A brand new attraction is being trialled this summer for Phillip Island. Designed to give Phillip Island a real point of difference from other holiday locations, this attraction is targeting visitors and the local community alike and, is absolutely free!

The Island Explorer is a 55 seat bus that will operate seven days a week from 28th December through until mid March 2016 visiting major attractions and locations around San Remo and the Island.

It’s an initiative developed by Phillip Island Nature Parks, Bass Coast Shire Council, Destination Phillip Island and Phillip Island RSL in a bid to reduce the number

of vehicles on our roads over the peak season and to offer an alternative to beach goers, who can leave their vehicle at home or at two Park and Ride locations.Visitors and locals can drop their car at the Phillip Island RSL and catch the 10.04 bus and sit back as the Island Explorer takes you on a round trip of Phillip Island and San Remo stopping at most of the major attractions and be back for lunch by noon...or for the savvy beach goers, take the 10am Island Explorer from Cowes to Smiths Beach for a morning of swimming or rockpooling and then at 12.40, head to Newhaven/San Remo for lunch and catch the 15.10pm bus to be back in Cowes for dinner.

Supporting attractions and partners have collaborated to provide all passengers with a list of special offers exclusive to coach users. Everyone is invited to provide feedback which will be collated and used for future funding of this pilot project.

Timetables are available from: • Visitor Information Centres, Cowes and Newhaven; • Penguin Parade• The Nobbies• Phillip Island RSL• The Koala Conservation Centre • Grand Prix Circuit• Rhyll Trout Farm• A Maze’N Things• Churchill Island• Chocolate Factory• The Big Wave• Silverwater Resort

Up close and personal with Diana Trask A very special performance was held on 6th October with Australian country singer who made “Oh Boy” famous back in the 60’s – Diana Trask. This event came as a result of a conversation with member, Kaye Cannin who talked the Phillip Island RSL into conducting a

special one off lunch time concert. “The Club was sceptical but I knew I could get the numbers, so I rounded up all the regional Probus groups and within a month, I’d sold 200 tickets….the Club was ecstatic and literally ate their words” said Kaye. The Committee, Management and Staff from Phillip Island RSL express their sincere thanks and gratitude to Kaye for this outstanding outcome!

On behalf of Phillip Island RSL, a big thank you to the 115 Service members who took the time to complete our first Service members survey during October.

It was pleasing to see that awareness levels of our main Welfare services was fairly high:Medical transport 67%Men’s Shed 67%Morning Melodies 60%

The services that had low awareness included:Pension advice, Islander’s Day Club, Wheel chair and scooter hire and Service Members Eat Free (specific times of the year).

Surprisingly, only 20% of Service members access our Welfare services. 50% are aware of our Welfare Co-ordinator.

Contact Annie Brookes during business hours for more information regarding these Welfare activities.

Note: The PIRSL Welfare vehicles will have very limited services over the Christmas and New Year period (23rd December to 13th January). Contact Annie Brookes for assistance if required.
