As you read this article, I encourage each and every one of you to consider attending Rally Day and to think about how important it is for us to have a good understanding of Scripture. Ever since the 1950s, attendance in Sunday School has decreased. Even though we profess ourselves to be Christians, way too many of us are Bible illiterate. I count myself in that group too, for my attendance in Sunday School as a youngster was sporadic to say the least. In fact, when I heard that seminary students had to take a Bible exam as part of their curriculum, I was tempted to drop out. Thank goodness I had at my disposal Cliff Notes and old Bible exams to study from. What I am trying to say is that it’s okay if you don’t know your Bible very well. The folks who teach our Sunday School classes understand this, and they will not call you out in front of your peers. What they will do is teach you the stories of the Bible and how they connect with each other. They’ll also teach you how something written thousands of years ago still has relevance in our world today. So make it a point this year to attend a Sunday School class of your choosing, and invite your whole family to attend one too. There’s so much to be gleaned from Holy Scripture, and we’re never too old to learn something new. FROM DAVID'S PEN . . .

August 20, 2012

Dear Friends –

Today was a big day in the Palmer household. In fact, it was a big day in many people’s households as most of Alabama’s children started school today. We’ve got Mabry

in high school and Leslie in middle school, and my prayer this morning was that this year will be one of their best and that it will be filled with good teachers, good friends, and lots of good old fashioned knowledge!

As our community begins another year of school, so does our church’s Sunday School program. Rally Day is around the corner (September 9th) and on that day we’ll be celebrating promotions from one Sunday School class to another. We’ll also be giving out attendance awards, collecting food for LCCI, and hearing various people speak about trips they took this year and what they learned from them. It will be a festive day for sure!

So join us on September 9th for Rally Day and let this year be the one you start to do some serious Bible study.
