    CREATION AWAKES...

The season has changed and Spring is here!Which means that if youre reading this youre in

the last quarter of your 2013 Calendar year.In any competition, contest or sporting match

no matter the score at the three quarter mark,

the game is not yet over.

Comebacks are within reach for the underdog,

and score advantages can be squandered if the

winning team gets overconfident and loses its

    competitive edge.

Likewise for us, we may have varying results in

how weve played the game of life in 2013 so far.Maybe were out in front of our goals and living

our vision, or maybe were lagging behind where

we intended. Wherever we are though theyear is not yet over.

If God be for us then who can be against us!?

    (Rom 8:31)

Lets stretch out our faith and fix our eyes on the

prize of more of Jesus, more for others, and

more personal victory in our lives.

This is our time, this is our moment.

Heaven is cheering you on, and so are we!

    Yours in the race,

    Lead Pastors

    Empower Church - The Shire

Which means that theres still time to renew ourselves, play hard, and run with

perseverance the race marked before us (Heb 12:1).Remember friend, you were born for such a time as this (Esther 4:14) and theres agreat cloud of witnesses thats cheering you on and calling your name (Heb 12:1).

    Luke & Amber

The plans that God has for the remainder of your 2013 are

plans of prosperity, hope and a future (Jer 29:11).

    UrbanConnections

WE BELIEVE IN CHURCH COMMUNITY. We as Christians are not supposed to be isolated. On

the contrary it is when we are together in unity that we are our most powerful. Biblical Christianity

is not isolated Christianity (unless perhaps youre on the island of Patmos). In the early church we

see an account of a vibrant, healthy, caring, embracing family of faith that not only met in the

temple courts over the weekend, but also did life together house to house during the week (Acts

5:42). This is one of the greatest keys to healthy church life that there is! Christians loving one

another, caring for one another, discipling one another, and using their house as an extension of

Gods house! As believers we are commanded to love one another, to show one another hospitality,

to teach one another, and to honour Jesus whenever we meet together.

Urban Connections at Empower Church are the strategy by which we outwork these biblical

principles. We dream of a church that not only has inspiring weekend worship services, but also

mid week connection points in responsible peoples homes where the local church vision can

    continue to outwork!

The 3 crucial elements of EVERY Urban Connection is:

    1. DEEP COMMUNITY

We want to see people building authentic relationships, standing together

in faith, prayer and genuine friendship.

    2. DISCIPLESHIP AROUND THE WORD

The word of God is an essential component of an Urban Connection

Meeting. It is in this group environment that we can re-emphasise and

delve deeper into our Sunday series topics in order to discuss the How

Tos of applying the taught truth to our lives.

    3. AN OUTWARD FOCUS

Far from an insular Holy Huddle, our Urban Connections maintain a

passion for outreach and work intentionally on being open to the

unsaved, to evangelism, and to inviting others who could find Christ in

    their midst.

For more information on beginning or joining an Urban Connections please contact Patricia Leigh

on [email protected] or contact one of the people on the adjoining page for more details on

    their group.

    THE SUTHERLAND SHIRE...

We love our land, we love its

Christian heritage, we love thattraditional Judeo-Christianvalues are still for the most partembraced by our residents andare part of our cultural DNA andthinking. But the reality is youcan enjoy the fruits of secondand third generation faithw i t h o u t p e r s o n a l l y b e i n gconnected to the vine and thatis tragically where the majorityof our population lives. Enjoyingthe good life and good luck ofGods blessing upon us withoutpersonally being connected toHis salvation plan through JesusChrist for our lives is still a lostlife in need of conversion. We asEmpower Church are called to dosomething about this.

    pentecostal

    < 2000

Approximately 220,000 peoplelive in the Shire and just under1/5th of our population is 0-14years of age, making the biggestharvest point available to us as achurch being our childrensministry! So watch this spacef o r m o r e i n i t i a t i v e s a n dopportunities to engage with therising generation for Jesus. Wemust ensure that we direct our

children onto the right path, sothat when they are older, theywill not leave it. [Proverbs 22:6(NLT)]

Of the 220,000 residents of the

Sutherland Shire, less than 2000called themselves Pentecostal which means that less than 1%of our community is walking inthe fullness of the Holy Spiritmade available to every bornagain believer. As EmpowerChurch were called to dosomething about this as well!

We believe that the power of theHoly Spirit is a incredible giftavailable to every believer andessential to victorious Christianliving.

In addition to 220,000 residentsthat we have here - the areaalso sees approximately 1.1million visitors each year, particularly in the peak summerseason. Meaning that God hasplaced our church in the veryheartland of our harvest.

    What is Empowered Future?

Empowered Future is the fund into which we give sacrificial financial offerings that are

over and above our regular tithes and guest speaker love offerings, and is specifically

designated towards empowering the future of our church and the lives of others.

What does Empowered Future giving contribute towards?

For the season ahead, all Empowered Future giving will be directed towards the three focus

    areas of:

    VALIANT CHURCH

Finance raised under this heading will go towards:

    * Our Church building fund

    * Community Foodbank

    * Church outreach and marketing (website, magazine, invitations etc.)

    * And other initiatives that move our church towards making local

    community impact.

    VICTORY GENERATION

Finance raised under this heading will go towards:

    * Our Empower Kids Ministry

    * Our Switch Youth Ministry

    * The development of Family and young peoples Curriculum

    * Discipleship courses and resources

    * Generational outreach initiatives.

    PROJECT VANUATU

Finance raised in this fund will go towards Empower Churchs new Vanuatu

building and land package and in assisting the Villa local church as

they minister to the people of Vanuatu.

How can I give to Empowered Future?

    * Recurring & automatic giving is available via Credit/Debit Card & Direct Debit Request

    Forms

    * Recurring giving can be set to weekly, fortnightly or monthly

    * Account details are available with specification of whether that amount will attract tax

deductibility. Please use Empowered Future as your transaction reference and indicate

whether you require your giving to be tax deductible or not.

    * Cash, cheque or one-off giving can be made at any time using the Empowered Future

envelopes (coming soon), and we will be highlighting and celebrating Empowered Future

monthly in our services to give people an opportunity to give.

Who oversees the management of this finance in the three focus areas specified?

A Committee of Management known as the Finance Vision Team will soon be appointed in the

church, who will assist Ps. Luke & Amber in directing the funds to the best initiatives for

growth and impact in these three areas. Minutes of decisions made will be recorded for

transparency, and feedback highlighting progress and achievements will be given to the

church once per month. A full report of stewardship of funding will be given at our next

    church AGM.

Who can I speak to for changing my commitment or asking more questions?

Pastors Luke and Amber are available for further information as needed. Once the Finance

Vision Team members have been confirmed they will also be available for further

    questions.

Love andRespectis the single greatest secret to a successful marriage. Psychologicalstudies confirm this secret that has been in plan view in scripture (Eph 5:32-33) for nearly

2,000 years. Cracking the communication code between husband and wife involves

    understanding one thing: unconditional respectis as powerful for him as unconditional love isfor her. The knowledge of love and respect is the secret to marriage that every couple seeks;

    yet few couples find.

A wife has one driving need to feel loved. When that need is met, she is happy. A

husband has one driving need to feel respected. When that need is met, he is happy. Wheneither of these needs isnt met, things get crazy. Dr. Emerson Eggerich, in his book, Love and

Respect, refers to this as the Crazy Cycle.

Without love from her husband, a wife reacts without respect; without respect from her, he

reacts without love; and around and around the Crazy Cycle goes. She needs love just like

she needs air to breathe. When a husband denies his wife her deepest need, he will see the

spirit of his wife deflate, and she will react negatively. In not meeting her need, the husband

is stepping on her air hose. She is not getting the air she needs to breathe. The husband

needs respect just as he needs air to breathe. He also has an air hose that runs over a big tank

labeled respect. As long as the air is coming through, he is just fine.

How the need for love and the need for respect play off of one another in a marriage has

everything to do with the kind of marriage you will have. Unfortunately, marital craziness hasthousands of couples in its grip.

The good news is: There is a way out of the Crazy Cycle. First, the communication code

must be deciphered. Why is communication between husbands and wives such a problem?

It is an established fact that we send each other messages in code, based on gender, even

though it is not our intention. What she says is not what he hears, and what he thinks he

heard is not what she meant at all and vice versa. For example, she says, I have nothing to

wear. She means she has nothingnew. He says, I have nothing to wear. He means he hasnothingclean. As long as spouses do not learn how to decode the messages they are sendingto each other, the Crazy Cycle will spin and spin some more.

Always ask yourself: Is what I am about to say or do going to feel unloving to her? Is what

I am about to say or do going to feel disrespectful to him? What do you want for your

marriage? Want some peace? Want to feel close? Want to feel valued? Then why not try

    someLove and Respect.
