St. Ann’s Parish 25th Sunday in Ordinary Time September 24, 2017
As you know, last Sunday we had boxes available so that you could make donations to support the victims of Hurricane Irma. Many of you were most generous in your gift, and everyone is grateful for that. But I’d like to point out one person in particular: One of our children, Sofia Jordau, set up a lemonade stand at a picnic and raised $30. Instead of keeping it, she donated it to Hurricane Irma relief! I was so touched by that. Her sacrifice of what is a lot of money for a child is heart-warming. Here we see the scriptures being fulfilled: “and a little child shall lead them!” (Is 11:6)
Two Sundays ago, I mentioned at Mass and in the bulletin that I wanted to create a family photo album that I can bring into chapel with me so that I could pray for our families one-by-one with a picture of you in front of me and any intentions you wanted me particularly to remember. We had volunteers in Fr. Anthony Hall after Mass taking photos of anyone who needed a recent photo. I am grateful for the photos that many of you have given me. Please keep them coming in! Don’t worry if your picture is not flattering; no one else is going to see it. Also, if you could give me a more recent picture of yourself which shows you as you look today I would appreciate it. Some parishioners are giving me photos that showed you decades ago, and while they may be showing you at your best, they don’t help me know who you are today. So please try and use current photos. Let’s get all families represented in our album so I can pray for all of you by name!
Finally, last Saturday we had the privilege of having several relics from the life of St. Pio of Pietrelcina here at St. Ann’s for Mass. We had a good crowd show up and pray before the relics. I am grateful to the St. Pio Foundation and its leader, Luciano Lamonarca, for asking me if we could bring the relics here for Mass. I found it personally moving to have them here, and I hope you did too!
