ANNOUNCEMENTS
29 DECEMBER 2019 3 THE HOLY FAMILY OF JESUS, MARY, AND JOSEPH
The Musings of Our Pastor
Are you ready to cross the threshold into the brand new year of 2020? In my humble opinion, the 12 months of 2019 came and went with a bit of swiftness, and that is surely the case with the whole first quarter of the 21st Cen-tury as well! Crossing the threshold into something new can be both exciting and maybe even just bit unsettling for us for a variety of reasons. No doubt, there are aspects or experiences or developments associated with 2019 that we gladly leave behind as we cross the threshold into the New Year of 2020. By the same token, we cannot quite per-ceive with absolute clarity or certainty what may be lurking on the other side of the threshold of 2020, so we may move forward into the New Year with guarded enthusiasm or ea-gerness!
One thing we do know about 2020 is that June 29th is slated as the date for the "standing up" of the 27 new pas-torates throughout the Diocese of Lafayette, which will bring about a restructuring of the "Local Church" for the purpose of utilizing a diminishing number of priests more effectively, and for the purpose of creating parish communi-ties of faith that are truly vibrant and full of greater vitali-ty. Hence, Holy Trinity Parish will become part of a pastor-ate consisting also of Portland, Winchester and Union City. Based on a timetable shared by Bishop Doherty in September with the clergy of the diocese and leadership teams from each of the parishes, the Pastors for the new pastorates are to be named by the end of March, in order to allow time for the Pastorate Leadership Team and the new Pastor to draft a 3-year plan for the pastorate and get things "up & running" on July 1, 2020.
Crossing the threshold into 2020, mindful of these signifi-cant developments, will necessarily bring some adjust-ments, changes, new realities our way both as individuals or families, and as one community of faith, Holy Trinity Par-ish. Most definitely, some unsettledness and consterna-tion, or even "grief", may bubble up from within us, which is understandable and often typical in the wake of significant chances impacting our lives. By the special graces of the Holy Spirit, though, maybe qualities of openness, flexibility, cooperation/collaboration, etc., at work within us (individually or collectively) might create some wonderful pathways to growth and new life through this restructuring process. Many of us have learned from our own experienc-es that flexibility and adaptability can prove to be among our greatest assets in the quest for personal growth as we travel the roads of life and confront inevitable changes of one kind or another. We can effectively stifle the workings of the Holy Spirit, if rigidity, complacency or "being too set in our ways" characterize our response to these develop-ments in 2020.
May you and your family have a Blessed New Year that is splashed with many signs of God's loving care each and
every day. God bless you. —Fr. Ken
