Bible Study on “Ephesians – Discover your Inheritance” with Fr. TeiloAll are invited to attend an 8-session bible study on St. Paul’s Letter to the Ephesians.

This letter reveals many remarkable gifts that we as Christians are given in the Church and shows us the great inheritance that waits us

as sons and daughters, adopted fully into the family of God. It reveals how God’s great love

for us can transform our daily lives – if we allow it.

Join Fr. Teilo as he facilitates Jeff Cavins – Ephesians –

Discover your Inheritance beginning September 14, on Thursday evenings at

6:30pm in the Adult Ed Center. Cost: $20.00pays for the study guide.

Our Lady of Fatima (Part 6)October 13, 1917 was the final apparition at Fatima, and is commonly known as “The Miracle of the Sun.” The prediction of the miracle caused intense speculation throughout Portugal, and tens of thousands of people descended on the Cova despite a lashing rain storm. The children reached the Holm Oak tree around noon and saw the customary flash of light as Our Lady appeared. As always, Lucia asked, “What do you want from me?” Our Lady responded, “I want a chapel to be built here in my honor. I am the Lady of the Rosary. Continue always to pray the Rosary every day. The war is going to end, and the soldiers will soon return to their homes.”Lucia made requests for cures, conversions, and other things. Our Lady replied, “Some yes, but not others. They must amend their lives and ask forgiveness for their sins.” Our Lady then grew very sad and said: “Do not offend the Lord our God anymore, because He is already so much offended.” Then opening her hands, she made them reflect on the sun and as she ascended, the reflection of her own light projected on the sun itself. After she disappeared, as the people were witnessing the great miracle that had been predicted, the children saw the visions predicted in September: Our Lord, Our Lady of Sorrows, Our Lady of Carmel, and St. Joseph with the child Jesus blessing the world. Reflection: Next to the Liturgical Prayer of the Holy Mass, the Rosary is the most powerful prayer. Is the Rosary part of my daily prayer?

A Note From Our Pastor

IS THERE SUCH A THING AS SIN?

“The greatest sin today is that men have lost the sense of sin” (Pope Pius XII)

Today we often hear it repeatedly said that there is a diminishing sense of sin in modern times to the extend that to say that we live in troubled times of an unprecedented magnitude might sound as an understatement. But this can be rather puzzling, because looking at the past century the world has witnessed perhaps some of the greatest atrocities of all times: It has witnessed terrible genocides, devastation of cities by nuclear bombs, terrorisms of unprecedented scale, widespread destruction of the environment and the millions of unborn children lost to abortion. Not only that, we have also witnessed rich countries becoming richer and wasting food while millions of others becoming poorer and starving, etc. How is it that we have a diminished sense of sin?

Whereas that is true of the past century, even today we witness the same atrocities and worse, in every part of the world, and we now have the ability to know about them as soon as they happen through social media. These sins of the world are so vast that our own sins seem not only insignificant but also “normal” compared to them. If we have a diminished sense of sin, it is not because we think we are better than before; it is because these sins have become normal. It is necessary therefore, to reflect on this state of affairs, because it is the breeding ground for the extensive evil and sin we are witnessing today.

Whereas it is true that our environment is saturated with grounds that make sinning so normal and easy, the real root cause of sin lies in our diminished sense of God, who is the only true source of our happiness and our seeking this happiness elsewhere. As a result, we sadly fall short of putting God first in our lives thereby leading to the unhappiness we witness today.

In a bid to attain true happiness after expelling God from our lives, from our schools and from our country and from the public square, we create alternatives from sources that have none to provide. We create pleasure in its various forms, we create power, we create a false sense of invincibility which ultimately leave us even more empty and unhappy. This is made worse by the “tyranny” of the social media that relentlessly communicate these forms of idolatry by elevating the hollywoods of this world to sacred cathedrals. It is a result of this, that we can unfortunately answer the question posed in the title of this article: Is there such a thing as sin?…in the affirmative and concur with Pope Pius XII that: The greatest sin today is that men have lost the sense of sin.

Therefore, the only viable solution to this decadent degeneration of our society into further destruction is through the return to God and in recognizing that expelling God from our affairs leads to unhappiness. It is recognizing that ignoring or replacing God with things is not only a futile effort at happiness, but the worst form of idolatry and therefore, sin.

In Christ,

Fr. Robert

LiturgyWeekly Reflection on the Readings

September 24, 201725th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Call to Prayer: We begin in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

Amen.First Reading: Isaiah 55:6-9Second Reading: Philippians 1:20C-24, 27AGospel: Matthew 20:1-16AJesus told his disciples this parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out at dawn to hire laborers for his vineyard. After agreeing with them for the usual daily wage, he sent them into his vineyard. Going out about nine o’clock, the landowner saw others standing idle in the marketplace, and he said to them, ‘You too go into my vineyard, and I will give you what is just.’ So they went off. And he went out again around noon, and around three o’clock, and did likewise. Going out about five o’clock, the landowner found others standing around, and said to them, ‘Why do you stand here idle all day?’ They answered, ‘Because no one has hired us.’ He said to them, ‘You too go into my vineyard.’ When it was evening the owner of the vineyard said to his foreman, ‘Summon the laborers and give them their pay, beginning with the last and ending with the first.’ When those who had started about five o’clock came, each received the usual daily wage. So when the first came, they thought that they would receive more, but each of them also got the usual wage. And on receiving it they grumbled against the landowner, saying, ‘These last ones worked only one hour, and you have made them equal to us, who bore the day’s burden and the heat.’ He said to one of them in reply, ‘My friend, I am not cheating you.Did you not agree with me for the usual daily wage? Take what is yours and go. What if I wish to give this last one the same as you? Or am I not free to do as I wish with my own money? Are you envious because I am generous?’Thus, the last will be first, and the first will be last.”
