MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear St. Apollinaris Catholic School Families,

We praise you, Lord, for autumn: for falling temperatures and morning chill,

trees turned gold and red, brown and orange, falling leaves and blowing leaves,

the smell of burning leaves, the joy of leaf-pile jumping.

We praise you, Lord, for autumn: the interplay of outside temperatures

and inside warmth, the promise of cider and pumpkin bread,

the blessing of blankets and sweaters.

We praise you, Lord, for autumn: the beauty and hope in the change of season,

the promise that the coming of autumn heralds another ending,

a new beginning, and the wonder of another winter,

another spring, another summer,

yet to come.

Amen

We hear your great ideas!

Our families have the best ideas! Just this week, we have answered and implemented three suggestions that came from our student and parent community:

1) Student who need extra help on homework and/or understanding a concept: All teachers will be available for tutoring Monday and Thursday from dismissal to 3:30pm. You can pick your child up from the class or the teacher will walk your student over to extended care. All teachers will be in their homeroom classroom. Mr. Tomsic, Senora Funk and Miss Reilly will be in the library. Ms. Campisi will be in the resource room, Mrs. Kempkey will be in the office adjacent to the school office and Mrs. Andrews will be in her classroom in the convent. This is another great service we have brought to St. A’s thanks to your ideas!

2) Our amazing 6th grade girls had a bake sale for the Mexico Earthquake Relief Fund. Also, 6th grader Kane Williams organized a popsicle drive to the victims of these disasters. I am so proud of our students.

3) 1st grade will now have an assistant in the classroom FULLTIME! With a small number of students in Mrs. Kempkey’s class, we originally had a part time assistant scheduled. This new change has already started!

Keep those great ideas coming! We listen to you!!!

Peace Be with you!

Athletic Notes Volleyball News The 5th/6th grade girl’s volleyball team played so much better this week at St. Rose. Coach Wahle thinks it had something to do with the donuts that Pami's parents brought. The first game against St. John's Catholic went back and forth with St. John's winning 27-25 and 25-22. Michelle and Gianna had some great serving streaks. The girls played well this time against St. Rose losing 25-19 and 25-9. Sam and Jessie's serves were winners while Malori and Andrea were bumping things over. The third match we were victorious beating St. Vincent's easily 25-13 and 25-9. Ava and Ella served for 16 of the 25 points in the first game and Ava went on to serve for 14 of the 25 in the 2nd game. The girls are really working well as a team and improving every game! The 7th grade girl’s team had an exciting weekend of volleyball, winning matches against both St. Eugene’s and St. Helena Montesorri. The wins were a result of tremendous teamwork with every single player scoring points and contributing to a near impenetrable defense. The first match against St. Eugene’s started slowly, dropping the first game 18-25 despite strong serving from Maria, Jillian and Sofia L. The girls won the second game 25-17 with powerful serving from Hilary and Hannah, including a run of 7 serves from Hilary to end the game. Stellar defense from Abigail, Sophia N., Dominique and Kendall and timely hits from Lanai and Vanessa successfully stymied the St. Eugene’s team. The third game was won 15-9 with an onslaught of serves from Sofia L., Gabrielle and Adriana. Solid defensive efforts from every member of the team contributed in this match, resulting in a well-deserved win. The second match against St. Helena Montessori went very well, winning the first game 25-10 and the second game 25-11. Solid serving from Sofia L, Maria, Gabrielle, Lizzie and Rachel led the way in game one and salvoes of serves in the second game from Hannah, Kendall and Hilary sealed the match. Again all around defense from the entire team prevented St. Helena Montessori from mounting any effective offense. The 8th grade girl’s team continues to dig down deep and battle for wins. The girls played St. John’s Healdsburg this past Saturday and Blue Oak this past Monday evening. The girls lost two tough games against SJH, both 15-25. The girls rallied back Monday night winning their first game against Blue Oak 25-10, then lost a close second game 23-25 and ultimately losing the third game with another close score of 12-15. Coach Reynolds appreciates the team’s tenacity and determination and looks forward to closing out the last few games with great teamwork and spirit! Please come out and support our girls this weekend at the following games: 5th/6th grade vs. SJL, SJH and SF beginning at 9:00am @ St. A’s 7th grade vs. SJL and SJH beginning at 9:45am @ St. John’s Healdsburg 8th grade vs. SR and SM beginning at 12:45pm @ St. Rose
