SESSION FOUR: MODERATOR

MARY SULLIVAN$10B in Sales, 35-year Expert

Walk-up song — Friends In Low Places by Garth Brooks

With an illustrious 35-year real estate and finance career and more than $10 billion in transaction production, Mary Sullivan is, without question, one of the most successful – if not the most successful – commercial real estate professionals in Denver’s history – woman or man.

Entering the investment sales business in 1981, there were very few, if any, women in the business and there was certainly no thought of promotion and career path. But for Sullivan, commissioned investment sales created the path to her professional and financial goals. “I wasn’t going to pin my financial goals on marrying a man to do it for me,” she said.

Armed with a degree in accounting from the University of Colorado, Sullivan chose her path in an area of real estate that had not been done before – working with pension funds and allocating dollars to commer-cial real estate investments. “Because of my accounting background, I knew how to make it happen and it was just something others couldn’t and weren’t doing at that time. It terrified me that I had landed a job with a high-ticket product and now it was completely up to me to achieve my goals, completely in my hands and yes, it scared the living daylights out of me.”

From the earliest stages of her career to the very end, there were always countless obstacles for a woman in the CRE industry. While there were a handful of male supporters, there were far more naysayers, people who would undermine, disparage, belittle and denigrate the work and the person. Sullivan simply stayed focused on her goals and created what she calls her own “unfair advantage” which she defines as “a passionate and focused work ethic, drive, tenacity and willingness to always represent my clients’ best interests, even if it meant losing a deal.”

For Sullivan, it was a phenomenal means to an end and, the end is pretty good.

Vote No On Amendment 73Amendment 73 would increase the corporate tax rate by 30% and income tax increase for joint filers at $150,000 or more. Homeowners would also see a property tax increase. The measure aims to raise $1.6B for education but without any spending parameters; it’s a blank check. Vote No on 73.

Vote Yes on Y & ZBallot items Y & Z will make CO a model for putting fair and effective representation at the forefront of the congressional and legislative redistricting process. It will give more Coloradans a voice and we think this will be good for business. Vote Yes on Y & Z.

Vote No On Proposition 112Proposition 112 is a ban on oil and gas exploration in disguise. It would cost the state over 121,000 jobs and nearly $1B in revenue over the next decade. $258M would be lost in year one alone. Vote No On Proposition 112.
