A manuscript dedication on the front paste-down reads: '' To Ray ''The Mole'' Bradbury from Pietri Kanescovitch Moskow 1987 Eingant sa Kolsov!''. *This inscription, believed to be by R.B.'s Soviet literary agent, jokingly harks back to the execution, in 1940, as a spy of Mikhail Voltsov (Stalin's Spanish Civil War special enoy); ostensibly prompted by 'Spycatchers' revelation the buy he planted in the U.S. ambassador's Moscow office (1940/50's) over a seven year period (the bug designed by Leon Theremin- of musical instrument fame) £80 - £120

Rider Haggard: ALS from this writer to the Editor of The Spectator comprised of five double sided pages responding in detail to a review of 'She' that evidently featured in that publication (possibly that featured in the archived Spectator issue of 15th. January 1887 although more detailed study would be required to confirm this). The letter is carefully tipped into the rear of a well-used copy of 'She' - which is probably a 1st. Ed. There is also a manuscript transcription of Andrew Lang's poem 'She' (dedicated to H.R.H.) written on the Half Title page - thus reflecting the association between the two men. No date appears with either manuscript and there is no other indication of the provenance of the volume. Also included in this Lot is a copy of Haggard's King Solomon's Mines, 1887 - fifty-third thousand. This is not associated with the 'She' volume by provenance. £200 - £300

The maximum space between the pressure plates is 14.5 cm. The main frame is secured to the base by means of two metal bolts.
