The learning enterprise
The Cognitive Enterprise will be composed of an ecosystem of “smart” platforms
Competitive advantage will depend on how fast a core platform can learn and adapt to the shifting marketplace
Workflows and processes at the center of platform differentiation are:
- infused with proprietary data
- powered by AI, IOT technologies and Blockchain
- always improving with machine learning
- shifting the man-machine interface
- Shifting from IT to OT integration to action on data

Smart, AI enabled IoT services for the port of the futureThe largest port in Europe needs to leverage real time visibility of key assets against KPIs. Condition, location and availability currently determine productivity of the port.
Business problem- PoR needs a strategic platform and went
through a lengthy process of evaluation to select a partner for 20+ years of scalability.
- Maintenance of key assets is a core KPI that will impact net productivity of the port - any failure will reduce load/unload processes.
Solution- IBM will use Watson IoT platform to build
a predictive maintenance solution that enables optimized Port Call services and provides a digital lab for autonomous ship movements in the future.
- IBM and PoR will partner to determine a phase 2 cognitive service currently being scoped.

Outcome• Prevents ~800 vehicle
collisions a year• Reduces claims expenses
by 10-15% annually• AI model recognizes
truthfulness of crash, thus reducing assistance costs by up to 50% and reducing cost of customer care by 45%
Business NeedImprove competitiveness by shifting away from price-based business models
• IoT telematics enable UBI insurance
Reorient customer relationship from risk management to risk advisory
• Sensors and geo-location data detect and respond to crashes
Address vehicle theft and fraud in high crime areas
• Sensors and geo-location data track vehicle locations in real-time
SolutionGBS Services and Watson IoT engaged with G-Evolution to create an E2E telematics platform
• Includes device procurement and delivery
• Integrates core insurance data, contextual data (traffic and weather), and telematics data with AI to deliver new strategic offerings
• Enables vehicle tracking, collusion-detection, fraud prevention, and usage-based insurance

Adding product and service capabilities to simplify everyday life driven by Internet of Things
Inwido has a natural place in people’s homes and can take their products to the next level in the Cognitive Smart Home domain.
Business problem- Inwido manufacture windows and doors,
they look to utilize the Internet of Things to collect data in the manufacturing process and through their locks and control items.
- Customers want innovative window and door concepts, together with accessories, that meet future needs and improve well-being.
Solution- IBM will use the IoT platform to enable
use cases in healthy home living, access safety and planning leisure.
- Data will be collected and monitored to manage and control concepts ensuring maximum customer experience.

The leading FMCG manufacture partners with IBM to implement a connected manufacturing platform in 40 sites globally to connect machines, operators and sites
Business problem To maintain world-class manufacturing
status, L’Oreal needs to capture, analyze and derive insights from instrumentation and sensors in its production facilities
Lack of such insights was reducing overall operational excellence, productivity and throughput, as well as increasing labor and working capital costs
Solution IBM will use Watson IoT for Manufacturing
platform to build a predictive maintenance solution that enables visualization of production lines for detection of short term events, predictive Analytics on OEE and speed of machines and real time monitoring of operator health and safety

Using IoT to keep France’s railways running smoothly
Watch the video
SNCF engineers can connect to running trains in real time, allowing SNCF to anticipate failures, such as a faulty signal components, in real time.
Business problem- France’s nationalised network and
rolling stock is aging, at the same time as a new generation of agile maintenance services is needed.
Solution- Deploying sensors on trains and
tracks creates tens of thousands of data points in the IBM cloud, all in real-time.
- SNCF can prevent trains from being taken out of service while avoiding more costly repairs. This improves productivity, customer experience and revenues.
