer. In the laundry room, you can have a dryer with dual-open-ing options, like the LG EasyLoad dryer, that lets you open the door either hamper

style (to easily load in wet clothes from the washer) or by swing-ing to the side as in traditional front-load machines (to quickly unload clothes into the laundry basket). This makes it easier than ever to both drop in and unload your laun-dry, saving your back from unnecessary strain. 4. Little By Little,

You Can Do A Lot: Break large chores down into smaller ones that are more manage-able. Instead of think-ing “I have to clean the family room,” think “The books have to be shelved; the floor swept; the table dust-ed.” Write it all down and cross off each job as it’s done so you can see how much you’ve accomplished.

You can find further facts on helpful appli-ances and electronics online at www.lg.com.

Electrical equipment exposed to water can be extremely danger-ous if re-energized without proper recon-ditioning or replace-ment. Keep in mind, bat-tery-powered light-ing is the safest and easiest power source when water is around.
