Why I Joined Key Club by Victoria Ngo
I joined Key Club for a couple of reasons. I needed an
extracurricular activity in order for my resume to look good
when I go to college. I was definitely not an athletic person
so joining a sport was out on my list. My friend, who is now
going to college, first told me about Key Club. She was also a
member and would regularly go to the Eagle Rock Library for
“Fun Fridays” to serve off her hours. Even though it took up
time, she was happy and liked to be a member of Key Club.
My sister was also considering joining at that time and she
told me that Key Club was basically community service.
Everything about Key Club seemed pretty interesting
because it also benefits our community and I wanted to be a
part of it. This was what I was looking for. When I went to the
meeting at lunch the other day, I was amazed by the spirit
and energy of all the members in Key Club. Everyone
seemed so excited and this was when I knew, without doubt,
that I was joining Key Club. I was very anxious and I wanted
my friends to join with me, so I asked and told them about it,
and they agreed! Key Club also helps me build responsible
skills and would seem very fun to be a part of this group. After
being in Key Club last year, I wanted to join again because it
was so fun and I liked to help people!
LA River Clean Up by Rheyven Baylosis
On September 29, 2012 over 200
Key-Clubbers along with myself, took part in
the D3S L.A. River Clean-Up event in the
Griffith Park area. During this event, we
walked up and down the river picking up
trash, pulling weeds, and removing as much
waste as possible. We were split into groups,
each with a different task to fulfill, and were
sent to certain areas where those tasks
were to be carried out.
My group was assigned trash pick-
up along the riverside and on the
downward slant. All together, we filled
about 6 bags of trash, and 2 bags of weeds
and dead plants. All groups tasked with
picking up trash, completely filled over 20
bags of weeds and waste. The entire
division filled over 30 bags of trash, weeds,
dead and fallen plants, and other forms of
waste.
What made this event memorable
and fun, just like any other Key Club event,
was how much closer our division came
together as a family. Each individual
working with one another to restore the
beauty of this landmark was an amazing
sight to see. Seeing the cooperation and
togetherness of our division is what Key
Club, in my opinion, is all about.
