Welcome to Second

In recent weeks, we have seen a steady increase in Covid-19 transmission, cases, and hospitalizations in our county caused by the Delta variant. In an effort to relieve our overburdened healthcare system and workers, as well as to help protect our children and others who are not eligible for vaccination, we’ve made a change to our mask guidance. We are once again recommending that everyone above the age of 2 wear masks inside our buildings. The CDC, our local health department, and medical professionals within our church family highly recommend universal indoor masking, regardless of vaccination status. Please join us in loving our neighbors in this tangible way.In addition, social distancing between family units continues to be recommended. Every other pew in the back floor section of the Sanctuary will continue to be roped off for those who prefer greater distancing.

In the year that King Uzziah died I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him stood the seraphim. Each had six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew.

And one called to another and said: “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!”

And the foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of him who called, and the house was filled with smoke.

And I said: “Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts!”

Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a burning coal that he had taken with tongs from the altar.

And he touched my mouth and said: “Behold, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away, and your sin atoned for.”

Come and Receive His GraceCORPORATE PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Holy Father, You made us in Your image, with a mind to know You, a heart to love You, and a will to serve You. But our knowledge is imperfect, our love inconstant, our obedience incomplete. Day by day, we fall short of Your glory and fail to grow in the likeness of Jesus. In Your tender love, forgive us. By Your grace, rekindle our love for You and bring us back into the fullness of our covenant with You and one another. It is the matchless name of Jesus we pray.

Words and Music: Jonny Robinson, Rich Thompson, Michael Farren; arr. James Ryan

Vocalists:What gift of grace is Jesus, my Redeemer. There is no more for heaven now to give. He is my joy, my righteousness, and freedom, my steadfast love, my deep and boundless peace. To this I hold, my hope is only Jesus, for my life is wholly bound to His. Oh how strange and divine, I can sing, all is mine, yet not I, but through Christ in me.

WCongregation stands and sings:

The night is dark, but I am not forsaken, For by my side the Savior, He will stay. I labor on in weakness and rejoicing, For in my need His power is displayed. To this I hold, my Shepherd will defend me Through the deepest valley He will lead. Oh the night has been won, and I shall overcome, Yet not I, but through Christ in me.

No fate I dread, I know I am forgiven; The future sure, the price it has been paid. For Jesus bled and suffered for my pardon, And He was raised to overthrow the grave. To this I hold, my sin has been defeated; Jesus now and ever is my plea. Oh the chains are released, I can sing, I am free, Yet not I, but through Christ in me.With every breath I long to follow Jesus, For He has said that He will bring me home. And day by day, I know He will renew me, Until I stand with joy before the throne. To this I hold, my hope is only Jesus, All the glory evermore to Him. When the race is complete still my lips shall repeat, Yet not I, but through Christ in me.When the race is complete, still my lips shall repeat, Yet not I, but through Christ in me. Yet not I, but through Christ in me.

Revelation 14:1-51Then I looked, and behold, on Mount Zion stood the Lamb, and with him 144,000 who had his name and his Father’s name written on their foreheads. 2And I heard a voice from heaven like the roar of many waters and like the sound of loud thunder. The voice I heard was like the sound of harpists playing on their harps, 3and they were singing a new song before the throne and before the four living creatures and

before the elders. No one could learn that song except the 144,000 who had been redeemed from the earth. 4It is these who have not defiled themselves with women, for they are virgins. It is these who follow the Lamb wherever he goes. These have been redeemed from mankind as firstfruits for God and the Lamb, 5and in their mouth no lie was found, for they are blameless.

The grass withers, the flower fades, but the Word of our God will stand forever. (Isaiah 40:8)

WNEW NAME WRITTEN DOWN IN GLORY

I was lost in shame, could not get past my blame, Until He called my name. I’m so glad He changed me!Darkness held me down, but Jesus pulled me out.I’m no longer bound. I’m so glad He changed me!

See, I’m now a new creation in Christ. The old has gone; there’s new life. I live by faith, not by sight. There is a new name written down in glory, and it’s mine, yes, it’s mine! I’ve met the Author of my story, and He’s mine, yes, He’s mine!

Sin had left me blind, but Jesus opened my eyes. Now I can see the light. I’m so glad He changed me! Now I’m walking free. I’ve got the victory. See, it’s all over me. I’m so glad He changed me!I am who I am, because the I AM tells me who I am.

WLET THE REDEEMED

He led me out of the desert, brought me into His streams, River of living water turned my bitter into sweet. And all my burdens are lifted, You took the shackles off my feet. There’s no sound louder than a captive set free!

So let the redeemed of the Lord say so, sing of His promises ever more. Pour out your thankfulness, let it overflow, let the redeemed of the Lord say so.

There is joy in the morning springing up in my soul. There is life worth living ‘cause He calls me His own. And there’s a hallelujah after sweet victory. And there’s no sound louder than a captive set free! No, there’s no sound louder than a captive set free! You are my Deliverer, the freedom I’m livin’ in. You are my Deliverer, You are my promised land.I’ll never be alone anymore; how could my voice keep silent? You are my Deliverer; You are my Deliverer!

WTHANK YOU, JESUS, FOR THE BLOOD

I was a wretch; I remember who I was. I was lost, I was blind, I was running out of time. Sin separated, the breach was far too wide, But from the far side of the chasm, You held me in Your sight. So You made a way across the great divide, Left behind heaven’s throne to build it here inside. And there at the cross, You paid the debt I owed, Broke my chains, freed my soul — for the first I had hope.

Thank You, Jesus, for the blood applied. Thank You, Jesus, it has washed me white. Thank You, Jesus, You have saved my life, Brought me from the darkness into glorious light.

You took my place, laid inside my tomb of sin. You were buried for three days, and then You walked right out again. And now death has no sting and life has no end, For I have been transformed by the blood of the Lamb! There is nothing stronger Than the wonder working power of the blood, The blood that calls us sons and daughters; We are ransomed by our Father through the blood, the blood.Glory to His name! Glory to His name! There to my heart was the blood applied — glory to His name!Words and Music: Charity Gayle, Ryan Kennedy, Steven Musso, David Gentiles, Bryan McCleery; arr. Dan Galbraith

WNO. 413: JESUS! WHAT A FRIEND FOR SINNERS!

Jesus! What a friend for sinners! Jesus! Lover of my soul; Friends may fail me, foes assail me, He, my Savior, makes me whole.

Hallelujah! What a Savior! Hallelujah! What a friend! Saving, helping, keeping, loving, He is with me to the end.

Jesus! What a strength in weakness! Let me hide myself in Him. Tempted, tried, and sometimes failing, He, my strength, my victory wins.Jesus! What a help in sorrow! While the billows o’er me roll, Even when my heart is breaking, He, my comfort, helps my soul.Jesus! What a guide and keeper! While the tempest still is high, Storms about me, night o’ertakes me, He, my pilot, hears my cry.Jesus! I do now receive Him, more than all in Him I find; He hath granted me forgiveness, I am His, and He is mine.

Fall Congregational Prayer MeetingsLast week on CityServe Sunday, we were challenged to consider how we might engage our city with the gospel of Christ. A key way we can participate in our Father’s mission is through prayer. We invite you to join us for three monthly times of corporate prayer: September 8, October 6, and November 3. This guided congregational prayer time, led by our staff, will meet from 12:00-12:45 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Please join us to call upon the name of the Lord and seek His mercy and guidance for our church, our city, our country, and our world.

Caring Ministry Update

World Missions–Jamila: After a year of waiting to go to E. Asia, Jamila and her team flew to Thailand in late August. They will continue teaching English online to the university students they have been working with in E. Asia, while also taking Chinese classes themselves in Chiang Mai. This city has the largest Chinese population outside of E. Asia. They will stay until January 2022, before returning to the States to continue the visa process for entering E. Asia in the spring. Pray for her as their team learns more Chinese and has many opportunities to share Christ while in Chiang Mai. Pray they will be able to enter E. Asia next year and greet the students they’ve been teaching in person with the love of Christ and the hope of the gospel.Mission Memphis–Young Life Memphis: Young Life’s ministry serves hundreds of young men and women in Memphis by helping them find new hope amidst difficult circumstances through the Good News of Jesus Christ. Pray for God to enable leaders and volunteers to get the East High School Young Life Club meeting off the ground this semester, as well as for God to provide more volunteers to reach students returning to in-person learning this fall. Pray also for the Lord to raise up adults to serve with this ministry as board members. 2PC Ministry–AMEN Men’s Bible Study: AMEN is a rich time of Bible study and fellowship for men. Fostering a high commitment to God’s Word and one another, AMEN helps men build a strong foundation for a life of abiding in Christ, obeying Christ, and sharing Christ alongside other believers. Please pray for AMEN as it starts back this week. Pray for George, Barton, and Todd—that the LORD will use their teaching to give the participants a growing understanding of Christ and His Kingdom through the in-depth study of Matthew. Pray also for the AMEN committee as they faithfully serve this ministry through handling logistics on Thursday mornings.
