September 2019
Welcome back everyone.
Was your summer too
short? Mine was! Now be-
gins a new ASPE year. Our
Product Show is happening
in October and our holiday
party in December are two
events to look forward too.
New this year, David Raymond, our
chapter AYP liaison has started to work
on an event for ASPE Young Professionals
(AYP). The event will be similar to the
Women of ASPE (WOA) event held last
spring.
The Chapter is looking for members to
help with the Ambassador program. The
program is to help new member joining
our chapter to learning about our chap-
ter, where meetings are held, who to
contact for assistance, and what our
chapter has to offer. If you are interest-
ed, contact a board member.
The Chapter is looking for volunteers who
want to give back to the Society. This
can be as a member of the golf commit-
tee, product show committee, AYP com-
mittee, WOA committee, and Board posi-
tions. If you want to volunteer, we have
a position you can help with.
I look forward to seeing you at the Sep-
tember 26 dinner meeting at Maggiano’s
Little Italy Cherry Hill, NJ. The topic will be
Vacuum wastewater systems.

TECHNICAL CORNER Welcome back!
Your Philadelphia ASPE Board hopes that everyone had a fantastic summer and that you are
ready for an action-packed year.
The hot topic is the implementation of the 2018 Philadelphia Plumbing Code. On Tuesday,
October 1st the City of Philadelphia will adopt the new code. The new code was signed into
law on July 24, 2019 thus marking the first time the code has undergone significant changes
since 1995. The new code provides for the modernization of materials, products and methods
of construction. The new code is based upon the 2018 International Plumbing Code. As of
October 1st, the Department of Licenses and Inspections will allow a grace period and permit
the designer to choose to have their project reviewed under the 2004 or 2018 Philadelphia Plumbing Code;
however, this will terminate on March 31, 2020. All permit applications filed on or after April 1, 2020 will be
reviewed under the new 2018 code. For an extensive review of the NEW 2018 Philadelphia Plumbing Code,
please attend our seminar at the Philly ASPE Product Show on Thursday, October 17th.
Upcoming events and topics for your review:
Plumbing Design School (Plumbing I & II): runs from September 9th thru December 16th. Classes
are held on Mondays at 6:30pm at the Clarion Hotel in Essington. For further information,
please visit our website at www.aspephila.org/education.htm or contact Marianne Bjonnes

WOMEN OF ASPE
Laura Simons
I hope everyone had a great summer! I have already been brainstorming
about our second WOA event. I would like to see even more women come
out and get involved with our chapter. I am planning a fall event for our
next activity. We had a great time throwing axes, but I’m looking at new
ideas for the fall event. Some ideas so far: indoor skydiving, trampoline
park, escape room, laser tag, Top Golf, skeet shooting, and go-kart racing.
I will be sending out a group email to my WOA contacts to poll the group.
Please continue to spread the word about the WOA Philly Chapter and pass along my contact
information to anyone that you think may be interested in future events!
For more information on WOA visit aspe.org/woa or email me at

centers and medical-surgical vacuum pumps for delivering medical gases throughout the
facility. These products serve a fundamental role in medical gas delivery systems by regu-
lating and monitoring the flow of medical gases. They are typically installed during con-
struction or renovation of a health care facility, and are built as an integral part of the fa-
cility's physical plant. Stop by and speak with Dan Moeller who is an ASSE 6030 Verifier and
learn from his 30 years of experience in medical gas systems and equipment.
The chapter is also in the process of updating the Affiliate section our website, so please
check out your listing http://aspephila.org/affiliate.htm and let me know of any correc-
tions that need to be made. Our tabletops are booked through January 2020 and going
fast, reach out to me to reserve a tabletop presentation in the Spring.
