Additional comments

What was really good about your care?

•Everybody here is always really caring, patient and helps as much as they can. •There is a really calm atmosphere which is particularly great because the

situation can be stressful.•I was treated as though my feelings were important and mattered.•My feelings were considered in depth by thoughtful and friendly staff.•No one was patronising me and everyone was very polite so I felt like •I could talk and say what was on my mind without being judged.•That we were listened to as a family as well as individually.•Suggestions have been made to solve problems we have had•The support they gave, not just for me but for my mum as well.

Was there anything you didn’t like or anything that needs improving?

•Time between appointments. Would have loved more sessions •The protocols of blockers. •Sometimes appointments were shorted and less in depth compared to others

however I felt all appointments were useful. •Should be allowed to prescribe cross sex hormones to over 16s regardless of

whether they have been on blockers.

•N=42 (18 parents and 22 young people)

•I think hormones/blockers should be given sooner and the course of blockers should be shorter or depend on the person rather than being a year for everyone.

Is there anything else you want to tell us about the service you received?

•We were always kept informed and respected. •We feel our child has been looked after and listened to and taken seriously.

Discussions were not rushed and were calm. Plain language was used. •This service reduced the self-harm attempts and has given my daughter a

space to talk. She feels that there are people caring about her.•The people: James and Laura are very easy to talk to and were very patient

with Eva. •The patience and understanding of people involved. •The consultant we see communicates well with all the other professionals.

involved in my sons care. We are always made to feel welcome, comfortable and that we are remembered between appointments.

•Seeing my child felt understood and listened to with respect to how he felt. Seeing his happiness grow stronger as he knew he was getting the help and understanding that he so needed.

•None judgemental, sensitive and able to compassionately hold the emotional distress expressed by parents and sensitive to my child without being directive or falsely certain.

•I felt that family opinions also counted and it wasn’t just about my child. •Consistent and concerned approach- like to have the same person each time. •Being able to be honest about my fears and worries and being understood.•1. My child was taken seriously from the outset. 2. I was asked about how I

was coping with my child’s condition, and felt that I was also supported as well as my child. 3. Travel costs reimbursed quickly and without any problem.
