YOUR MATERNITY SHAPEBY T R IMESTER

1st 2nd 3rd

1 S T T R I M E S T E R

The first trimester can be tricky in many ways. You are not really showing yet but you might experience some discomfort (tiredness, nausea...) Opt for comfortable pieces, loose tops and some bright colours to brighten up

your complexion. If your trousers are getting too tight, you might want to invest in a pair of maternity jeans or trousers for work, as they’ll be the first pieces of your wardrobe you won’t fit into, and you’ll be wearing

them for your 3 trimesters and beyond.

2 N D T R I M E S T E R

This is when it’s really fun to be pregnant, you’re finally showing and you feel great. Dresses are perfect for these months as they flatter your figure and are an ideal go-to outfit you can dress up or down. Be sure to make the most of your curves with pieces that show off your cleavage and your

beautiful growing bump.

3 R D T R I M E S T E R

Think of the pieces you buy now as an investment. If you’re thinking of nursing, keep that in mind when shopping for tops. You might also want to invest in some maternity lingerie as your bra size is likely to change. If you are looking to elongate your silhouette during your last trimester, go

for maxi dresses and layering pieces. You can also experiment with accessories and create more shape and movement with belts and scarves.

CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR PREGNANCY!

Congratulations on your pregnancy! At Seraphine we are passionate about enabling you to be stylish during pregnancy

and this guide is designed to help you embrace your new shape, celebrate it, and look fabulous all the way through your 9 months and beyond. Past the first trimester you won’t be able to continue

wearing your regular wardrobe, so we are here to help you choose key pieces for your new maternity wardrobe, and show

you how to make the most of them.

When choosing styles the most important thing to remember fashion-wise is that you don’t have to change your own style just because you’re pregnant. Pregnancy causes all sorts of hormonal and figure changes, but at Seraphine we believe that you should keep your fashion identity and we design clothes that you would

love and want to wear even if you were not pregnant. By emphasising your new waist, the empire line, our designs give you a flattering silhouette and we make sure they fit your growing bust and bump perfectly. We also work very hard to ensure that

our clothes are supremely comfortable, a result of the high quality of our fabrics and an ingenious cut.

We hope this guide will help you choose the right maternity essentials for each trimester and feel confident and beautiful

throughout the amazing journey of motherhood.

Don’t put away your belts just yet as they’re still a great way to accessorize your look

during pregnancy. Wearing a belt over your outfit, just below your bra strap, will create structure and highlight both your bump and your bust. They’ll be perfect to create shape

during the later stage of pregnancy. You can also place it under your bump

to draw attention to your pins!

Invest in maternity bras for your second trimester, they will take you right through the

end of your pregnancy as they are designed to adapt to your changing cup size. They are so

comfortable and give a great shape.

We design our range with great care to support your growing bust and flatter your new curves.

The result is so much better than just trying to go for a larger size of regular swimwear. Whether you’re going for a swim or lounging by the pool

we have a style for any occasion.

With the extra weight of your baby, you’ll soon find that you need to put your heels back in your wardrobe and find flat options. However, be aware that totally flat shoes are not good for your posture and can put strain on your back just as much as heels. The ideal heel is 2 to 4 cm and that is why we

highly recommend the ShoeTherapy range that’s been designed especially to alleviate back and joint pain with its supportive heel and patented

mechanism to remove the strain of walking. It’s the first medically proven shoe recommended for pregnant women and they come in a wide fashionable

range of ballerinas and loafers. They’re so cute and comfortable you‘ll find yourself wearing them well beyond your pregnancy.

A : Yes stick to your “normal” size, the fabric is stretchy and designed to evolve with your pregnancy curves. If your regular jeans are low-cut, then you’ll probably prefer below the bump band, which sits comfortably under your stomach as it grows. If you

prefer high wasted jeans, then opt for above the bump jersey band. You’ll keep a similar level of support around the waist & stomach. As there is more support in the stomach

area, they are also ideal for multiple pregnancies.

Q : H O W D O I C H O O S E T H E P E R F E C T F I T ?

A : Make note of cuts, fits, washes and rises you tend to prefer. Decide whether you will be more comfortable with changes to your style during pregnancy. If you loved skinny jeans

before you were pregnant, there is no reason to change the fit. Pregnancy skinny jeans are very stretchy, making them super comfortable for your pregnant belly. If you want to give your ankles a bit of “breathing space” during your pregnancy, slim jeans are a little looser through the leg and won’t hug your ankles, you can also opt for cropped jeans. Boot-cut jeans are a

flattering option for a pear shape body type and creates a flattering leg shape.

Q : C A N I E X P E R I M E N T W I T H C O L O U R S ?

A : Yes, there are so many options you’ll wonder how you ever got buy with just blue denim. Here are some suggestions we like...

For those looking for a splash of colour, try cobalt to match with a black, white

or stripy top. Everyone looks confident in coral! Wear with a black, grey, white or even beige top. Balance the blue hues of our sea mist style with natural colours like

tops in taupe and stone shades.

Chic maternity dresses work to trim and skim over your baby bump. When selecting your maternity dress consider that the style needs to be versatile so that you can dress it for many different occasions.

A : In the first trimester when your bump is not defined, loose fits are ideal, allowing room for growth and some time for your bump to take shape. In the second trimester you can now show off your bump with more fitted dresses

like our shift dress (see opposite page).

Q : H O W C A N I M A K E T H E M O S T O F M Y N E W Y U M M Y M U M M Y C U R V E S ?

A : Flaunt your bump and gorgeous new curves in chic dresses. A feminine V-neckline emphasises your new

cleavage and highlights your bump to perfection. If you are conscious of your hips an A-line skirt works great to

disguise extra weight. Opt for a length just above the knee which is the most flattering line for your silhouette. Many

pregnant women don’t like showing off their upper arms so a butterfly sleeve or cap sleeve provides a flattering cover.

Q : I W O U L D L I K E T O E L O N G AT E M Y S I L H O U E T T E . H O W D O I D O T H I S ?

A : Maxi dresses will not only provide you with comfort, but are the best styles to flatter you when

your bump is at its largest. You crave comfort and soft fabrics and the maxi length will be the most flattering, with its elongated silhouette. They’re the best option

and a trend that LA celebs like Jessica Alba and Angelina Jolie have previously adopted.

A : Seraphine offers stylish multi-functional tops that have been designed with

breastfeeding in mind, making them great investment pieces. Must haves for your

maternity wardrobe, you can wear them throughout your trimesters and they’ll effortlessly transition into your nursing

wardrobe. Select from a range of fashionable styles that allow easy access

for discreet breastfeeding.

A : It’s natural to want to stick to dark colours but there’s no need to be a pregnant wallflower! Add

a splash of colour to your style and embrace bright block colours and pretty prints for a stand out look. With pieces in this season’s trendy coral hue, polka dot prints and flattering florals, you need not stick to black. The shape of the styles flatter your figure

while the colours and prints ensure all eyes on you.

Beryl Panel Tie Tunic

Q : H O W U S E F U L A R E T U N I C S ?

A : The tunic is a piece of must-have maternity wear that makes getting through those nine

months a little easier. Perfect for day, time you can wear over a pair of skinny jeans or leggings

for maximum comfort. It is a great alternative to the t-shirt and jeans look. They are dressier than your average shirt, but effortless and take minimal time to style. You can easily transform

your look from day to night with a blazer jacket, accessories and a pair of heels.

Q : W H I C H FA B R I C S H O U L D I G O F O R ?

A : Since your body temperature tends to go up when you’re pregnant, natural fabrics are best.

Our tops are either made of cotton or viscose which is a natural breathable fibre made from wood pulp. For vests we highly recommend our unique cotton and bamboo jersey blend which offers the unique

properties of being anti bacterial and wicks moisture faster than any other fabric. We add a little elastane

for the perfect stretch enabling your tops to fit all the way to nine months and never get out of shape.

Pure synthetics fabrics such as polyester are not allowing your skin to breathe and can make you feel

sticky and itchy - you’re breathing for two now!

A : Layering is key during pregnancy as it allows you to mix and match pieces. Match a knitwear with a tunic or a dress and highlight your empire

line with a belt for some definition. Layering elongates your silhouette and long length

cardigans are very good to disguise lumps and bumps. Think about creating colour contrast between the layers for a structured shape.

skin, making it perfect for pregnancy.
