Hintertux forse conosciuta principalmente per la sua bellezza e la qualit del park, ma nella location non mancano anche spot freeride. Qui nessun pendio vertiginoso, nes-sun landing verticale o pillow da far esplodere, ma Tom in mezzo a tutta questa neve vergine ci stava proprio bene! Unico problema le imprecazioni per il ritorno tutto in flat!

Hintertux is probably well known for its beauty and its snowpark quality, but the loca-tion is not lacking of freeride spots too. There was no dizzying incline, no vertical lan-ding or pillow to explode here in this picture, but Tom was really fitting well in all this virgin powder! Only little problem.. the imprecations because of the flat way back!

A volte ci vengono delle idee un po strane. Dopo aver costruito un super kicker che sparava dentro un landing in-finito, eravamo molto stanchi, quindi abbiamo deciso di fare camping proprio vicino allo spot. Oggi vi posso dire che stata unesperienza incredibile, meglio di un hotel a 5 stelle, se amate il silenzio, la natura e lo snowboard

Appena poco dopo aver fatto fare a Levi una mega slashata dentro almeno un metro di pura neve vergine, mi giro alla mia destra e vedo un altro natural spot proprio vicino a me. Non so dove ho trovato la forza per convincere Levi a risalire per portare a casa un altro

epico ed indimenticabile shot! Perdonamima ne valsa la pena!

Right after Ive asked Levi to do an enormous slash inside at least one meter of fresh virgin powder Ive turned my head and spotted another natural spot right next to me. Ive no idea how Ive managed to convince Levi to hike up in order to bring home another epic and

unforgettable shot! Forgive me... but it was definitely worth it!

Il sorriso alla base del divertimento. Chimicamente parlando, alla base del benessere da cui pu originarsi un sorriso c il rilascio di endorfine. Molti di voi sanno gi che fiume di endorfine viene rila-sciato quando si affonda nel powder e si fa una slashata, sollevando uno spruzzo di neve con faceshot. In quei momenti si prova quella dolce sensazione di smarrimento, ci si sente come persi a galleggia-re sulle nuvole; in coda a tutto ci probabilmente ci sar un sorriso. Per i puristi come me, adesso che lo snowboard tornato alla sua vera dimensione, meno estrogenata ma sicuramente pi vera e fat-ta di gente che rimasta o comincia per vera passione, come una seconda rinascita. Ora che lItalia comincia a sfornare con costanza atleti di un certo calibro, che si fanno vedere e rispettare allestero, adesso che ogni stazione a di media uno snowpark, nel quale entri e vedi un livello medio tutto sommato incoraggiante, adesso che lo snowboard ha sviluppato un suo lato maturo con il movimento alpi-nistico della split, arrivato il momento di gettare le fondamenta per una crescita costante e definitiva. LIspo 2015, che molti temevano sarebbe stata ledizione pi triste degli ultimi 20 anni, ha invece dato al contrario segnali positivi: molte company indipendenti stanno ri-cevendo crescente attenzione, gli operatori del settore continuano ad investire in attesa che questa dannata crisi economica finisca, tutti mossi da un vero spirito di cooperazione in nome dello snow-boarding. Ma la cosa da tenere sempre a mente e che non deve essere mai pi persa di vista, che il sorriso alla base dello snowboarding.

Smile is at the basis of fun. Chemically speaking, at the ba-sis of well-being from which can generate a smile theres the release of endorphins. Most of us know that a bunch on endorphins get released when we sink in powder and make some slashes, lifting up sprays of snow on our faces. In the-se moments you feel that sweet sensation of loss, you feel like being lost floating in the clouds; in the rear of all this theres probably a smile. For the purists like me, now that snowboarding is back to its real dimension, more real and made of people that start for real passion, its like a second birth. Now that Italy started popping out athletes of a certain caliber, known and respected abroad too; now that every re-sort has at least a snowpark where you can find a decent level which is encouraging all in all; now that snowboarding has developed a mature side for the alpine activities with the splitboard; now its time to lay the foundation for a constant growth of this sport. The Ispo 2015, that everyone thought it would have been the saddest edition of the past 20 years, turned to be an edition full of positive vibes: many indepen-dent companies are receiving much more interest, the sector operators keep on investing waiting for the end of this damn economy crisis, everyone being joined by a real cooperati-ve spirit in the name of snowboarding. But what has to be borne in mind is that smile is at the basis of snowboarding.

Stavamo girovagando per il Piemonte, in Italia, con la Absinthe

Crew, filmando linee su pillow sul lato della strada quel giorno.

Stava buttando gi neve fin dallalba, fiocchi della grandezza di

una moneta da 2, per ore e ore, rendendo la giornata un po

complicata per me e il filmer. I vestiti erano istantaneamen-

te pieni di neve e si bagnavano subito. Penso sarebbe stato pi

intelligente prendersi un giorno libero, ma amo talmente tan-

to shootare durante una tempesta che ero talmente gasato

da non poter riuscire e combinare qualcosa. Ho scattato qual-

che ritratto con la mia prima macchina fotografica in assoluto,

la Nikon FM2, carica di un BW TMax 400ISO, ma poi la lasciai

subito a terra per prendere unaltra fotocamera dal mio zaino

e shootare delle run sui pillow qualche metro pi in basso. In

quel momento mi dimenticai della fotocamera a terra e quando

tornai, tipo 5 minuti pi tardi, era quasi sparita, quasi ricoperta

da uno strato di neve fresca. La fotocamera praticamente in-

distruttibile quindi non ero pi di tanto preoccupato, in quan-

do allinterno tutto manuale, non c nulla di elettronico e mi

sono preso tutto il tempo necessario per shootarla l sdraiata.

We were wandering in Piemonte, I taly, with Absinthe crew,

shooting pil low l ines on the side of the road this day. I t was

puking snow since the dusk, the size of a 2 coin, for hours

and hours, making the day a bit complicated for the f i lmer

and me. The gear was instantaneously ful l of snow and wet

real ly quick. I guess it would have been smarter to take a

day off , BUT I love so much shooting in a storm that I was

anyway too stoked to go out and make something happen.

I shot couple portraits with my first camera ever, this

NIKON FM2, loaded with a BW TMax 400ISO, but then I

just put i t quickly on the ground to get another came-

ra from my bag and shoot a pil low action couple me-

ters further down. In the moment I just forgot about

the camera on the ground and when I came back, so-

mething l ike 5minutes aftewards, i t was almost al l

gone, al l recovered by this fresh snow layer. The came-

ra is anyway undestrutable so I was not real ly concer-

ned, since everything is al l manual inside, there is no

electronic and I took my time to shoot it laying there.

NOVIT PI IMPORTANTI DELLA NUOVA COLLEZIONE DI NITRO? Come ogni anno Nitro propone molte moltissime novit. Da sempre Nitro

unazienda molto focalizzata sullinnovazione tecnica finalizzata a mas-

simizzare le performance ed aumentare il pi possibile il semplice pia-

cere di fare snowboard. Se devo indicare dei prodotti specifici, anche se

mi vien difficile scegliere, direi: Team Binding, con ammortizzazione

Air connector rinforzati da cavetti in acciaio, completamente regolabi-

le con due sole viti oltre a moltissime altre caratteristiche. Stessa cosa

per scarponi Team, un vero concentrato di tecnologia, performance e

comfort: vi do solo un consiglio andate in un punto vendita Nitro ed

infilateci dentro i piedi! Come tavola mi piace parlare della Bad Seeds,

ulteriormente rifinita e migliorata dalla scorsa stagione una vera bom-

ba - un rapporto manovrabilit - pop - tenuta in curva difficilmente ri-

scontrabile in altre tavole !

THE MOST IMPORTANT INNOVATIONS OF THE NEW NITRO COL-LECTION? As every year Nitro introduces many innovations. Since fo-rever Nitro is a company focused on technical innovations finalized on

maximizing the performance and to increase the simple pleasure to

go snowboarding as much as possible. If I have to recommend some

specific products, even if its hard to choose, Id say: Team Binding, with

Air Connector amortization reinforced by steel leads, completely adju-

stable with two bolts only besides many other characteristics. Same is

for the Team boots, a great mixture of technology, performance and

comfort: Ill suggest you to go to a Nitro store and try them out! About

the boards, I like talking about the Bad Seeds, well-refined and enhan-

ced than last season, its a real bomb a great connection with manoe-

uvrability, pop and endurance on the curves which is not easily spotted

on other boards!

SU QUALE ASPETTO HA PUNTATO MAGGIORMENTE NITRO PER LA PROSSIMA STAGIONE? Dire che laspetto su cui punta Nitro da un paio di stagioni, sottolineato dallo slogan ufficiale Built for Good Times

amplificare il pi possibile il lato fun dello snowboarding, indipen-

dentemente dal terreno di gioco: questo a livello di filosofia del brand.

Tecnicamente parlando questattitudine si concretizza con tavole sem-

pre pi performanti (come la Sven Thorgren o la Blacklight) e dal rap-

porto sforzo tecnico-piacere di surfata sempre migliore (come la Diablo,

la Slash o la Good Times)

NOVIT? A livello team Nitro continua a spingere con una crew in con-tinua evoluzione e assolutamente eclettica: si va dai decani, ormai vere

figure di riferimento nel modo dello snowboard come Eero Ettala, Bryan

Fox, Austin Smith, Markus Keller ai nuovi talenti come Sven Thorgren

(una vera macchina da contest) o Sam Taxwood (che avr la sua prima

parte per Videograss la prossima stagione) oppure ancora newcomers

destinati a diventare dei rider di riferimento come Marcus Kleveland, ed

in Italia con la nostra punta di diamante Marco Grigis.

IL TUO SET-UP? Tavola Diablo 160.6, attacchi Zero, scarponi Team e vado come un fulmine!

ON WHICH ASPECT HAS NITRO MOSTLY FOCUSED FOR THE NEXT SE-ASON? Id say the aspect on which Nitro has already been focusing for some seasons, underlined by the slogan Built for Good Times is to am-

plify the fun side of snowboarding as much as possible, independently

from the playing terrain: thats the brand philosophy. Technically spea-

king this attitude gets actualized with increasingly performant boards

(like the Sven Thorgen or the Blacklight) and with the technical-pleasure

connection of an always improving surf ride (like the Diablo, the Slash or

the Good Times).

NEWS? Talking about teams, Nitro keeps on pushing with a crew in continuous evolution and absolutely eclectic: ranging from deans, by

now real datum points in the snowboarding scene like Eero Ettala,

Bryan Fox, Austin Smith, Markus Keller, to the new talents like Sven

Thorgen (a real contest machine) or Sam Taxwood (who will have his

first video part for Videograss the next season) or the newcorners do-

omed to become icon riders like Marcus Kleveland, and in Italy with

our little diamond Marco Grigis.

DA DOVE NASCE LA TUA PASSIONE PER LO SKATEBOARD, SNOWBO-ARD E SURF? Lo skateboarding la mia vita. Ho iniziato ad andare con la mia tavola quando avevo 8 anni e ora ne ho 33. Lo snowbo-

arding arrivato dopo, avevo 13 anni e penso che il vero inizio sia

stato in Francia. Non sono molto per il surf per via di fattori esterni,

vivo a Cannes (sud della Francia) e come sai non abbiamo onde qui,

quindi rimango pi concentrato sullo skateboard e lo snowboard.

ERI O SEI ANCORA UN RIDER? Lo sono e morir insieme alla mia tavola. Non ci posso credere che riesco ancora a skateare come se

avessi 20 anni. Vado meno in snowboard ultimamente perch spes-

so sono in viaggio, ma porto sempre con me il mio skateboard.

QUANDO E DOVE HAI INIZIATO A SCOPRIRE LA TUA ARTE? Il tutto iniziato un po tardi, quando avevo 26 anni, non avevo mai utiliz-

zato un pennello prima o disegnato qualcosa su carta. Suona strano,

ma penso che quella notte sia successo qualcosa nella mia testa e mi

sono svegliato con questa pazza necessit di esprimere me stesso.

CHI LARTISTA CHE TI INFLUENZA DI PI? La maggior parte di loro provengono dalla scena dello skateboarding come Ed Templeton e

Jeremy Fish, ma linfluenza maggiore proviene da Keith Haring.

QUAL LA STRANA RAGIONE PER CUI HAI INIZIATO A LAVORARE SU COPERTINE DI RIVISTE E FOTO DI ACTION SPORT? Volevo semplice-mente dare una seconda vita a queste fantastiche riviste. Sono un

grande fan dei cartacei e quindi avevo una collezione in casa da spol-

verare. Quando ho iniziato a disegnarci sopra stata una rivelazione.

Ora ho un abbonamento con tutte le riviste di snowboard e skatebo-

ard di tutto il mondo. Possiamo dire che sono super connesso hahaha.

DA DOVE ARRIVANO I TUOI PERSONAGGI? Questa una domanda difficile! I miei personaggi provengono dalla mia mente. Quando

ero bambino facevo incubi terribili, vedevo fantasmi e mostri in giro

per la mia stanza. Ero cos spaventato! Da quando ho iniziato a di-

WHERE DOES YOUR PASSION FOR SKATEBOARD, SNOWBOARD AND SURF COME FROM? Skateboarding is all my life. I started to play with my board at 8 years old and Im 33 now. Snowboarding came

later, I was 13 but I think it was the very beginning in France. Im not

really into surf because of the natural situation. I live in Cannes (south

of France) and as you know we dont have waves so naturally I stayed

focus on skateboarding and snowboarding.

WERE OR ARE YOU A RIDER? Im still and I will die with my board. I cant believe that I can skate again as If I was 20. I do less snowboard

today because I travel a lot but I always bring my skateboard with me.

WHEN AND HOW DID YOU START TO DISCOVER YOUR ART? It was quite late, when I was 26, before that I never used any paint brush or

drew anything on a paper. Its strange to hear, I think that one night

something happened in my head and I woke up the day after with this

crazy need to express myself.

mag so I had a collection sleeping in my house. When I started to

paint on it, it was a revelation. Now I have a subscription with all the

skateboard and snowboard mag from all around the world. We can

say that Im super connected hahahah

WHERE DO YOUR CHARACTERS COME FROM? Its a big question dude ! My characters come from my head. When I was a kid I had

terrible nightmares, I used to see ghosts and monsters in my room.

PREPARAZIONE Se avete un buon controllo di tavola non farete troppa fatica ad imparare questo trick in park. Se invece trovate uno spot simile alla sequenza vi consiglio di averlo gi automatizzato per non chiudere con qualche flip out inaspettato dallostacolo che avete dopo il rail.

MANOVRA Calcolate bene la velocit in base al setup che avete scelto e droppate a gambe piegate verso il dente. Staccate ollando e agganciate la struttura in 50-50 con il peso pi centrale possibile. In questa fase importantis-simo non sbilanciarsi troppo per riuscire poi a staccare dal rail e non finire di nose contro il secondo ostacolo. Mantenete la posizione tenendo le gambe piegate per tutta la lunghezza della struttura e solo alla fine ollate per controllare meglio luscita. A questo punto potete gi co-minciare a ruotare le spalle in Bs mentre la tavola rimane nella stessa direzione fino a che avrete bonkato la secon-da struttura. Quando sentirete il contatto assecondate il colpo piegando le gambe per mantenere il controllo della manovra. Solo una volta superata questa fase, le gambe seguiranno la rotazione delle spalle per chiudere in bs 180. In atterraggio ammortizzate con le ginocchia per non subire troppo limpatto.

PREPARATION If you have a good control of the board you wont need much effort to learn this trick in park. And if you find a similar spot, as the one in the sequence, Ill suggest you to learn the trick perfectly in order not to land some unexpected flip out on the obstacle you have after the rail.

MANEUVER Depending on the setup you have chosen cal-culate the speed well and drop in with bent legs towards the kicker. Take off with an ollie and get on the structure with a 50-50 and put your weight centrally as much as you can. In this phase its really important not to lose the balance so that you can get off the rail without hitting the second structure with your nose. Maintain the position keeping your legs bent all along the structure length and just at the end make an ollie to control the way out. At this point you can start rotating your shoulders in Bs while your board will maintain the same direction till youll have bonked the second structure. When you will feel the contact with the structure bent your legs to maintain the control of the ma-neuver. Once overcome this phase, your legs will follow the shoulders rotation to land a Bs 180. On the landing amor-tize your knees in order not to suffer the impact too much.

PREPARAZIONE: Un classico che non passa mai di moda, quindi se siete dei veri Jibber ora di impararlo. Prima di provarlo in street il mio consiglio quello di fare qualche run in park concentrandosi su due trick base: fs boardslide e fs 180.

APPROCCIO Preparate bene il set up, con il dente in stile street (stacco basso a lato del rail). Quando tutto pronto fate qualche speed check per capire da dove dovrete partire. Se la neve in atterraggio super dura potete buttare un p di neve nel punto di impatto per renderlo pi morbido. Droppate e arrivate sul dente a tavola piatta, gambe piegate e il peso leggermente sui talloni.

STACCO E MANOVRA Durante lo stacco distendete le gambe per ollare e contemporane-amente fate partire la rotazione dalle spalle in Fs per creare lo spin necessario a ruotare le gambe di 270. L ollie dovr essere abbastanza alto da non sbattere contro la struttura durante la rotazione. Quando le gambe hanno ruotato di 180 le spalle bloccano la rota-zione, mentre la tavola completa la rotazione di 270. Lo sguardo invece rimane verso il rail durante tutta lesecuzione. Se avete eseguito tutto per bene vi trovate in fs boardslide con le spalle e lo sguardo verso latterraggio e non vi resta che aspettare la fine del rail.

ATTERRAGGIO Staccate dal rail con un leggero ollie per controllare meglio luscita e se la posizione sul rail era corretta le gambe e le spalle torneranno automaticamente in posizio-ne di riding. A questo punto piegate le gambe per diminuire limpatto sulle articolazioni.

PREPARATION Its a classic trick that never goes out of fashion, so if you are a real jibber its time to learn it. Before trying it in street, my advice is to take few runs in the park con-centrating on two basic tricks: Fs Boardslide and Fs180.

APPROACH Prepare the setup carefully, with an in-run in street style (take off from one side of the rail). When everything is ready try some speed checks to understand where is better to start from. If the snow is super hard on the landing you can put some extra snow on the impact point to turn it softer. Drop in and reach the in-run with flat board, bent legs and the weight slightly on the heels.

TAKE OFF AND MANEUVER During the take off extend your legs to ollie and at the same time start rotating your shoulders in Fs to reach the necessary spin to rotate your legs of 270. The ollie should be high enough in order not to hit the structure during the rotation. When the legs have made a 180 turn, the shoulders will stop the rotation while the board will complete the 270 rotation. You have to keep your look towards the rail during the whole execution. If you did everything right youll find yourself in Fs Boardslide with your look and shoulders towards the landing, so all you can do is to wait the end of the rail.

LANDING Get off the rail with a slight ollie to control better the way out. If the position on the rail was right your legs and shoulders will automatically return to the riding position. At this point bent your legs to reduce the impact over the articulations.

Leaving Laax never easy, ha scritto e cantato tempo fa Michael Stipe dei REM. Ma forse era unaltra citt, non importa. Quello che importa che lasciare una delle pi belle stazioni snowboardistiche di tutto il globo (Laax oramai non la si pu pi considerare stazione sciistica) sempre tanto difficile. Se non pensate troppo ai vostri soldini che escono dal vostro portafogli in men che non si dica, fatta. Non riu-scirete pi ad andarvene. Oppure non riuscirete pi ad andarvene per-ch non avrete pi denaro per tornare a casa e dovrete lavare i piatti. Comunque la si veda, forzato o meno, lalloggio a Laax sempre une-sperienza incredibile. Uno snowpark della vita mattiniera, pomeridia-na e notturna. Ce n per tutti i gusti. I bar e i ristoranti sono uno pi bello dellaltro, i locali pure (Riders Palace docet), e gli hotel sono fatti a misura di freestyler (the Rocks su tutti). Per un weekend in un posto del genere, pagherete ben volentieri una pizza a 25, una coca a 5, un caff a 4, ve lo posso assicurare. Non ve ne accorgerete nemmeno.

I Burton European Open sono un po come Laax: riescono sempre ad ammaliarti, ad emozionarti, a farti stare con lo sguardo allins, in cerca di un rider che vola nel cielo blu (dipinto di blu). Era il 15esimo anno per me che li seguo sin dalle prime edizioni livignasche, ed sempre come la prima volta. Bellissima. Pure questanno, per lennesi-

What matters is that leaving one of the best snowboarding resorts (nowadays you cant consider Laax a ski resort anymore) is always hard. If you dont think too much on all the money that goes out of your pocket in a flash, its done. Youll never wish to leave. Or may-be you wont be able to because youll be out of money to go back home and might stay over as a dishwasher. Whatever you think, for-ced or not, the accommodation in Laax is an incredible experience. A snowpark thats lively in the mornings, afternoons and nights. So-mething for all tastes. Bars and restaurants each more beautiful than the other, same for the clubs (Riders Palace rocks), and the hotels are freestylers friendly (The Rocks is the best). For a weekend in a pla-ce like this you would be even glad to pay 25 for a pizza, 5 for a coke, 4 for a coffee, I can assure you that. You wont even notice it.

All the Burton European Open are pretty much like Laax: theyre always ready to shine, to excite you, to let you look up looking for a rider whos flying over the blue sky. It was my 15th time since Ive been following all the first editions in Livigno back in the day, and it always feels like the first time. Amazing. Also this year, for the ump-

ma edizione dei BEO, il park dello slopestyle era come al solito molto divertente e perfetto, cos come lo era lhalfpipe che per loccasione gli svizzeri lhanno allungato di parecchi metri cos da poter permettere un paio di uscite extra ai rider che avevano le gambe per farle (sei o sette addirittura, quando di solito se ne fanno cinque). In pi, i nomi delle varie finali erano pazzeschi: avevamo le due medaglie olimpiche di Sochi 2014 Mark McMorris e Stale Sandbech (mancava solo loro Sage Kotsenburg), cera la leggenda Torstein Horgmo, il pi volte vin-citore dei BEO e TTR Peetu Piiroinen, il campione olimpico di halfpipe in carica Iouri Podladtchikov e la medaglia dargento di Sochi Ayumu Hirano, la regina del pipe femminile da tanti anni Kelly Clark e la sua allieva pi promettente Chloe Kim e tanti altri esponenti del bel riding come Markus Keller.

Torniamo alle quattro gare, partendo dal fondo cio dal pipe - il pi grande e lungo del mondo. Indovinate un po chi ha vinto nelle don-ne? S, bravi, lei, di nuovo lei. Kelly Clark, la snowboarder pi vincente di sempre, sia in campo femminile che in quello maschile. Chi andr a toglierle, probabilmente, la corona nei prossimi anni arrivata secon-da: la 14enne (s, quattordici!) Chloe Kim. Tra le sue uscite: McTwist, Crippler 7, Switch Backside Air. Cos, per dire eh. Terza la rider di casa,

teenth time of BEO, the park for the slopestyle was really fun and perfect like always, and same was for the halfpipe: the Swiss have extended the pipe for few meters in order to allow the professional riders to do some extra tricks (six or seven meters longer, when usually its just five). In addition, the riders list of the finals was crazy: we had two Olympic medals of Sochi 2014 Mark McMorris and Stale Sandbech (the gold medalist Sage Kotsenburg was mis-sing), there was the legend Torstein Horgmo, the many times BEO and TTR winner Peetu Piiroinen, the halfpipe Olympic champion Iouri Podladtchikov and the silver medalist from Sochi Ayumu Hi-rano. Also, the queen of the female pipe since ages Kelly Clark and her most promising disciple Chloe Kim, plus so many good riders from the scene like Markus Keller.

Il contest maschile invece per i primi due posti stato una ripetizione delle Olimpiadi di Sochi 2014, dato che I-Pod ha vinto ancora una volta davanti al giapponesino Ayumu Hirano. Ha sem-pre e solo 16 anni ancora, Ayumu. Il mondo suo. Un altro svizze-ro sul podio, David Halblueztel, per la gioia dei suoi connazionali e anche quella del nostro Giacomo Kratter, coach del team svizzero di pipe: il 50% di rider sul podio su 6 posti disponibili non male, vero?!

Torniamo indietro di un giorno, e affrontiamo il discorso slopestyle. Tra le donne la neozelandese Christy Prior ha vinto il titolo alla sua prima partecipazione ai BEO. Stranamente, e anche incredibilmente, per una volta non ha vinto la campionessa delle ultime Olimpiadi e anche di tutto il resto che cera da vincere negli ultimi 4 anni Jamie Anderson, che arrivata solo seconda. Per una volta. Terza la finnica Enni Rukajarvi, che colleziona podi da un sacco di tempo. Capitolo uomini. Anzi, capitolo il big air non mi piace pi, voglio solo contest di slopestyle e pipe. Il big air, lo dico, posso dirlo? Lo dico. Mi annoia. A morte. E come vedere una partita di calcio composta da soli calci di rigore. 90 minuti di calci di rigore. Oppure una di basket con soli tiri liberi, o da tre - la tripla! In slopestyle e in pipe perlomeno devi essere

S, lo : e infatti agli XGames ha vinto di nuovo, sempre davanti al norvegese), e a Torstein Horgmo che si ripreso alla grande dopo linfortunio di Sochi 2014 in training. Volete sapere i trick? Ne hanno fatti un sacco, tutti belli. Infortuni dei riders e voli cancellati, ma a Courmayeur Mont

Blanc anche questanno il Click on the Mountain stato un suc-

cesso. I team hanno trovato filo da torcere per completare il book

di 20 foto, ma grazie allheliski e tantissimo impegno, sono riu-

sciti a mettere insieme una collezione di immagini di tutto ri-

spetto che dimostrano le indubbie capacit sia di fotografi che di

riders. La giuria ha messo insieme professionisti di fotografia e

di freeride, che allunanimit hanno assegnato il premio al vin-

citore: Klaus Polzer per il Book e la Best Ski Picture, con HIISHII

vincitore della Best Snowboard Photo. Dal 9 Marzo sono stati tre

giorni adrenalinici nel comprensorio: vento da bufera, nebbia, e

infine una giornata perfetta di sole, quando gli elicotteri hanno

lasciato i team in cima a canali vergini e pendii da tracciare, tutto

questo immortalato da 4 rinomati fotografi di action sports. Ogni

team aveva 72 ore per scattare nellarea per produrre un portfolio

di 20 foto che mostrasse il meglio del freeride di sci e snowbo-

It has been a real challenge towards ridiculous weather conditions,

a continuously changing snow, riders injuries and delayed flights,

but also this year the Click on the Mountain at Courmayeur Mont

Blanc has been a success. The teams have had a hard time to com-

plete the 20 photos book, but thanks to the heliski and so much

effort theyve been able to put together a collection of remarkable

pictures that demonstrates both riders and photographers skills.

The judges put together a group of professional photographers and

freeriders, and with unanimity have assigned the first prize to Klaus

Polzer for the Book and the Best Ski Picture, and HIISHII winner

of the Best Snowboard Photo. The three days coming after the 9th

of March have been full of adrenaline at the ski resort: snowstorm

and wind, fog, and finally a sunny day when the helicopters left the

teams at the top or virgin canals and slopes to trace, everything shot

by 4 of the most renowned action sports photographers. Every team

had 72 hours to make a portfolio of 20 pictures showing the best

deliberare chi fosse il vincitore, basandosi su criteri di valuta-

zione come creativit, post produzione, composizione, livello

di riding, idee e realizzazione generale del book, allunanimit

abbiamo deciso di premiare un team in particolare. Le imma-

gini presentate hanno mostrato che il team vincitore non solo

riuscito a ottenere scatti eccezionali di sci e snowboard, ma

ha descritto larea di Courmayeur Mont Blanc e il suo simbolo

pi importante - il Monte Bianco con eleganza, attenzione,

ammirazione e rispetto. Congratulazioni al Team Klaus Polzer

per la vittoria! Sabato sera, tutti i fotografi, i riders, gli amici e

gli spettatori si sono trovati al Jardin de lAnge in centro a Cour-

mayeur per vedere il lavoro di tutti i team in questi 3 giorni. Tutti

i portfolio sono stati proiettati in piazza su un grande schermo,

accompagnati dalla curiosit della folla. Tutti si sono congra-

tulati coi vincitori, e in arrivo cera una lunga notte di party!

the international panel of judges has decided who was going to be

the winner, looking at the criteria of creativity, post production,

composition, riding level, ideas and realization of the book in ge-

neral. With unanimity weve decided to reward a team in particular.

The presented pictures showed that the winning team has not only

been able to obtain beautiful skiing and snowboarding shots, but

has described the Courmayeur Mont Blanc area and its most im-

portant symbol the Mont Blanc with elegance, attention, admi-

ration and respect. Congratulations to the Klaus Polzer Team for the

victory! On Saturday evening all the photographers, riders, friends

and spectators have gather up at the Jardin de lAnge in the centre

of Courmayeur to see the work all the teams have produced during

these three days. All the portfolio have been showed on a big scre-

en, accompanied by the crowds curiosity. Everyone congratulated

the winners, and there was an incoming long night of partying!

CAB 360 TAILBONE IN FURTSCHELLAS

Lintero mondo dello snowboarding ha atteso un intero video dello snowboarder preferito di tutti gli snowboarder Nicolas Mueller. Il progetto stato in qualche modo ufficialmente lanciato nellestate del 2013 e io non vedevo lora di tornare sulla neve ed iniziare a shootare con i ragazzi. Dopo un inizio stagione abbastanza lento le Alpi Sviz-zere del sud sono state travolte da una discreta tempesta ed abbiamo quindi deciso di dare il via al Nicolas Mueller movie project con il no-stro primo trip verso la bellissima valle dellEngadina. Emozionante! Abbiamo affittato un appartamentino a Silvaplana che si trova nem-meno a 3 minuti dalla cabinovia che ti porta in cima alla ski-area di Corvatsch (che significa corvo nero in Romancio). Il Corvo Nero non si rivelato il massimo nonostante avesse nevicato molto, ma nono-stante ci abbiamo conquistato i primi scatti per il progetto in tempo zero, che non affatto sorprendente se fotografi con un personaggio come Nicolas. Dopo una prima giornata gloriosa ho postato alcune istantanee sul journal del mio sito web, che hanno ufficialmente tra-sformato le chiacchiere sul progetto di Nico in fatti. Leccitante news si diffonde per tutto il globo come una fiamma, finendo su tutte le news delle riviste e dei canali social media ovunque. Nel frattempo noi siamo stati benedetti da unaltra gran nevicata e abbiamo deciso di girare tra i boschetti. Era profonda! Perfino Nicolas disse di non aver mai snowboardato della neve cos profonda. Viva La Engadina! I gior-ni seguenti erano soleggiati e quindi abbiamo esaminato degli spot e fatto un full-on shrednshoot fest. Followcam, spray, butter per giorni finch unaltra tempesta colpisse il sud. La nostra abbondante powder stata dopo poco interrotta in quanto siamo dovuti andare al Burton European Opean a Laax. The whole world of snowboarding has been waiting for full-len-gth movie of every snowboarders favorite snowboarder Nicolas Mller. As the Project was somewhat officially launched in sum-mer 2013 I couldnt wait to get on snow and start shooting with the boys. After a pretty slow start into the season the southern Swiss Alps got hit by a pretty decent storm so we decided to kick off the Nicolas Mller movie project with our first trip to the be-autiful Engadin valley. Exciting times! We rented a pretty decent apartment in Silvaplana situated not even 3 minutes away from the gondola that takes you up to the resort called Corvatsch (whi-ch means black raven in Rumantsch). The Black Raven turned out to be pretty boney still even though it had snowed quite a bunch but nevertheless we scored the first couple of shots of the project in no-time, which is actually no surprise if youre shoo-ting with someone like Nicolas. After a glorious first day I posted a few snaps on the journal on my website officially turning all the rumors about the Nico project into a fact. The exciting news spread around the globe like a wildfire hitting all the magazines news feeds and social media channels out there. In the meantime wed been blessed with a full-on reset in the area and it was still snowing so we decided to hit the trees. It was deep! Even Nicolas said hed probably never snowboarded in snow that deep. Viva La Engadina! The following days were sunny so we scoped out some spots and had a full-on shrednshoot fest going on. Followcams, sprays, butters for days before another storm hit the south. Our powder flow got shortly interrupted since we had to attend the Burton European Open in Laax. As expected the snow conditions further north were not remotely comparable to the powder paradi-

vamo girato al sud. Quindi dopo tutto il circo attorno alla gara, le feste e lo spring-shredding con tanto di postumi, lunico desiderio era quello di tornare al nostro piccolo e accogliente spot a Silvaplana. Eravamo giusto in tempo per la prima giornata di sole e cielo pulito dopo che la tempesta colp larea con un altro reset. Non vedevo lora di fotogra-fare quei spot che avevamo scoperto la settimana prima. Per esempio cera questo piccolo pillow to pillow transfer gap su cui sapevo che Nico avrebbe assolutamente spaccato. E lo ha fatto iniziando con un Fs 180, seguito da un Bs 180 Japan perfetto e per finire in bellezza un bel Method come solo Nico sa fare. Non poteva che andar meglio, pro-prio come immaginavo, Nico arrivato con questa triple pillow line cazzuta. La luce stava solo che per migliorare e Nico ha iniziato a fare una session su quel spot. Ci ha girato in almeno quattro modi diversi ed ogni volta riuscito a spaccare tutto come se fosse la cosa pi facile al mondo. Half-Cab to Bs 180 to 30m Mueller-butter giusto per nomi-narne uno. Ero gasato per il materiale che avevo, ma erano quasi tutte sequenze e io volevo uno scatto singolo decente. Era come se Nico mi leggesse nel pensiero, appena la luce stava diventando quasi perfet-ta mi ha sparato un Tailgrab super stiloso to un piccolo trannie-rock verso sinistra, e io lo sapevo quello era LO scatto. Al nostro ultimo giorno di shooting abbiamo deciso di visitare un altro resort accanto a Corvatsch, chiamato Furtschellas. Nico ci ha indicato un piccolo cliff e come al solito ha tirato un paio di 360. Poi arrivarono le nuvole e dovemmo terminare il nostro piccolo trip. Un trip da paura direi. La tempistica non poteva che esser migliore, visto che era il mio comple-anno, quindi nonostante la stanchezza ci siamo buttati ad un bar lo-cale per una birra, o due, o tre. Qualcuno anche collassato sulla tazza del cesso, ma questa ve la racconter unaltra volta. Viva La Engadina!

So after the all the circus around the comp, the parties and the hangover spring-shred there was no question asked, we just had to head back to our cozy little spot in Silvaplana. We were right on time for the very first bluebird day after the storm blessed the area with another decent reset. I coul-dnt wait to shoot those spots we had scoped out the week before. For instance there was this perfect little pillow to pillow transfer gap I just knew Nico would absolutely kill. And he did with a Fron-tside 180 to start things off, followed by a perfect Backsiede 180 Ja-pan and to round it up a classic Nico sun salutation Method. Just as I thought it couldnt get any better Nico came up with that big ass triple pillow line. The light was only gonna get better and better and Nico started sessioning that spot. He rode it about four diffe-rent ways and killed every single try like it was the easiest thing in the world. Half-Cab to Backside 180 to 30 meter Mller-Butter just to name one of them. I was stoked on what I got but it was pretty much all about sequences and I really wanted a decent sin-gle shot. It was like Nico read my mind because as the light was getting nearly perfect he blasted a super stylish Tailgrab into the other little trannie-rock further riders left and I knew that was THE shot. On our last day of shooting we decided to check out another resort right next to Corvatsch called Furtschellas. Nico-las pointed out that little cliff and he destroyed it as usual with a couple of 360ies. As the clouds were rolling in we called it a trip. A damn good trip Id say. The timing couldnt get any better sin-ce it was my birthday so even though pretty beat we hit the local bar for a beer or two or three. Someone even passed out sitting on the toilet but thats a story for another time. Viva La Engadina!

DI QUANTO SI ALLUNGA LA CARRIERA DI UN RIDER CHE DECIDE DI CONCENTRARSI SU QUESTA DISCIPLINA. In verit io non la vedo come un allungamento di carriera, faccio solo quello che mi piace fare e cerco di godermi la montagna.

DI QUANTO SI ALLUNGA LA CARRIERA DI UN RIDER CHE DECIDE DI CONCENTRARSI SU QUESTA DISCIPLINA. In verit io non la vedo come un allungamento di carriera, faccio solo quello che mi piace fare e cerco di godermi la montagna.

Sempre pi gente si sta avvici-nando a questa disciplina e credo che prender sempre pi piede. In questo circuito ci sono una serie di gare che vanno da 1* a 4*, tramite queste gare ogni stagione si qualificano un tot di persone per il world tour.

CHI SONO AD OGGI I TUOI RIDERS DI RIFERIMENTO NEL FREERIDE? Credo che il mio preferito sia ancora Jake Blauvelt, perch ha uno stile inconfondibile e una grande fantasia mentre snowborda.

IL RISCHIO IL PI GROSSO CHE TI SEI PRESO? Credo che un p di rischio ci sia sempre, per sono famoso perch le cornici sotto i miei piedi si staccano sempre, anche dopo che sono passate altre perso-ne, a volte anche se sono a quattro metri dal limite della cornice, ma per fortuna andata sempre bene!

QUANTO IMPORTANTE ESSERE PREPARATI SULLE SICUREZZE DEL-LA MONTAGNA IN FUORIPISTA? Essere preparati fondamentale, bisogna avere sempre lattrezzatura giusta, Arva, pala e sonda sono obbligatori, bisogna essere consapevoli di tutti i pericoli che ci sono in montagna, valutare le condizioni meteo/neve giorno per giorno e usare la testa!!!

COSA CONSIGLI A TUTTI I RIDERS CHE AMANO LE DISCESE IN FRE-SCA COME TE? Di godersele fino alla fine, senza per tralasciare la sicurezza!

La campagna dellOntario ha indubbiamente il suo fascino, ma gli

street spot difficilmente si trovano nei campi e quindi dopo una set-

timana passata nella cascina Bio di Ben Poechman, abbiamo deciso

di fare rotta verso Toronto, la citt pi popolosa del Canada e famosa

a livello mondiale per i suoi street spot. Non capita spesso di trovare

spot troppo difficili e rischiosi da far desistere un jibber convinto, ma

a Toronto, nostro malgrado, ci capitato diverse volte e posso assi-

curare che non una bella cura per lego. Il primo di questi stato

un doppio kink infernale, un 15-3-15, da noi ribattezzato el diablo

che a malincuore, abbiamo abbandonato, con lidea di darci allo sci

da fondo. Girare a caso per una citt delle dimensioni di Toronto,

alla ricerca disperata di street spots, pu risultare in un enorme spre-

co di tempo ed mentalmente deleterio per il focus del rider. Sen-

za una guida locale, trovare spot validi in un territorio cos vasto

praticamente impossibile, ed infatti proprio cos stato: abbiamo

vagato come anime in pena in cerca dei celebri spot immortalati in

tanti video, in una delle patrie dello street riding, senza alcun risultato.

at the Bio farmstead of Ben Poechmann we decided to lay up for

Toronto, the most populated city of Canada and the most famous

for its street spots. Its not so common to find very difficult and

risky spots to let a convinced jibber to give up, but in Toron-

to, against our will, it happened few times and I can assure you

its not really good for a rider ego. The first of all was a hell of a

double kink, a 15-3-15, that we renamed el Diablo and that we

regretfully had to leave with the idea of moving to cross-country

skiing. Cruising around a city that big as Toronto looking for

street spots can turn out to be a huge waste of time and men-

tally harmful for a riders focus. Without a local guide its pretty

impossible to find valid spots in such an extended territory, in

effect thats what happened: weve been wandering like lost souls

looking for the most famous spots that can be seen in many vi-

deos in one of the street riding homeland, without any result. We

tried to change approach and with the help of local suggestions

riusciti a trovare il primo spot degno di nota in una zona universitaria

fuori dal centro: un kinked rail 5-2-5, non troppo verticale, che dopo

6 ore passate vagabondando a vuoto, parso come un miraggio nel

deserto. A peggiorare lo stress della situazione metteteci che ero fuori

da giochi causa ginocchio KO; una volta raggiunto lo spot ho provato

anche ad allacciarmi la tavola per valutare una eventuale session, ma

il ginocchio mi ha dato una risposta perentoria: NO. Ho quindi me-

tabolizzato la cosa ed ho cercato dessere in un qualche modo daiuto,

spalando e poi confondendomi con la folla di studenti alle prese con

gli smartphone per immortalare la situazione. Juan Polanco, ribat-

tezzato ufficialmente Giovanni ed il nostro padron Frodo Max Zebe,

dopo aver chiesto supporto morale alla crew date le poche ore di luce

rimaste, hanno cominciato la session. Speed naturale, neve soffice,

quel maledetto kink era cos perfetto che dopo soli 3 tentativi Giovan-

ni si portato a casa un boardslide to nosepress fs out, mentre io da

bravo turista, tentavo di fotografare qualche scoiattolo al tramonto da

postare su facebook per attirare eventuali animaliste, peraltro fallendo

miseramente. Max nel frattempo stava cerando di portare a casa uno

di quei tricks da sbullonato che solo uno privo di articolazioni come

lui riesce fare, quando una simpatica auto con scritto POLICE sulla

portella si presentata, e non per aiutare a portare a casa lo spot. Ce

ne siamo quindi andati con un solo trick di Juan, mezzo trick di Max

e nessuna foto di scoiattolo: fallimento completo. La polizia canadese

non risultata essere particolarmente comprensiva, la loro tolleranza

alle nostre attivit ludiche abbastanza bassa e solitamente il loro NO

non ammette repliche. Abbiamo totalizzato 8 cartellini rossi durante

lintero trip e solo in una delle occasioni, prima di cacciarci, i poliziotti

ci hanno concesso un selfie e 2 chiacchiere amichevoli. Fortunata-

mente i giorni successivi sono stati decisamente pi produttivi: spo-

standoci in periferia, dove la densit di popolazione cala cos come

lattenzione delle forze dellordine, siamo riusciti a lavorare diversi

spot senza rischi. Abbiamo trovato una zona residenziale in collina,

piena di parchi e rail che parevano aspettare solo noi. Max la mattina

seguente ha filmato uno shot su un doppio kink esattamente di fron-

te ad una scuola e per evitare altri equivoci ha chiesto (ed ottenuto)

permesso direttamente al preside dellistituto. Nel frattempo Juan e

found a residential area on a hill, full of parks and rails that were

just waiting there for us. The following morning Max has filmed

on a double kink in front of a school and in order to avoid any

kind of problem he asked straight the headmaster of the school

for the permission. Meanwhile Juan and Nicol Pezzato were

Nicol Pezzato stavano lottanto con un kink da 7 veramente infer-

nale: hanno speso met giornata a tentare di portare a casa qualcosa,

ma senza risultati. Eravamo giunti al penultimo giorno del trip e la

crew era discretamente provata dal filming e dalle cartelle, tranne me

che non avevo girato e Denis Piccolo, che non mai stanco perch

una macchina da guerra quando ha la camera in mano. Il giorno

seguente, che era lultimo del trip, Nik, Juan e Johnny sono tornati al

Kink che non erano riusciti a domare il giorno prima, mentre il resto

della crew andava a visitare lacquario; ora non sto a spiegarvi le me-

raviglie che abbiamo potuto ammirare perch questo un articolo di

Sequence e non di Focus, ma se casualmente passaste da Toronto vi

consiglio un giro. Mentre noi guardavamo gli squali e sognavamo il

mare, Nik e Juan hanno finalmente portato a casa il trick su famo-

so kink 7 maledetto a -20 sotto zero, tra scoiattoli ed aceri canade-

si. Lesperienza di Toronto si conclusa quella sera tra gioie e dolori,

davanti ad una bella bistecca al sangue ed un calice di birra fresca,

come veri guerrieri al ritorno dalla battaglia. Era il momento di tornar-

sene in Italia, ma non prima di una breve gita alle cascate del Niagara!

We were already at the penultimate day and the crew was pretty

exhausted from filming and bails, except me because I didnt ride

at all and Denis Piccolo, who never gets tired when hes holding

his camera. The next day, the last one, Nicol, Juan and Johnny

went back to the kink they didnt manage to tame the day before

while the rest of the crew went to visit the aquarium; now Im not

going to explain you the beauties weve seen there because thats

an article for Sequence and not for Focus, but if you happen to

pass by Toronto Ill suggest you to visit it. While we were ad-

miring the sharks and dreaming about the sea, Nicol and Juan

had finally bring home the trick on the famous 7m kink with

-20 below the zero, among squirrels and Canadian maple trees.

The Toronto experience has ended that night between joys and

pains, in front of a delicious bloody steak and a pint of fresh beer,

like real warriors coming back from a battle. It was time to go

back to Italy, but not before doing a short trip to the Niagara falls!

La serie web Cooking With Gas ha sempre rappresentato molto di

ci che per me lo snowboarding: momenti divertenti girando

con i tuoi amici, sviluppando un riding creativo sia in street che

in park o powder senza troppa seriet. Per farla breve, un qualcosa

che ogni bambino riesce a comprendere. Quindi ero veramente

gasato quando Eero Ettala mi ha chiamato per shootare un po di

powder sulle Alpi. In quanto la parte sud delle Alpi era praticamente

il miglior posto in cui andare durante tutta la stagione, ho suggerito

di andare a Saas-Fee ed incontrarci con il mio grande amico Fre-

di Kalbermatten che ci avrebbe mostrato i migliori spot. I ragazzi

erano dentro fin da subito, e quindi siamo partiti con un buon ini-

zio. Era gi fine marzo e mi ricordo che Saas-Fee poteva resetta-

re la neve. Le previsioni meteo a lungo raggio sembravano essere

promettenti e appena Eero, Lauri Heisikari, Heikki Sorsa e il filmer

Mikael Ahtikari arrivarono in citt, la tempesta di neve ci accolse

con una valanga di neve fresca sul ghiacciaio. Da paura! Apparen-

temente i ragazzi non hanno shootato in fresca sulle Alpi per un

paio danni, quindi erano dannatamente in pompa di salire in cima.

Siccome sapevo che aveva soffiato un po di vento, ero preoccupato

che tutta quella morbida powder fosse stata trasportata altrove. Ma

appena siamo arrivati a fare la prima discesa in powder in cima al

Mittelallalin, tutti erano completamente entusiasti che la neve fosse
