“Give instruction to a wise man and he will be still wiser, teach a righteous man and he will increase his learning.”

Proverbs 9:9

Dear School leaders, Thank you for the amazing work you have completed, leading your school communities through a challenging year. It has been an honour to provide CPDF (Continuous Professional Development and Formation) for you and your team throughout this past year and to work alongside you.

We have listened to your feedback about what you’d like next year, taken on board Ofsted requirements and studied the research on the best CPDF and how it is delivered.

As a result, the timetable of CPDF looks different this year. It’s arranged according to Catholic Life, Leadership and Curriculum, in half term blocks, and has hyper-links for you to book places directly on our website. You will be sent reminders about upcoming CPDF throughout the year.

A big focus for Ofsted is how YOU supporting your staff to lead their subjects, with that in mind, we have a series of Development and Support networks. I will attend all of these, they will have up to date, relevant CPDF and an option to network and learn from others.

We are developing relationships with preferred partners and are delighted to be able to offer you discounts with these partners throughout the year. We understand that some schools may be looking to sign up to the DRB Leadership Briefings for next academic year and wanted to make you aware of a special offer that will be available to schools who subscribe to the Catholic Primary Partnership in academic year 2021-22. We will be offering access to the termly online DRB Leadership Briefings (and associated weekly updates/support) for just an extra £270 (for the year). The DRB briefings usually cost schools £120 per term (£360 per year) and so we are able to provide a fantastic £90 discount for schools that wish to buy into both us and DRB for the year. We are proud to be providing the Building the Kingdom, Level 1, training in partnership with the BDES and Sister Judith Russi; demonstrating commitment to providing the very best for Catholic Schools. After nine months with me as Director, I hope you can see that the Catholic Primary Partnership is evolving, building on previous strengths and moving forward to meet your needs. Let us know how we are doing and what you need next. We are YOUR Catholic Primary Partnership.

Kind regards

Julie-Anne Tallon

Director

As the Catholic Primary Partnership enters a new chapter, under new leadership, it was essential to revisit the vision and mission of the organisation. The partnership was set up by Catholic headteachers, to support and serve Catholic headteachers. Our vision is to ‘S.E.E’. We are committed to being a Catholic organisation moulded by the example of Christ, we are committed to servant leadership. We strive to provide excellent CPDF, to ensure all stakeholders are given every opportunity to become the person God has called them to be. We want to constantly evolve, nurturing a culture of constant review, evaluation and planning for next steps to review what we’ve done and build upon strengths to offer our schools the very best.

What is the Partnership

Vision?

Servant Leadership

Mission Integrity - a commitment to Servant

Leadership; evident through interactions, service and

SUPPORT to all.

Evolving

A culture of constant evaluation, reflection and improvement to provide the very best

for our schools.

Excellent CPDF

Inclusive of Leaders at all levels - developing all stakeholders to be the person God has

called them to be and empowering them to

develop the children in our care to achieve

their best.

4

Loving God,

We asked for strength, and you gave us difficulties to make us strong.

We asked for wisdom, and you gave us problems to solve.

We asked for prosperity, and you gave us purpose and brains to use.

We asked for courage, and you gave us fears to overcome.

We asked for patience, and you gave us situations where we were forced to wait.

We asked for love, and you gave us troubled people to help.

We asked for justice, and you called us to be just and lead with integrity.

Lord, we have received nothing that we asked for or wanted.

And yet, we receive everything that we needed.

For this we give thanks.

Catholic Life

CPDF, Provider, Date Description Building the Kingdom With Sister Judith Russi This is a 5 day CPDF. All 5 sessions must be attended. Day 1 Tuesday 6th July 2021-Zoom due to Covid restrictions Day 2 Monday 8th November 2021 Day 3 Wednesday 9th February 2022 Day 4 Tuesday 17th May 2022 Day 5 Thursday 30th June 2022 9.00am – 15.00pm face to face at Don Bosco House, B46 3EA

For SLT and class teachers

responsible for designing the curriculum.

Note-to prepare for the up-coming academic year, Session 1 is in JULY 2021

Developing a radical 21st century curriculum in a Catholic School: contextualising the National Curriculum within the beliefs and values of the Catholic tradition. BTK focuses delegates on wider curriculum opportunities to reinforce SMSC and Catholic Social Teaching across a range of subject areas, thereby contextualising learning in line with the mission of a Catholic School. Supports teachers and SLT to shape their curriculum design using the beliefs and values of our Catholic faith ensuring that the design, implementation and impact is evident to ensure your curriculum is distinctive. We are proud to be working in partnership with the BDES and Sister Judith to provide this CPDF Non-attendance at days will result in a charge. To book: If you book on 1 session we will automatically book you on all 5 sessions. https://www.bcpp.org.uk/events/kingdom-module-1/

Directors note: An amazing opportunity to review how your own bespoke curriculum mapping reinforces Catholic Social teaching and SMSC. Big questions of purpose and meaning that arise through the Liturgical year are explored. Delegates are provided with the building blocks to engage students with the skills needed to be agents for a Spirit fuelled transformation of society. Delegates will work with Sr Judith Russi SSMN to consider approaches that will promote critical and higher order thinking skills across the curriculum. Developing a wide range of creative strategies for moving learning into action, faith in action; and will be supported to enable students to develop their advocacy skills for change for those in the greatest need in society.

7

This CPDF is great for staff responsible for curriculum design. Schools that already follow BTK- this would be great for staff who are joining your school this year, so they really ‘get it’. (Negotiate a way for them to attend Day 1 in July-first day is essential) New to BTK? Send staff that will make a difference, staff that will drive this forward. This is NOT for your RE leader (although they are welcome) it is a whole curriculum approach. As Headteacher, I introduced BTK to our school, it was transformational to our curriculum and to the way we thought as a community. I wholeheartedly recommend this. Note-the partnership and BDES are working together to present this opportunity.

Take it now.

For Middle Leaders new to post or would appreciate a

refresher on holding others to account.

Martin is an experienced Headteacher, Executive Headteacher and supports schools across Salford and the UK. To book: https://www.bcpp.org.uk/events/middle-leaders/

Director’s note: Martin is an outstanding Catholic school leader, this promises to be a great session for middle leaders in their first 3 years in the role, particularly supportive as many have been unable to show impact and develop their skills over the past 18 months of disruption.

Aspiring Senior Leaders. Director’s note: This is a must for your DHT, AHT and any senior leaders showing potential to move up. You could use this as an opportunity to train your SLT by booking extra places. Andy gives excellent advice and guidance in an engaging style. I would certainly be sending my SLT.

Headteacher Briefing Meeting Friday 1st October 2021 9.00am - 1.00pm (Lunch included) Edgbaston Stadium, B5 7QU

An opportunity to network with other head teachers face to face and ensure that relationships are established and strengthened between Catholic school leaders. To book: https://www.bcpp.org.uk/events/headteacher-briefing-meeting-2110/

Directors note: This is the one thing Headteachers have been asking about all year. When can we have face to face briefings for Heads again? Some Heads really value the opportunity to get together, to check in on each other, to be a community. Other Heads are not bothered. I would urge you to come. It’s a way to welcome and support new heads. It’s a chance to catch up with people you might not have seen in a while. It’s a chance for you to have some ‘head space’ away from school. It’s a chance for your deputy to feel trusted and valued as you leave them in charge. It’s fully recommended that you take the afternoon off site and reflect on what you’ve heard and give yourself time to THINK, away from the school building.

Your subject knowledge will be strengthened and your ability to lead improvement across your school enhanced. Each session includes an extended opportunity for open questions and answers, building a Catholic computing community of practise and as a cohort the ability to determine the expert input and themes of future sessions. The first session includes:

• Current challenges to delivering the curriculum – how can I be confident that our curriculum is spiral and assessment is robust? What are the end points, and what are the way points that get you there? How can I demonstrate to stakeholders that our route is sequenced and effective?

• A glimpse of the future – “Is the current curriculum fit for purpose?”

• Open floor – your questions, your hopes for future sessions, maintaining a community of practice

To book: Book onto the first session and we will automatically book you onto all 6 sessions. Session 1 https://www.bcpp.org.uk/events/computing-support-group-2109/

Celebration of Holy Mass in remembrance of deceased headteachers and welcoming new headteachers Wednesday 24th November 2021 2.00pm Mass with Mgr Menezes Face to face: St Chad’s Cathedral, B4 6EU

Adapting to Change: Effective Tools For Resilience & Stress Management

How do we 'thrive' rather than simply 'survive' in times of uncertainty and change?

32

with Hugo Metcalfe (Psychologist & Researcher) Wednesday 2nd February 2022 9.00am - 12.00 noon Zoom

For CSELs, Headteachers, Heads of School, SLT, middle

leaders, teachers, TAs.

Perfect for Individuals and Teams looking to improve

Personal Resilience and develop effective tools to cope with stress and respond

to uncertainty in changing times.

To build Personal Resilience and Adaptability we need to understand the relationship between Uncertainty, Stress and Wellbeing. Stress management and wellbeing training programs are not new. However, much of the focus has been on reducing staff stress, whilst research suggests that low wellbeing is not only a result of

increased stress but also a lack of Personal Resilience.

Actively developing Personal Resilience can be up to 3x as effective in supporting Stress Management and adapting to change then standard stress management programs alone.

This session brings together the latest research on Resilience & Stress Management to build a program that develops greater awareness and supports lasting change.

Resilience is the key to lasting Stress Management

THIS SESSION AIMS TOO:

Develop an understanding of ‘Wellbeing’ in the workplace / school environment, including key research

findings, facts and figures.

Identify the signs and symptoms and understand the neuroscience of stress.

Define strategies to reduce stress, adapt to change and build personal resilience.

Learn individual and organisational level interventions to effectively build resilience to promote stress tolerance and growth, in times of uncertainty and change.

To book:

https://www.bcpp.org.uk/events/adapting-to-change/

Director’s note: I honestly think that stopping and investing in actively developing Personal Resilience will be a great investment of time for Leaders at all Levels. Access this CPDF at home and fully commit to it-the results may be phenomenal…

For Headteachers, Senior staff, PSHE leaders,

Citizenship leaders and interested staff.

A hard-hitting session highlighting the importance of language used in Primary School including our responsibilities around FGM (Female Genital Mutilation.) In shaping young lives, this session reframes the sense of keeping women safe in society to the correct approach to Christian responsibility where an imbalance exists: to teach our boys and young men a lifelong respect for women. “I was privileged to attend this session led by Sarah Hewitt-Clarkson. Throughout the session many light bulbs went on in my head at everyday language and presumptions that seem small but contribute to a much bigger problem in perception and reality. I recommend it highly.” Mgr Timothy Menezes. To book: https://www.bcpp.org.uk/events/misogyny-sexism-fgm/

Directors note: I attended this hard-hitting training myself and am still reflecting on it. It’s powerful, it’s shocking, it makes you think. Due to content, this is best accessed from home and not in a public shared space.
