CLASS DESCRIPTIONSTo qualify for any championship class, you must have shown in

any class in that division, unless otherwise specified.

AMERICAN SADDLEBRED DIVISION(From the ASHA website)

In the show ring, American Saddlebreds compete in five primary divisions: Five-Gait-ed, Three-Gaited, Fine Harness, Park and Pleasure. Each division has its own “look” and desired traits; however, all strive to meet the model of an ideal American Saddle-bred. They are judged on performance, manners, presence, quality and conformation. Five-Gaited – Horses competing in the Five-Gaited division display beauty, bril-liance, elegance and refinement. The horses perform at speed in an animated form. Horses are shown with a full mane and tail. Protective boots may be worn on the front feet. The horses are judged at the animated walk, trot, slow gait, rack and canter. Three-Gaited – Horses competing in the Three-Gaited division are the epitome of beauty, brilliance, elegance, refinement and expression. The horses perform in an animated and precise manner. To accentuate the refinement of horses in this division, they are shown with a roached mane and tail. Horses are judged at the animated walk, park trot and canter. Fine Harness – Horses competing in the Fine Harness division should posses all of the elegance and refinement of the ideal American Saddlebred. As opposed to the Five-Gaited horses, entries in this division work toward animation rather than speed. The horses are shown with a full mane and tail. Protective boots may be worn on the front feet. The horses are judged at the animated walk, park trot and “show your horse.” Park – Horses competing in the Park division should be stylish with finish and quali-ty and be well-mannered. The horses perform with animated and graceful gaits. Classes may be offered for horses with a roached mane and tail or horses with a full mane and tail. The Park division holds five-gaited, three-gaited and driving classes. Pleasure – The Pleasure division has been broken down into two sections – Show Pleasure and Country Pleasure. All horses competing in the Pleasure division conform to the typical Saddlebred type. They perform their gaits promptly and in a comfortable manner, giving the distinct impression of an enjoyable ride. Manners are emphasized in this division, and all horses must perform a true, flat walk. Show Pleasure – Horses competing in Show Pleasure should be alert and responsive to their environment and rider. Generally these horses display less animation than the Three-Gaited, Five-Gaited and Fine Harness Performance horses. Horses are shown with a full mane and tail. The Show Pleasure division offers three-gaited, five-gaited, western and driving classes. Country Pleasure – Horses in the Country Pleasure division are typically less showy than the Show Pleasure horse and demonstrate easy, ground-covering action. The Country Pleasure horse is shown with a full mane and tail and must be plain shod, suit-able for trail riding. A multitude of classes are offered in the Country Pleasure division, including three-gaited, five-gaited, driving, western and hunter classes.

If you feel a class should be split, please contact the Show Committee. Cross-entering between Country Pleasure and Show Pleasure or Park Pleasure are not allowed. MORGAN HORSE DIVISIONSummer’s End is designated an AMHA Star Rated Show.

In addition to the physical characteristics that identify the Morgan, a Morgan is distinctive for its stamina and vigor, personality and eagerness, and strong nat-ural way of moving. Conformation is the degree of perfection of the component parts and their relationship to each other. Correct Morgan type and conformation is the same in each section of the Morgan Horse division where conformation is considered. There is only one standard for type and conformation of the Morgan horse.

Judging Criteria—Most Morgan classes call for type and conformation to be con-sidered 40% and performance 60% in the qualifying classes; and type, conforma-tion, and performance 50% in the championship classes. At all-Morgan competi-tions, stripping of horses is mandatory in Open and Junior Horse Championship classes under saddle. Exceptions: One horse and Parade classes. Ideal Morgan type and conformation is the same in all classes and all sections of the Morgan division. The other performance criteria considered are quality, manners, presence, perfor-mance, cadence and balance, and suitability of horse to rider/driver. The specific kind of class being judged determines the importance of each criteria in the final judging outcome. The order in which each is listed in the class specifications determines where the emphasis should be placed. For example: A horse placed first in a class judged on performance, cadence and balance, quality, and manners could justifiably not be placed first against the same horses if the class were judged on manners, quality, and performance, ca-dence and balance. AMHA endorses the concepts regarding protective headgear expressed in the USEF Rule Book. Riders must not be penalized for the wearing of protective head-gear in any class. All Junior Exhibitor classes call for manners and suitability as primary cri-teria. Judges must select their Junior Exhibitor winners from those horses that clearly portray the attributes of a well-mannered, safe, pleasant horse. If the rider is overmounted or if the horse is not suitable to that rider, it must result in a severe penalty. The Morgan Horse is shown in a wide variety of disciplines, including: Park Harness and Saddle, English Pleasure & Pleasure Driving, Classic Pleasure & Driving, Western Pleasure, Hunter Pleasure, as well as Carriage Driving, Trail, Dressage, Western Dressage and over fences. For more detailed class/division specifications, please refer to the MorganHorse.com website under Competitions —> Morgan Judging, specifically by downloading a copy of the Morgan Horse Judging Standards.
