    PowerPact Partnership Fund. (QLD only.) The partnership with energy providerENERGEX supports local community groups and schools through a financial assis-tance program. Grants are to be applied towards energy conservation, sustainabilityand environmental projects.     The DERM Library catalogue is now available to the outside world at http://www.derm.qld.gov.au/library/index.html (or just Google DERM library catalogue).Books can be borrowed via interlibrary loans but many of the publications are nowavailable for downloading as a PDF.     STRATEGIC CROPPING LAND INFO AVAILABLE: THE State Government haspublished a fact sheet for the rural sector regarding the Strategic Cropping Land Billand how the new legislation will affect farmers. The fact sheet is available at http://www.derm.qld.gov.au/factsheets/pdf/land/l286.pdf

    STATE GOVERNMENT RELEASES BIODIVERSITY STRATEGY FOR QLD:ENVIRONMENT Minister Vicky Darling this week released the State GovernmentsBiodiversity Strategy for Queensland, which has laid out principles for natural re-source management in coming years. Its key principles and objectives can beviewed in detailgo to http://www.derm.qld.gov.au/wildlife-ecosystems/biodiversity/biodiversity-strategy.html. Farm Management Systems (FMS) and cooperativeapproaches with farmers can lead to positive environmental and on-farm outcomes.The implementation of this strategy will need to recognise the role that farmers canplay in voluntarily managing and improving biodiversity.

    CARBON FARMING INITIATIVE OPEN FOR BUSINESS The Minister for ClimateChange and Energy Efficiency, Greg Combet, Parliamentary Secretary for ClimateChange and Energy Efficiency, Mark Dreyfus QC and Minister for Agriculture,Fisheries and Forestry, Senator Joe Ludwig, welcomed the launch of the Carbon

    Farming Initiative Administrator providing exciting opportunities for farmers,landholders and landfill operators to participate in carbon markets.

    In addition,Landholders may also benefit from the methodology for revegetation ofland, which is currently being finalised. Projects under this methodology willestablish forests through planting and seeding of native species on cleared orpartially cleared land. Along with the approved methodologies, the Carbon FarmingInitiative regulations are now available online at www.climatechange.gov.au/cfi. Theregulations provide information on the requirements and obligations associated withjoining and managing a project under the initiative.
