Welcome to the Annual NSW ANZCA ASA Sydney Conference for 2016. As anaesthetists we are better than any other craft group at planning ahead and in doing so improving our patient outcomes.

We’ve invited Dr Andrew Heard from Royal Perth Hospital, one of the best planners in airway management, to present the results of his studies into planning the extubation of the patient that was difficult to intubate and run his widely acclaimed CICO workshop. Dr Roger Traill, now a regular user of transnasal humidified rapid-insufflation ventilatory exchange (THRIVE), will run workshops and guide delegates through the practical use and set-up of the system. In looking to optimise our patients preoperatively, we have invited Dr Katherine Tonks to walk us through the plethora of new hypoglycaemic agents and how to manage these preoperatively, and Dr Patrick Coleman makes managing preoperative anaemia easy.

We have looked to provide workshops to enable delegates to fulfil emergency College CPD requirements for emergency responses, and problem based learning discussions to help you plan pain management.

At the end of the day we are introducing a new format of case discussion called ‘Case Interactive’ where a panel of our invited speakers and the audience will plan the management of some interesting patients. We promise you and stimulating and thoughtful day and guarantee we will change your practice.

You are welcome to attend all of the talks throughout the day. For the breakouts you can select one PBLD or workshop to attend (except the Registrar poster presentation session and prize which is open to all delegates)
