Empowering People Today for a Brighter Tomorrow
September 3, 2015
Dear Friends,Often, you don’t have the
opportunity to hear from funding
recipients about the positive
impact your monetary gifts are
making on their organization and
the people they serve. We are very
proud to partner with generous
sponsors and supporters in our
industry who make this change
possible. We are also thankful for
your contributions and the trust
you place in our Foundation to
put your gifts to work in local
communities where County
Materials has locations.
Frank Capra, director of the
classic fi lm It’s a Wonderful Life,
once said, “Play has been man’s
most useful preoccupation.” He
would have smiled to see how a
simple game of golf sponsored
by County Materials and our
philanthropic arm, the Sonnentag
Foundation, is contributing to
improving the lives of thousands
of disadvantaged individuals.
The pages of this book are fi lled
with more details about the ways
your gifts are making a real and
lasting diff erence on peoples’ lives.
None of this would be possible
without you.
Thank you! Big Brothers Big Sisters

The BBBS program matches at-risk children with mentors in the community.
Children participating in the program consistently show a reduction in risky behaviors,
delinquency and truancy. They also show signifi cant improvements in academic success, self-
esteem, and emotional stability. In addition, these children are more likely than their peers to
attend a four year college and to “pay it forward” by volunteering in their communities once they
reach adulthood.
As the premier mentoring organization, each chapter of Big Brothers Big Sisters works to fulfi ll a
shared mission of providing children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally
supported one-to-one mentor relationships that change their lives for the better. Combined, the
12 chapters supported by the Sonnentag Foundation in 2014 made a positive impact on more
than 4,300 “Littles”, ages 6 through 18, in communities across the country.

Since we began hosting a charity
golf outing in 2007, the Sonnentag
Foundation has donated more than
$465,650 to worthwhile community
programs and charitable organizations.
Last year, County Materials’ outing took
place September 8th, 2014. More than
$104,500 was raised by the event and
distributed to 15 charitable organizations
in locations where County Materials has
facilities. These organizations include
12 Wisconsin and Illinois chapters of
Big Brothers Big Sisters; Easter Seals
Wisconsin; the Women’s Community
of Wausau, WI; and Lake Cares Food
Pantry in Mount Dora, FL. Because
of your contributions in 2014, the
Sonnentag Foundation was able to help
support well over 27,000 disadvantaged
individuals and their families!
We are excited to share how these
funds are being used to make a very
real diff erence for children, families and
people in the communities where County
Materials has locations.

Easter Seals WisconsinEaster Seals Wisconsin, in Madison, is using Charity Golf Outing contributions to fund their Wisconsin Elks/Easter Seals Respite Camp
and Camp Wawbeek in Wisconsin Dells. These programs help to increase independence, maximize opportunities, minimize barriers,
and enhance the quality of life for people with disabilities in Wisconsin.
Since 1938, Camp Wawbeek has been fostering lifelong friendships and helping to create year-round social support for children and
adults with physical and cognitive disabilities. It’s the oldest continually-operating Easter Seals camp in the U.S. While campers challenge
themselves in the barrier-free environment, parents and caregivers can enjoy a break from caring for their loved one to recharge.
Caring for a child with a severe or complex disability who requires around the clock care can be stressful. The break from caregiving
provided by the Respite Camp is of vital importance. Respite sessions are off ered year-round, including speciality sessions for campers
with Asperger Syndrome or other high-functioning autism.
Veterans Family Weekends are also held at Camp Wawbeek focusing on family togetherness, fun and accessible outdoor recreation.
Along with sports, games, fi shing and challenging ropes courses, veterans and their familes particiate in group sessions to discuss
common issues and share resources.
Easter Seals Wisconsin continues to advocate for children, adults and families that struggle with the challenges of disabilities and
deliver life changing solutions and experiences for them. Camp Wawbeek and Respite Camp served record numbers of campers in the
past year. Nearly 816 children and adults with severe disabilities were served by their Respite Program, and 1,280 campers enjoyed
Camp Wawbeek.

County Materials’ Helps Build Pool for Easter Seals Camp WawbeekHundreds of children and adults with disabilities are enjoying
the benefi ts of a state-of-the-art therapeutic swimming pool
that was funded in part to a donation from the Sonnentag
Foundation. The Foundation’s monetary donation allowed
Easter Seals Wisconsin to obtain 154 yards of ready mix
concrete from County Materials for the construction of the
new 2,524 sq ft outdoor pool at Easter Seals’ Camp Wawbeek
in Wisconsin Dells. Extra material was used to build the pool
deck and/or surrounding structure.
“The pool is a highlight of the camp experience for most of the
campers. It allows people with disabilities to have a freedom
they can’t experience in any other way,” says Easter Seals
President and CEO Christine Fessler. She adds that the water
is highly therapeutic for many of the campers, including those
with autism. “It has both stimulating and calming qualities. If
you were to poll the campers, I think you’d overwhelmingly
fi nd that it is their favorite activity.”
The new pool replaced the original camp pool, built in
1959. The upgraded facility includes a number of features
specifi cally designed to meet the needs of campers with
disabilities. One of these is a zero-entry incline, which will
enable many campers to access the pool without assistance.
A lift access is available, along with basketball hoops, a
cascading fountain, and built-in benches that allow campers
to rest and socialize in the water.
The pool was completed in mid-May, 2014 in plenty of time to
accommodate the fi rst wave of campers arriving for summer
camp sessions in early June 2014.
Camp Wawbeek’s new pool was offi cially dedicated on July 17,
2014, with the help of numerous campers, counselors and others
who helped make the project a success!

The Women’s Community

Lake Cares Food Pantry is located in Mount Dora, Florida. It has established itself as a strategic resource to support the needs of
hungry families hit by unforeseen and unfortunate circumstances. The organization also provides resources and support to the elderly

Changing Lives andCommunities Through EducationThe Sonnentag Foundation is a strong advocate for continuing education. Our goal is to inspire the next
generation and encourage young people who want to pursue studies and careers, especially in the construction
and landscape industry. We believe scholarships are not only helping to change the lives of deserving students
and their families, but also local communities by investing in our future workforce, entreprenuers and leaders.
The Sonnentag Foundation established our scholarship program in 2000 specifi cally to assist children of County
Materials’ (Central Processing) employees who plan to continue their education in college. Students can apply
for one $1,500 scholarship for full-time study at an accredited institution and in a fi eld of study of the student’s
choice. Since its inception, nearly $221,000 in scholarships have been awarded. The program supports a wide
range of educational options, including vocational and technical training, and associate and bachelor’s degrees.
Giving Back to CommunitiesThe Sonnentag Foundation’s philanthropic interests are strategically focused on supporting programs and
projects that empower and inspire people.
Preference is given to regional construction and landscape oriented projects that serve the broader community
in locations where County Materials has major facilities. The following are just a few examples of the many local
and regional community projects our Foundation frequently supports:
• Habitat for Humanity homes
• Youth baseball/softball
dugouts and structures
• Community gardens and
walking trails
• Masonry apprenticeship and
building trades courses
• Veteran monuments
• Playground sand
• Park and recreation
