“On September 11, 2001, four u.s. planes hijacked by terrorists crashed into the world trade center, the pentagon, and a field in Pennsylvania killing nearly 3,000 people in a matter of hours. Behind the staggering number of deaths are the individuals, each of whom left behind family, friends, and co-workers who feel the national tragedy on a personal level. Cnn.com established {a} site as a record of those who died. {it} was archived in august 2004.” www.cnn.com/specials/2001/memorial

We remember: the policeman John mcloughlin

Sergeant, port authority police department

While McLoughlin was leading four Port Authority police officers through the concourse between the Twin Towers, the south tower collapsed, trapping the men. When the north tower fell, they were buried even deeper beneath the debris. It took until dawn to dig out McLoughlin, who was pinned beneath 30-feet of rubble.

We remember: the marine Peter regan

United states marine

He was stationed at Camp Pendleton in California when the towers were hit and his father, Donald, a New York City firefighter with Res-cue 3, rushed to the scene. Peter flew east and joined in recovery efforts at Ground Zero, searching for his dad.

We remember: the paramedic Juana lomi

Paramedic, nyu downtown hospital

She and her partner dashed to the scene. They survived the col-lapse of both towers, then they went to work.

t was an overwhelming feel-

ing of fear, horror—and not

being able to do more. There

were hundreds of people that

needed to be treated. I was at

risk of losing my life, but I had

to stay and help other people.”

“The two buildings literally fell

on top of us. Will and I were

trapped in like a little cave. I

couldn’t see him but we could

talk to each other.”

“If the roles were reversed, I

know he would do the same

thing. I just want something of

his. I would prefer to bring

something back.”

INGREDIENTS

12 lady apples, washed and stemmed

2 cups hazelnuts, toasted, peeled, and chopped

1 cup sugar

1/4 cup dark corn syrup

1 cup heavy cream

2 tablespoons unsalted butter

Candy thermometer

DIRECTIONS

1. Insert a 5-inch dowel or ice pop stick into the top of each apple. Place hazelnuts in a small bowl.

2. Place sugar, corn syrup, cream, and butter in a small saucepan, and bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Continue cooking until the temperature registers 245 degrees on a candy thermome-ter, 10 to 12 minutes. Fill a large bowl with ice water. Remove saucepan from heat, and briefly plunge it into ice water to stop the cooking. Dip one apple into the caramel, coat the top and sides using a spoon, and roll the bottom in the nuts. Transfer to a serving platter. Repeat with re-maining apples.

Not the cooking type? Business Manager, Danielle, recommends Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory located at the Galleria mall. They have a delicious assortment of caramel apples to crunch on.

This month’s resident event: garage sale

Gates de Provence wants to make you money! We are holding a garage sale Saturday, September 26th from 8 o’clock in the morning to 1 o’clock in the afternoon. We believe it’s never too late to do a little spring cleaning, so clear out those closets and price that pair of jeans or that sweater your mother-in-law bought you for your birthday, because we all know that one

man’s trash is another man’s treasure.

Call the office by Monday, September 21st to let us know if you plan on taking advantage of this month’s event. We want to make sure we have plenty of tables to display everyone’s goods.

Your property manager, Dawn, is celebrating her birthday this month! Be sure to drop by the office Tuesday, the 22nd to give her birthday wishes.

And happy birthday to each of our residents who are celebrating birthdays in the month of September.

Is your toilet not flushing? Or is that one light bulb out, and it’s driving you insane? Calling the office to submit a service request is always a great idea. I, however, prefer going online to our Web site and filling out my service requests in writing. Once you hit that submit button, the request is automatically sent to our e-mail inbox. We will print it out, place it in your file, and complete a work order for our maintenance team.

INSTRUCTIONS:

Go to www.gatesdeprovenceapts.com

Click on “Service Request” under Property Services in the bottom, left-hand corner.

Fill out the form, and press “Submit.”

It’s as easy as that!

As you may know, Gates de Provence holds an event each month for our residents. But, our creativity is thinning. We need your help! Please submit any suggestions to an office member, or place it in the drop box. We would love to hear from you!

And while you’re at it, please submit any questions or concerns that you may have. Our team is devoted to making this community your home. Please remember that we are here for one reason, and one reason only—and that is to help you with all of your needs!
