The structure of your faith-based organization will determine how you register your organization, and what paperwork will be required for TechSoup qualification.

Organizational StructureDo you have tax exempt status at the local level?

• Determine if your organization has tax exempt status at the local level

• Submit your organization’s 501(c)(3) IRS letter. (The Tax ID shown should match your TS account)

• Submit Name / Address Clarification Letters if org name or TS shipping address does not match IRS letter

Local churches affiliated with national religious organizations; nationally affiliated faith-based organizations; and organizations covered under IRS ‘Group Rulings’:

• Organizations that proselytize or propagate belief in a specific faith

• Missions without secular, social benefit programs

• Advocacy organizations that promote policies of a particular faith

Non-religious Secular Programs

• Qualifying secular programs of religious organizations may be eligible for additional donations

• A qualifying secular program provides nonreligious services to people regardless of their religious beliefs and does not propagate a belief in a specific faith.

– Example: A food bank with nonprofit or charity status that is run by a church, but is a separate and unique organization that provides food and meals to anyone who qualifies for services, regardless of religious beliefs.

Qualifying Secular Programs

• Important: An organization is limited to one TechSoup account, so you must decide whether to register your secular organization or its religious parent organization. If you register your secular organization or program, all donations must be used primarily within that program.
