Service Bulletin: Boot up Failure

Symptom: Computer will not boot up when first installing the Makoto Arena

Rarely, when first installing a Makoto Arena, the computer may fail to boot properly and your screen will say “NO INPUT SIGNAL”. First confirm the following are ALL occurring:

1. The arena powers up and the lights on all three towers illuminate

2. The computer begins to start, the green LED light below the right side of the screen illuminates and then, after about 5 seconds, turns red.

3. The fan comes on momentarily This is probably caused by the Bios settings not configured with the motherboard properly. If this is the case, the following procedure may need to be performed once. The problem should not occur again after this procedure.

Turn the power off. Unplug the Makoto Arena from the power source. Remove the 4 screens on front face of the computer housing using the TORX 27 safety tip in your distributor service support kit.

CAREFULLY set the monitor and the monitor housing to the side – resting in a manner not to stretch the cables connecting the computer to the monitor.

Warning! The next several steps involve the potential of damaging the computer with Electro-Static Discharge (ESD) Be certain that you are well grounded and do not “shock” the

computer electronics! This will permanently damage your Makoto Arena!

Look at the motherboard and identify the “pin header” on the lower left side on the board.

You will observe that this header has 9 pins – 5 on the right side and 4 on the left side. 8 of the pins are color-coded in pairs. – red, blue, green and yellow.

Indentify the pin pair that is color-coded red. They will be the two upper pins on the column of 4 on the left side You are going to “short” these pins when the computer is powered up.

Have a small metallic object that will contact both of these pins simultaneously. A small flat-bladed screwdriver works well. Be certain that you will be contacting only these two pins and no other! Follow this procedure:

1. Plug in the Makoto arena to the main power supply

2. Turn the power “on” by activating the main power switch on the computer box.

3. Within 5 seconds of turning the power on, touch the two red pins on the pins header, creating an electrical “short” between those two pins.

4. Hear the fan “power up” 5. Remove the screwdriver blade immediately

from the pins.

Carefully place the monitor and monitor housing back on top of the computer box. Place two of the screws in “finger tight” to hold the monitor in position while you confirm that the Makoto Arena is now functioning properly. The computer should be booting and the Makoto software should load shortly.

Final Check:

1. Log in 2. Shut the system down properly 3. Turn off the power 4. Wait at least 5 seconds 5. Turn the power on 6. Your Makoto Arena should start up properly

at this time. 7. Secure the four safety screws in the top

cover of your Makoto Arena computer housing.
