The Longview Progress Report 3

O n Thursday, July 22, the LongviewPartnership

offered a webinarthrough HALO Team.Once again, thislearning opportunitywas fantastic for ourarea businesses. Eightkey points werediscussed whichgenerated severalpotential solutions tobusinesses and greatdiscussion items.1. Offer an experience that impacts all 5senses.

• Sight – what impression do yourcustomers leave with? Consider place ofbusiness, website, and/or email campaigns?

• Hearing – What does your customer hearwhen they walk into your place of business?

• Smell – Every sense creates an experience.Does the aroma of your business match themusic you are playing or compliment theproduct/services you are selling?

• Taste – Have you thought about havingsomething special for your customers thatreflects the type of experience you wantthem to have when they visit your place ofbusiness?

• Touch – What opportunities do you havefor your customers to interact with whicheducates them on your products and/orservices? 2. Create and use a consistent andmemorable brand. Remember, a brand is not a logo! A logo isa piece of the brand.3. Pursue the business trifecta.Know what you do best and do it! Stay trueto your mission and purpose.

Do you have a proprietary product line?Could you? Have you thought about having asignature item such as a t-shirt, gift soap, foodproduct, etc? Put your logo and website onthe packaging. Use as customer loyalty gifts, hostess gifts, sell in your place of business.

Do you provide value added services? Howcan you create a customer experience thathelps you develop long term loyal customers?Perhaps it is as simple as hosting a “how to”workshop.

4. Focus on customer retention andnurture relationships. What are your touch points with yourcustomer? How often do you “connect”with your customers? Not to talk to… butrelate with!5. Events. Do you host events for your business?

Why not? Have you thought about waysyou can focus on reinforcing your services, websites, and tools you have to grow yourbusiness? Perhaps it is as simple asbringing your top customers in and letthem review your products and services.Or you host customer appreciation events.6. Offer Samples.Sampling is a critical part of the beverageindustry. They learned years ago throughsampling you begin shaping the type ofexperience potential customers has aboutyour products and services. What can youdo? Perhaps you provide items for a silentauction to benefit a non-profit, you set up atrade show and give prospective customersmini-items that gives them the opportunityto learn more about your business.7. Work with Other Businesses.Partnership marketing is an effective wayto help reduce your marketing costs.Example: Identify businesses who want toreach the sample target market. Identifymarketing strategies that you can worktogether in to promote your product andservices. Take advantage of bounce backprograms with each other. If a customerspends $500 with you over “x” period oftime send them a thank you card with agift card to the business you are patterningyour marketing with. 8. Be open 24 Hours A Day!!!! Latest retail trends indicate that by 2011customers will be shopping online first. Are you there? It doesn’t matter what typeof business you have, you need a websitethat provides customers the opportunity tobuy what you are selling.
