Isaiah 49:13-16 — Like a Nursing Child

13 Sing for joy, O heavens, and exult, O earth; break forth, O mountains, into singing! For the Lord has comforted his people and will have compassion on his afflicted. 14 But Zion said, “The Lord has forsaken me; my Lord has forgotten me.” 15 “Can a woman forget her nursing child, that she should have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget, yet I will not forget you. 16 Behold, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are continually before me.

L: The Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God.

II Timothy 1:3-14 — A Sincere Faith

3 I thank God whom I serve, as did my ancestors, with a clear conscience, as I remember you constantly in my prayers night and day. 4 As I remember your tears, I long to see you, that I may be filled with joy. 5 I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well. 6 For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, 7 for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. 8 Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord, nor of me his prisoner, but share in suffering for the gospel by the power of God, 9 who saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus be-fore the ages began, 10 and which now has been manifested through the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel, 11 for which I was appointed a preacher and apostle and teacher, 12 which is why I suffer as I do. But I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed, and I am convinced that he is able to guard until that day what has been entrusted to me. 13 Follow the pattern of the sound words that you have heard from me, in the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. 14 By the Holy Spirit who dwells within us, guard the good deposit entrusted to you.

L: The Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God.

Gospel Reading: Luke 13:31-35

L: The Holy Gospel according to St. Luke the 13th. Chapter. C: Glory to you, O Lord.

31 At that time some Pharisees came to Jesus and said to him, “Leave this place and go somewhere else. Herod wants to kill you.” 32 He replied, “Go tell that fox, ‘I will keep on driving out demons and healing people today and tomorrow, and on the third day I will reach my goal.’ 33 In any case, I must press on today and tomorrow and the next day—for surely no prophet can die outside Jerusalem! 34 “Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing. 35 Look, your house is left to you desolate. I tell you, you will not see me again until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.’”

L: The Gospel of the Lord. C: Praise to you, O Christ. Dinners for 6-8: Members of Emmanuel are invited to enjoy mealtime fellowship & conversation regarding the Missional Growth of our congregation. “Why are we here and where is God taking us?” Our best years are always ahead of us! Signup Sheets are posted in the Gathering Space. Please participate!

Invitation from: Dave Hammond, Oasis Church

Dear Emmanuel Lutheran, There are many building needs at Oasis & I’ve been working with the Oasis congregation to determine the best days we can bring people together to serve. Based on dates they have given me, we have put together some work weeks during this summer. They are (Mondays-Fridays):

May 21-25, repair, prep, and paint walls in church basement. June 25-29, building visual fence around dumpster, repair some facial things on the building exterior including some flashing, trim, grounds work, etc. August 13-17, replacing windows in fellowship hall.

We’d like to invite our sister churches (Emmanuel Lutheran & Iglesia Cristiana Nueva Jerusalem) to join us as we work together to repair our building & make it more beautiful. Our plan is to work from 8 a.m. until as late as 8 p.m. on these dates. Please let your congregations know about this need. If you have any questions, please call me at 507-271-4726 or email me at [email protected].

“You Formed Us in Your Image, Lord” (To the tune of "What Child Is This?"—LBW #40)

Verse 1: You formed us in your image, Lord; You call us your own children. In you, each one is loved, adored—Unique among the millions. Bless, Lord, the families Who know the joy: Christ claims and frees! Bless, too, the ones who weep, Forgetting that you love them.

Verse 2: You made our homes to honor you With love the strong foundation. In serving God & neighbor too, We find our life's vocation. Bless families large and small Who love and serve you when you call. Bless, too, the ones who fear—Whose trust & love are shattered.

Verse 3: Christ loved and honored family, Yet showed us what is greater. He taught a higher loyalty, To God our good Creator. Bless, Lord, the ones who long To build up homes where faith is strong. Bless children, women, men Who risk to serve your kingdom.

Verse 4: In home and church our faith is formed; We learn your love and caring. From here we're called to face the storm, Your love and justice bearing. Each day your Spirit sends! We go to strangers, neighbors, friends. Peace, mercy, joy we bring, To all your human family.

FAITH OF OUR FATHERS, Alternate words LBW #500

Verse 1: Faith of our fathers, living still in spite of dungeon, fire, and sword. Oh, how our hearts beat high with joy whene'er we hear that glorious word. Faith of our fathers, holy faith, we will be true to you till death. Verse 2: Faith of our mothers, daring faith, your work for Christ is love revealed, spreading God's word from pole to pole, making love known and freedom real. Faith of our mothers, holy faith, we will be true to you till death. Verse 3: Faith of our sisters, brothers too, who still must bear oppression's might, raising on high, in prisons dark, the cross of Christ still burning bright. Faith for today, O living faith, we will be true to you till death. Verse 4: Faith born of God, oh, call us yet, bind us with all who follow you, sharing the struggle of your cross until the world is made anew. Faith born of God, O living faith, we will be true to you till death.

As Man & Woman We Were Made Tune of “My Hope Is Built on Nothing Less”

LBW #294

Verse 1: As man and woman we were made That love be found and life begun, So praise the Lord Who made us two, And praise the Lord when two are one; Praise for the love that comes to life Through child or parent, husband, wife. Verse 2: Now Jesus lived and gave His love To make our life and loving new; So celebrate with Him today And drink the joy He offers you; That makes the simple moment shine And changes water into wine. Verse 3: And Jesus died to live again, So praise the love that, come what may, Can bring the dawn and clear the skies, And waits to wipe all tears away; And let us hope for what shall be, Believing where we cannot see. Verse 4: Then spread the table, clear the hall, And celebrate till day is done; Let peace go deep between us all And joy be shared by everyone; Laugh and make merry with your friends, And praise the love that never ends!
