Opening Hymn: “Lift High the Cross” LSB 837

refrain Lift high the cross, the love of Christ proclaim

Till the entire world adore His sacred name.

1 Come, Christians, follow where our Captain trod,

our king victorious, Christ, the Son of God. Refrain

2 Led on their way by this triumphant sign,

The hosts of God in conqu’ring ranks combine. Refrain

3 All newborn soldiers of the Crucified

Bear on their brows the seal of Him who died. Refrain

4 O Lord, once lifted on the glorious tree,

As Thou hast promised, draw us all to Thee. Refrain

5 Let ev’ry race and ev’ry language tell

Of Him who saves our lives from death and hell. Refrain

6 So shall our song of triumph ever be:

Praise to the Crucified for victory! Refrain

Opening Responses

L This is the day which the Lord has made;

C let us rejoice and be glad in it.

L From the rising of the sun to its setting,

C the name of the Lord is to be praised.

L Better is one day in Your courts than a thousand elsewhere; C I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God

than dwell in the tents of the wicked.

L Make me to know Your ways, O Lord.

C Teach me Your paths.

L Sanctify us in Your truth.

C Your Word is truth.

L From the rising of the sun to its setting,

C the name of the Lord is to be praised.

C Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy

Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be

forever. Amen.

Prayer

Almighty God, You invite us to trust in You for our salvation.

Deal with us not in the severity of Your judgment but by the

greatness of Your mercy; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our

Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one

God, now and forever.

Scripture Reading Philippians 4:4-13 4Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice.

5Let your

reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; 6do not be

anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication

with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7And the

peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts

and your minds in Christ Jesus. 8Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is

just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if

there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about

these things. 9What you have learned and received and heard and seen in

me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you. 10

I rejoiced in the Lord greatly that now at length you have revived

your concern for me. You were indeed concerned for me, but you had

no opportunity. 11

Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have

learned in whatever situation I am to be content. 12

I know how to be

brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance,

I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and

need. 13

I can do all things through him who strengthens me.

L This is the Word of the Lord.

C Thanks be to God.

Responses:

L Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will

raise up for David a righteous Branch.

C This is the name by which He will be called: The Lord Is

Our Righteousness.

L He shall reign as king and deal wisely, and shall execute

justice and righteousness in the land. C This is the name by which He will be called: The Lord Is

Our Righteousness.

L Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.

C This is the name by which He will be called: The Lord Is

Our Righteousness.

Lord's Prayer

C Our Father who art in heaven,

hallowed be Thy name,

Thy kingdom come,

Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven;

give us this day our daily bread;

and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those

who trespass against us;

and lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.

For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory

forever and ever. Amen.

Message: Think About These Things…

Rev. James Kirschenmann

Prayers

Blessed Lord, You have caused all Holy Scriptures to be written

for our learning. Grant that we may so hear them, read, mark,

learn, and take them to heart that, by the patience and comfort of

Your holy Word, we may embrace and ever hold fast the blessed

hope of everlasting life; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord,

who lives on reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now

and forever.

C Amen

Closing Hymn “Amazing Grace” LSB 744

1 Amazing grace—how sweet the sound—

That saved a wretch like me!

I once was lost but now am found,

Was blind but now I see!

2 The Lord has promised good to me,

His Word my hope secures;

He will my shield and portion be

As long as life endures.

3 Through many dangers, toils, and snares

I have already come;

His grace has brought me safe thus far,

His grace will lead me home.

4 Yes, when this flesh and heart shall fail

And mortal life shall cease,

Amazing grace shall then prevail

In heaven’s joy and peace.

5 When we’ve been there ten thousand years,

Bright shining as the sun,

We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise

Than when we’d first begun.

Blessing

L Let us bless the Lord.

C Thanks be to God.

P The almighty and merciful Lord, the Father, the Son, and the

Holy Spirit, bless and preserve you.

C Amen.
