We must pay the most careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that

we do not drift away. 2 For since the message spoken through angels was

binding, and every violation and disobedience received its just

punishment, 3 how shall we escape if we ignore so great a salvation? This salvation,

which was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard

him.

RE-CONSIDER your

Are you in a Toxic Relationship?

Page 10: September Issue

Relationships are common between all life forms. While a plant differs from a human being in many ways, relationships are similar all across the board- no matter who, or what you are . This article however, will be discussing a basic study of relationships between human beings. How can you tell if the type of relationships you have are healthy ones? Whether the relationship you’re in is between you and your teacher, your children, your co-workers, or your school-friend from down the street, there are four main types of relationships found in nature, that reflect most of the relationships that we form with the people around us:

In a commensalistic relationship, one party benefits from the another without affecting it. An example of this class of relationship would be, say a “friend” that copies off of your homework every day. Your friend is reaping benefits left and right--straight As, a secure spot on the track team and happy parents, while you continue to your work, unaffected by your friend or their benefits. While your friend is not affecting you in any way, you should always question this type of relationship because a friendship should never be built on what someone can do for you, but simply because of who you are. Even if you don’t have many friends, never settle . It’s a two-way street, and you deserve some benefits too!

1.Commensalism2.Predator &

Prey3.Mutualism4.Parasitism

Page 11: September Issue

A predator & prey relationship isn’t as common in the bonds of humans as with animals, but there are situations as to when this title is appropriate, such as a stalker and his/her victim. These kindsof relationships are obviously dangerous and should never be entertained, but extinguished as soon and as effectively as possible.

In a mutualistic relationship, both sides benefit from each other. They evolve with one another and make use of their relationship for the benefit of both parties. Take an Oxpecker (a kind of bird), and a Zebra for example. Oxpeckers eat the parasites off of the Zebra for food. While the Oxpecker is benefitted a good meal, the Zebra is getting pest control! These kinds of relationships that you want to be apart of. It’s always a good thing to be able to help and inform people, but sometimes, learning from others is even better. You should never be the one giving everything into a relationship and receiving nothing. This mindset isn’t greedy, it actually makes a sense! It’s also not good to always be on the receiving end ( a commensalist relationship), which brings me to my next and final point.

Page 12: September Issue

Parasitic Relationships are similar to commensalistic relationships, however, in parasitic relationships, one party suffers while the other benefits greatly. Think of a leech. If a leech attaches itself to you, it’s going to suck your blood. It’s going to continue to extract from you, until there is no more to extract. The leech is benefitting from you. It’s getting fed continuously, but after you loose enough blood, you’ll eventually die, because you are not benefitting in any way. Parasitic relationships are extremely dangerous. If all a person cares about is benefitting from you—to the point of your own expense, they are not your friend, and you need to disconnect yourself from this type of relationship because you will end up compromising, and giving up a lot to keep a friend that doesn’t hold your best interest at heart.

Page 13: September Issue

In conclusion, relationships are important. Generally, they tell people a lot about how you view yourself, and how you view others. They can affect your life in amazing ways, or they can break you down, and cause you stress. There are even those types of relationships that don’t affect you at all. While these relationships aren’t exactly harmful, they can be time-wasters. Never settle for someone that doesn’t interest you, just so you can have someone to call a friend because while you are giving into the relationship, the other party is not in any attempt to give anything into it and could really care less if you benefit or not.

Relationships take time, you don’t build them overnight, so after reading this article, sit down and get out a sheet of paper. Write down everybody you call a friend and go down the list. Does your relationship with this person have any purpose? Are they invasive, taking every thing they can get? Do you actually learn from them as much as they learn from you, or do the show they characteristics of a predator? If the answer is predator, drop him/her like a bad habit before anything is blown dangerously out of proportion.

Immediately take action towards the relationships that don’t bid you well. Let us know how this article helped you, and send us and email at [email protected] .

“Fermented foods help stabilize our intestinal flora. When the intestine is in good shape, it strengthens our immune system,” says Bellatti. Black garlic has been increasingly sought-after in high-end cuisine, and it is often used to make sauces, dressings, and dips.Available at health-food stores and online; try thespicehouse.com.

BLACK garli

cBlack garlic has long been prized by Asians for its health benefits, but it became widely available in Western markets only a few years ago. The black bulb is created by fermenting raw garlic through prolonged exposure to heat and humidity, giving it a sweet, mellow flavor and an inky hue. In addition to the sulfuric compounds that provide garlic with its heart-healthy and anticancer

benefits, the fermented cloves are a source of important probiotics.

Digital Wallets

Page 16: September Issue

The traditional leather wallet is your stalwart companion for safekeeping precious possessions of all kinds. It holds tightly your cash, credit cards, family pictures, driver's license, insurance identification, shopping loyalty cards and more. Your wallet grows thicker and more unwieldy by the day; your spine shrieks every time you sit on it the wrong way.Oh, and it's entirely unsecure, some say. Any crook that gets his hot little hands on your wallet can easily blow all of your cash and possibly wring your credit accounts dry, too. In spite of that fact, 85 percent of transactions across the globe are still based on cash and checks Americans alone wrote around 14 billion checks in 2009.To combat theft, simplify your finances, avoid being the "check-writing guy" in line at the store and maybe even ward off trips to the chiropractor, perhaps it's time for a wallet upgrade. For that, you might consider the digital wallet.A smart phone digital wallet will help you pay for stuff, but it will also store your concert tickets, bus and subway passes and gift cards. Retailers will reward your loyalty by offering instant freebies, discounts and coupons. Your digital wallet might even unlock the doors to your house.

Paying at home is one thing; paying on the go is quite another. On the next page, read how digital wallets have gone mobile and how they put substantial financial firepower in your hands. It's easy to see how quick and easy checkout benefits you while you're at your home or office computer. Doing your Christmas shopping from your desktop? A digital wallet spares your fingers the constant repetition of typing your 16-digit credit card number. But a mobile digital wallet -- that is, one on

Page 17: September Issue

your smart phone -- could transform the way you pay no matter where you are.

More than half of Americans now own smart phones, and experts say that number will only continue to riseGoogle Wallet is one of the most prominent smart phone apps leveraging the power of NFC. All of your credit card data (as well as loyalty and gift cards and all sorts of other data) is stored on Google's servers and not your phone. Wallet works online, too, much like PayPal or other wallet services. Just sign into your password-protected account and you'll complete a purchase in seconds instead of minutes. But other companies are trying to catch up. Isis Mobile Wallet is a direct competitor to Google and is supported by wireless carriers Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile, as well as Deutsche Telecom.

Digital Wallets are on the rise, and while they have pros and cons, you’re going to start seeing them even more pretty soon. What do you think about mobile wallets? What are you concerns? Let us know-email us!

While many people avoid these kinds of conversations and kinds of talks, even with their doctor, it’s important to know these things about yourself! The Bristol stool scale, as it is known, was first published in the Scandinavian Journal of Gastroenterology in 1997. And while some in the gastrointestinal research community have questioned the scale's overall accuracy, the system remains in use. Refer to the following chart, to learn about what most people don’t know: your waste.

A Stinky Subject

Page 20: September Issue

Type 1: Separate hard lumps that look like deer or rabbit poop. These are typically the most difficult to pass and are widely considered a sign of constipation.

Type 2: A unified, sausage-shaped log consisting of a mass of Type 1 poops all lumped together. Not as difficult to pass as a type 1, but still requiring a lot of straining, this also may indicate a slightly less severe bout of constipation.

Type 3: This is actually what you want your stool to look like, albeit a bit on the dry side. Still so long as you aren't blowing gaskets trying to push this out, this is perfectly healthy.

Type 4: This the "ideal" texture of stool. It should be sausage-shaped, with a smooth and most likely encased in mucus.

The Chart

Page 21: September Issue

Type 5: This is a bit on the soft side, not quite diarrhea but definitely not an ideal normal bowel movement. These soft blobs with clear-cut edges are passed easily.

Type 5: This is a bit on the soft side, not quite diarrhea but definitely not an ideal normal bowel movement. These soft blobs with clear-cut edges are passed easily.

Type 7: When you suddenly find yourself sprinting for the bathroom, get ready for a Type 7 stool—if you can even really call this oily brown splatter in your shorts "stool“, it’s very unhealthy and could mean you are dehydrated.

So while you shouldn't try to diagnose any medical condition based solely on the divinations of your waste

and a guide you found on the Internet, keeping an eye on the color, quantity, consistency, and quality of your waste can help alert you to subtle changes in your health while

acting as a barometer for your overall health.
