Ser and Estar both mean “to be’’.Ser - Used
● origin of a person or thing (el origen)
● identification (la identificación)
● characteristics (las characteristics)
● telling time (la hora) and date (la fecha)
● time and place of an event (un evento)
● with the preposition “de”
Estar - Used
● location of a person or thing (la localizacion)
● conditions (las condiciones)
● impressions or opinions (las opiniones)
Las Formas-These forms are used depending on the subject pronoun

Comparar Condiciones y Características
A condition is temporary, it’s happening at the present moment (estar). Whereas a characteristic is more
permanent (ser).
Condition Examples: Characteristics Examples: Maria está cansada. Yo soy muy alta. Ellos están fuerte. Tu eres delgado y rápido.

A location is where something is or happening at the present moment (estar). An origin is permanent, it cannot
change (ser).

La Hora y La Fecha (ser)-Describing a specific time or a certain date
Hoy es el 4 de octubre. Es la tres de la tarde. Son las cinco de la manana. Es la medianoche.
Un evento (ser)-A specific or planned thing that happens
La fiesta es en mi escuela. Los eventos son en la parque. Mi graduación es en la edificó.

La Preposición “de” (ser) -Possession of object or material
El silla es de mi hermana.Es escritorio es de madera.Ese pluma es de mio. La hermano de mi padre es mi tio.
