Other News: "On behalf of the Oklahoma Blood Institute Executive Team, and patients all across Oklahoma, we thank you for being an example to your community of what can happen when good people come together to do great things. While there are many ways to support your friends and neighbors, few have the impact to provide hope, healing, and comfort like the selfless act of giving blood. I’m sure many of your donors have their own “reason for giving” but we’d like to share one of our very heartfelt thank-you messages from a local patient who’s here today thanks to community partners like you. Please share our appreciation and this tale of gratitude with all of your amazing donors who help make stories like this possible. I understand that you are the top collector for religious groups in our entire system and that you always host drives around high-need times. I also understand you drew 51 donors on a goal of 44, achieving 116%. These extra units are truly needed over the summer, and we appreciate your commitment." ~Jeannie Gardner, Vice President, OBI Donor Services QUESTIONS FOR DISCUSSION AT HOME OR IN QGROUP 1. Not Even One Hundred Different WalmartsDriving my younger brother to Texas after completing the exhausting week that is Serve OKC, I couldn’t help but relay scores of hilarious stories from the past summer. I vividly remember the first day of my youth internship when Brian asked Grayson and me to stand on stage in front of a room filled with teenagers. In addition to feeling intimidated by the size of the group, I felt an obligation to get to know every face smiling back at me that morning. I decided I would be perfect. But I would soon learn that nothing about youth ministry is perfect. It takes positive prayer, hard work, and flexibility to be a youth ministry intern. I didn’t expect to go to four different Walmarts in a day when I took this job. But I would have to go to 100 different Walmarts in order to obtain another experience like I did this summer. I learned more from the students here than I could ever hope to teach them. I gained immense respect for all youth ministers and the intense behind-the-scenes work they do to ensure that every detail exceeds expectations. I saw God through the little moments of laughter with other interns and big moments of celebration through baptism. I could write about my experiences in places like Honduras and Memphis all day, but the greatest lesson I learned this summer is this: love is everything. This summer, love brought amazing new friendships with students and the youth ministry team. Love brought encouragement to people all over the world through teenagers who go to church right here at Memorial Road. Love is why I will never forget the memories I made and the people I met this summer. ~Elise Miller
