SEPTEMBER 9, 2017 | 3 PM -7 PM In 2012, I contracted a deadly, flesh-eating bacteria which led to the amputation of my hands, my right foot and my entire left leg. Since then, being in a wheel- chair has shifted my perspective, as I now fully realize the daily challenges faced by people with disabilities. And throughout my recovery, it became evident that physical barriers are not the only obstacles these individuals must overcome. People with auditory, visual, cognitive and behavioral impairments also have unique mental health needs. It was in my hospital bed that I envisioned a safe, inclusive wellness center for people of all abilities. A place of healing that would provide accessible outdoor recreation and mental health opportunities – for all who need it. I established the Aimee Copeland Foundation to bring this dream to life. ACF works to empower those with disabilities to shape meaningful lives, and to find peace, strength, and fulfillment – beyond what they may have ever imagined. With the help of our generous donors, ACF will launch a pilot program in 2018, and we’ll break ground on the inclusive park and holistic therapy center the following year. The center will provide visitors with an accessible, outdoor envi- ronment and healing activities, such as community gardening, cooking classes, yoga, retreats, workshops, and individual and group counseling. To kick off our fundraising efforts for the center, we’re hosting our first annual Eudaimonium Festival. Eudaimonium, which appropriately translates to “human flourishing,” will be held in September at Atlanta’s beautiful Candler Park. Event activities will include a one-mile walk, live music, food trucks, yard games and booths providing information on health and wellness resources available in our area. Our hope is to raise awareness about ACF and the center, while also culti- vating an opportunity to bring our community together in a fun and positive way! ACF believes that mind, body and soul are one, and that the magic of the outdoors can transform physical, mental and spiritual health. We believe that we are all imperfectly perfect, and everyone deserves the chance to play, contribute, and thrive. I hope that you will consider sponsoring Eudaimonium Festival. You’ll be joining us in our mission to build this much-needed resource for our community members of all abilities – and we can’t do it without you! In 2012, I contracted a deadly, flesh-eating bacteria which led to the amputation of my hands, my right foot and my entire left leg. Since then, being in a wheel-chair has shifted my perspective, as I now fully realize the daily challenges faced by people with disabilities.
