1. Introduction1.1 Service Description

The Remote Streaming Media service provides dedicated audio for other APmax services. This audio can be used by other services when the call is placed on hold, transferred, parked, or added to an ad-hoc conference or even as a dedicated announcement. With this service, telephone companies can stream music of their choice, recorded message or Internet music to services, when callers are on hold. It allows customers to upload their own music selection in .mp3 or .wav format. Customers may also use this feature to play promotional ads for their products instead of playing music.

1.2 Applicability and LimitationsRemote Streaming Media service runs on APmax system. Operation of this service with radio Remote Streaming Media requires a T1 connection between APmax and the switch equipped with ISUP/SIP trunking. Other Remote Streaming Media sources do not need any trunk setup.

Remote Streaming Media service does not have any feature to stream on hold music over the phone. In order to use the on-hold music feature, additional client services such as Dedicated Announcements, Automatic Call Distributor, Conferencing, and/or ISUP Announcements services must be integrated.

Note: For more information regarding any of the supported services used with the Remote Streaming Media service, contact support for documentation requests.

The client services can select the stream name configured in the Remote Streaming Media service in order to enable on-hold music. With Dedicated and ISUP announcement services, the customer gets an additional option to select an announcements or stream name.

SHOUTcast Remote Streaming Media requires Internet connection. Internet audio stream can be obtained at:

The RemoteStreaming 3.0 package allows for 16 SHOUTcast streams, and requires AudioSubsystem 4.5.40.

This service requires APmax release 4.2 or greater.

1.2.1 Music Source Capacity

1.3 Sound FilesUploaded audio files are stored in separate directory in APmax. These files are standard .mp3 or .wav files; u-law compression at 8 KHZ sample rate is used for .wav files.

1.4 Benefits to the End UserRemote Streaming Media provides uninterrupted music user services. User services can use this music to indicate the caller that the call is still connected with on-hold music. Music lets the caller know that their call is waiting, not forgotten. With this service telephone companies can play the music of their choice or recorded message. Service providers may uploaded licensed music, recordings or record their own message in a file format compatible with APmax. Companies can even use this service to upload audio file to play promotional ads instead of playing music.

3.2 Service OperationThe sole function of this service is to provide dedicated streaming audio to other services. Services such as ACD, Conferencing, and ISUP Announcements may be used in conjunction with this service. The following sources are used to provide music:

1). APmax built-in music (Beethoven’s sonata)2). Audio File in .mp3 or .wav format3). Radio or CD player music via phone4). SHOUTcast Internet streaming mediaOnce the Remote Streaming Media stream is configured to use music from anyone or more of the available resources, services which are intended to use Remote Streaming Media may be provisioned to provide music by simply selecting the stream name. User services can manage and mix multiple streams to create one output stream.

The Remote Streaming Media service requires ISUP/SIP trunk group setup if radio or a CD player is used as the sound source. For SHOUTcast streaming audio, the APmax must have an Internet connection.

3.2.1 APmax Built-in MusicThe Remote Streaming Media service provides un-interrupted, built-in music as soon as the service stream is configured. This is the default music provided by APmax system and cannot be changed. Once a Remote Streaming Media stream is opened, service will play this built-in default music. As soon as audio from other resources get connected, the Remote Streaming Media service connects the audio from those external sources. If a configured Remote Streaming Media stream failed to provide music for some reason (SHOUTcast stream failed to stream audio due to Internet connection failure), built-in music will be played.

3.2.2 Audio From an Uploaded FileThe Remote Streaming Media service allows the customer to upload an audio file in .mp3 or .wav audio format. This uploaded audio file will be played by the service in an endless loop. Once configured, other user services can be connected with this file play audio by selecting the correct stream name. Default built-in music will be played if an uploaded file failed to play.

Note: The recommended volume level for any uploaded audio file is -20 dB.

3.2.3 DSP SetupIn order to stream SHOUTcast the service requires Port 4 of the APmax to be able to access the SHOUTcast server (Internet access). This access is outbound only so that there is no inbound routing needed.

3.2.4 Radio or CD player music via phone InterfaceOutside sources such as radio, a CD player, or an mp3 player may be used by the Remote Streaming Media service. Audio from these sources will be streamed by using a telephone. A telephone handset should be placed in front of the speaker in order to stream audio from these sources. ISUP/SIP trunk groups must be provisioned in the APmax system and in the switch for this type of Remote Streaming Media audio to be accessed and dedicated trunk groups must be assigned to Remote Streaming Media service. Trunk groups may not be shared with any other service. Once a call is placed and the voice channel is connected, the hand set should be placed in front of the audio speaker. Same audio may be connected to the mate unit by transferring the call internally within the APmax.

Note: If a call gets disconnected default music will be played.

3.2.5 SHOUTcast Streaming MediaSHOUTcast audio streaming can be configured by selecting the station from SHOUTcast website:

http://www.shoutcast.com/

The streaming Internet audio is decoded by the APmax using the MPEG library. Due to limited resources in APmax system, SHOUTcast Remote Streaming Media configuration is limited to 16 streams per system. If the service loses connection with SHOUTcast server, default music will be played till connection is re-established. APmax should have internet connection to use SHOUTcast Remote Streaming Media.

Note: In the event that the SHOUTcast stream goes away, the underlying process may generate log errors similar to those below. The APmax Watch Daemon will attempt to restart the process causing it to reconnect to the stream source. If it cannot connect to the stream then the local fallback Remote Streaming Media source on disk will be used. These error logs messages are to be expected

3.3 DataDuring installation of the service all announcement definitions required by the service are deployed to the APmax system.

3.4 Logsap_error.log. This log is used by the service to record unhandled errors or unexpected events. This log is shared by multiple features and services.

ap.log. This log is used by the system to record diagnostics or trace events that are being collected. This log is shared by multiple features and services. Generally, this log will only be reviewed when actively diagnosing a problem.

3.5 ProvisioningGeneric signaling type must be provisioned for this service. In addition, translations may require modifications in the switch to allow proper call routing.

4. Provisioning and Administration4.1 APmax UI

This section describes the APmax interface used to configure Remote Streaming Media audio streams.

To access the Remote Streaming Media configuration interface, right-click on the system’s icon in the Command Center window to invoke a popup menu, and select the System Configuration | Trunks | Announcement Configuration command (as illustrated in Figure 4-1). The name of the system being configured will be displayed at the top of the Announcement Configuration window (Figure 4-2).

The top of the Announcement Configuration window (see Figure 4-2) has tabs representing the APmax announcement types supported by the selected APmax system. Select the Remote Streaming Media tab to manage the Remote Streaming Media service settings.

The Remote Streaming Media tab is partitioned into the Phone tab (see Section 4.1.1), which is used to configure audio streams that come from a telephone call, the SHOUTcast tab (see Section 4.1.2), which is used to configured audio streams from the Internet, and the File tab (see Section 4.1.3).

4.1.1 Telephone Audio Stream ManagementThe Phone tab (see Figure 4-2) is used to manage the telephone-call-based audio streams that will be available to the Remote Streaming Media service.

To add a telephone-call-based audio stream, press the Add button at the bottom of the Address tab (Figure 4-2). An Add Remote Streaming Media window (see Figure 4-3) will be displayed.

Enter a value for each of the following fields in the Add Remote Streaming Media window and press the OK button to save the new entry.

Name Short description used to identify this audio stream in APmax user interfaces.

Description Detailed description of the audio stream.

Address The 7 or 10-digit phone number that is dialed to access the audio stream.

Note: The Address field must always be popluated with either a valid DN that has previously been setup in the switch that will acces the audio stream or, if a .wav file is being streamed, the administrator must enter 000-000-0000 in the Address field.

WAV File The .wav audio file that will be played in the event the call to the Address is dropped. This setting is optional and will revert to the “APmax Default” on hold announcement if a .wav file is not specified.

To select a .wav file, press the folder button next to this field to open a standard file selection window. Use the file selection window to locate and select the .wav audio file, and press the Open button. The path to the selected file will be displayed in the WAV File field.

To remove an audio stream, select the stream in the Address tab list and press the Delete button below the list.

4.1.2 Internet Audio Stream ManagementThe SHOUTcast tab (see Figure 4-4) is used to manage the Internet audio streams that will be available to the Remote Streaming Media service.

To add an Internet audio stream, press the Add button at the bottom of the SHOUTcast tab. An Add Remote Streaming Media window (see Figure 4-5) will be displayed.

To remove an Internet audio stream, select the stream in the SHOUTcast tab list and press the Delete button below the list.

4.1.3 Audio .wav File StreamThe File tab allows the administrator to use a .wav file for theRemote Streaming Media audio source (see Figure 4-6).

To add a .wav file audio source, press the Add button at the bottom of the File tab. An Add Remote Streaming Media window (see Figure 4-7) will be displayed.

URL The path to the Internet audio stream that will be played.

When using a SHOUTcast URL, right-click the downloand button from the desired station. Select “Save Link As...” and enter location and filename for the .pls file. Once downloaded, open the .pls file in a text editor. Use the desired stream URL from the text file.
