Our singing on Sunday is about pro- claiming magnificent truth about God’s character and mighty works (Psalm 150:2), and about making music in our hearts to the Lord together as his people (Ephesians 5:19). What do we do when our heart does not match the words we are singing? We sing with all our might as a prayer of faith, trusting God to use these very words to match our heads with our hearts and bring about the truth we are singing. This is not hypocrisy. It is to borrow a phrase from Augustine one of God’s ordained means “to create what he commands.” It is an honest assessment of the deficiencies of our hearts, and a declaration of faith in the God who raises our dead affections to new life. If we are willing to give grace-driven effort to pray for God’s help and to trust him in our singing, then the song itself becomes a faith-creating agent in our own sanctification. Therefore, we cry, “I have no longings for another! O God help me long for you above all else!” This is not futile; it is faith. Preparing for worship changes our experience of worship. One way to do that is to arrive before worship starts, so that you can be settled, expecting to encounter God's Presence during this sacred hour. In semi- nary, during one class, we were encouraged to arrive at our individual churches at least 15 minutes be- fore the beginning of the service and to prepare for worship. My professor told us to enter the sanctuary quietly and then spend the 15 minutes not making small talk but by praying to God and also reading thru the passage that the pastor would be preaching from. I did this for about 2 months and it was an amazing experience and something that I learned from. Maybe you have a different suggestion on how to prepare for worship. If you have another favorite way to prepare for worship, I'd love to hear about it. Please share your ideas by emailing me or sending me a text. We want to keep our focus on worshiping God, so that we go forward into the day and week ahead ready to be the Presence of God, alive in our world. See you on Sunday mornings!

Welcome to Worship!

Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m., we have this wonderfully unique hour of the

week called worship. We gather together as a community to worship God with

music, Scripture, prayer, a sermon and fellowship. Worship renews us, chal-

lenges us, and invites us to live our faith with joy. I know that I am changed by

worship, and that hour prepares us all to practice the Presence of God in our

lives.

Worship would not be complete with-

out you! I encourage you to come each

week and be a part of worship. And as

you prepare for worship each week, we

encourage you to pray for all those who

help create the worship experience:

pastors, choirs, musicians, leaders of children's message, the staff that prepares the bulletins and slides,

the decorating committee, ushers and greeters, and those who make sure coffee is waiting for us. Lots of

people volunteer to help craft a time of worship! Your prayers bless the worship leaders and praying

prepares us for worship. Sending a text, email, or note saying, "I'm praying for you this week," will

enrich us all.

Singing is a big part of the worship service. But, why do we sing? Our singing on Sunday is about pro-

claiming magnificent truth about God’s character and mighty works (Psalm 150:2), and about making

music in our hearts to the Lord together as his people (Ephesians 5:19). What do we do when our heart

does not match the words we are singing? We sing with all our might as a prayer of faith, trusting God to

use these very words to match our heads with our hearts and bring about the truth we are singing.

This is not hypocrisy. It is — to borrow a phrase from Augustine — one of God’s ordained means “to

create what he commands.” It is an honest assessment of the deficiencies of our hearts, and a declaration

of faith in the God who raises our dead affections to new life. If we are willing to give grace-driven effort

to pray for God’s help and to trust him in our singing, then the song itself becomes a faith-creating agent

in our own sanctification.

Therefore, we cry, “I have no longings for another! O God help me long for you above all else!” This is

not futile; it is faith.

Preparing for worship changes our experience of worship. One way to do that is to arrive before worship

starts, so that you can be settled, expecting to encounter God's Presence during this sacred hour. In semi-

nary, during one class, we were encouraged to arrive at our individual churches at least 15 minutes be-

fore the beginning of the service and to prepare for worship. My professor told us to enter the sanctuary

quietly and then spend the 15 minutes not making small talk but by praying to God and also reading thru

the passage that the pastor would be preaching from. I did this for about 2 months and it was an amazing

experience and something that I learned from. Maybe you have a different suggestion on how to prepare

for worship. If you have another favorite way to prepare for worship, I'd love to hear about it. Please

share your ideas by emailing me or sending me a text.

We want to keep our focus on worshiping God, so that we go forward into the day and week ahead ready

to be the Presence of God, alive in our world. See you on Sunday mornings!

Are You Ready to Give an Answer?

Do you remember as a little “youngster” when the teacher would call

on you to answer the question you were supposed to know? All of a

sudden you broke into a cold sweat and your skin felt clammy, your

mouth got really dry like the hot summer wind and your stomach

didn’t feel so well and it started to toss and turn and you felt light

headed. You wanted to be anywhere but sitting in that classroom. Of

course, if we knew the material that the question pertained to, no

problems, right. We are to study to show we can answer the question.

As we grow older we have questions that we have to answer and some days we feel just like

that day in class. As I think about this little scenario, I am reminded about what it says in the

Bible in II Timothy 2:15, “Study and be eager to do your upmost to present yourself to God

approved, tested by trail, a workman who has no cause to be ashamed, correctly analyzing and

accurately dividing, rightly handling and skillfully teaching the Word of God.”

I believe that each one of us God sees as precious and valuable, the head and not the tail,

above and not beneath, victorious, champions for Him and sons and daughter. But, if we do

not study, set ourselves apart, examine ourselves before God, how can we be a true workman

for the Kingdom of God. There will come a day where we will give an account for what we

have done and what we did not do. Will we feel like that little boy or girl sitting in the class-

room and will we have all those senses coming flooding over us again. This time, it will not

be a teacher we will have to respond to but the “Maker of Heaven and Earth.”

There is a great scripture in I Peter 3:15 that says, “But in your hearts set Christ apart as holy

and acknowledge Him as Lord. Always be ready to give a logical defense to anyone who asks

you to account for the hope that is in you, but do it courteously and respectfully.” The only

way we can do this is to know who we are in Christ Jesus. We all have to be prayed up, stud-

ied up and in right fellowship with our Heavenly Father, then we can do as I Peter 3:15 says.

Be ready, be diligent, be on guard against the devil who wants to fill our lives with artificial

junk to keep us busy and out of true fellowship with God.

The Bible says that “we are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a dedicated nation, to do won-

derful deeds and display the virtues and perfections in Him who called you out of darkness

and into His marvelous light.” I Peter 2:9. God has given us the tools to be ready in season to

give the answers according to II Timothy and by His Spirit to have the confidence and knowl-

edge to answer any man.

Let us run the race that God has set before us to be the workman

and servants He has called us to be to further the Kingdom of God

and set the captives free. That little “Youngster” doesn’t have to

walk in fear but walk in victory and we can and will see ourselves

the same way as God sees us…More than conquers!!!

Medlin’s Ministry Message

Looking Forward

Looking Back

During the month of August, we are getting back into the swing of the school year and our stu-

dents are transitioning into new chapters of life! It has been an emotional month as we have seen so

many of our seniors transitioning into College and the military. Although I am sad to see our youth

group missing many of the friends I have grown to love and value over the last few years, I know the

Lord has new friends that he is bringing into our church each and every week that God has called us to

impact with the gospel. So, on August 12th, we had a Senior Sendoff night at the youth group where we

prayed Blessing over the seniors and sent them off to carry the gospel where ever the Lord leads them!

Since then, we have been praying for our remaining students like crazy! Over the summer, peo-

ple get busy and youth group got fewer kids attending, so we prayed God would bring new students to

youth group as well as bring back some of the students we have been missing. And praise God, this

month our Junior and Senior High youth groups are growing again. We have had our students inviting

new friends to youth group as well as getting back some of the kids we have been missing over the

summer. This has enabled us to share God’s word with more and more people and I hope that we keep

growing! Our next prayer was been that God would help them to learn to worship the Lord in reverence

and take the time of seeking God seriously.

Well as I write this newsletter, I await what God is going to do for our High School group in

answering this prayer but he has answered powerfully with our Junior High. On Wednesday, the 29th

we talked with the kids about the Holiness of God and how when Isaiah met God in Isaiah chapter 6

he was immediately aware of the sinfulness in his life as He faced a Holy God. After our message I

encouraged our students to meet with God like Isaiah did and confess their sin personally to Him in

prayer. As we came back together to worship after our time of confession, I have rarely ever seen our

students have such reverence before the Lord. Kids were singing out, obviously focusing on the words

they were singing. Others were becoming overwhelmed with emotion, tears flowing, and praying to-

gether and confessing sins to God as we worshipped. And others, just as emotional, were praying to

God thanking Him for His overwhelming love for us, despite our worth. This REALLY happened with

our junior high kids, (the same ones I had to tell not to jump out the windows at Camp this summer)

and it was in response to God answering prayer. So I hope that you will join me in praising God for his

goodness to our youth and continue praying that he would bless them in new ways.

We have some awesome events coming up this year for our teens and I am excited to see God work in

these events to shape the lives of our young people for Christ. Here are the events you should be look-

ing out for soon!

Prairie Central Flag Pole. Students will get an opportunity to stand out as Christians as well as put their

faith in God to act in prayer. It is an international day of prayer where students all over the world will

pray together that exact hour! Make sure your kid gets there!

“There is More” Conference- This Student Conference will be a 2 day event that is absolutely crazy

fun as well as have a powerful gospel message will be Friday and Saturday October 12th-13th. Mark

your calendars for all Junior High and High school students! It will be in Pontiac IL at Pontiac Bible

Church. I have been working closely with Josh Anderson (Youth Pastor at Pontiac Bible Church) plan-

ning this event with his student leadership team and this I going to be a life changing event for many

kids in our area!

See You at the Pole (SYATP) is an annual gathering of Christian students of all

ages at a flagpole in front of their local school for prayer, scripture-reading and

hymn singing, during the early morning before school starts. The American SYATP events occur

on the 4th Wed of September. The events began in 1990 in the US, where public schools cannot

sponsor prayers and some Christians see public schools as hostile to Christian students. It has

grown by word of mouth, announcements at youth rallies, churches & the Internet and now occurs

Ken Masuda opened our devotion time by sharing an article about the 55 bodies

that North Korea is returning to the United States. We honored their memory by

playing the national anthem.

Fred Kilcullen opened the meeting with a prayer and we recognized the

youngster of our group, Pastor Josh, for his upcoming wedding anniversary to Nicole. It will be 4 yrs

of wedded bliss on August 23rd. We also recognized a couple that have been married a few years

more than that. Ken & Bea Masuda will be celebrating their 54th wedding anniversary on Aug 29th.

We also recognized our birthday girl, Evelyn Yoder, who will be celebrating her birthday Aug 31st.

We then had our delicious potluck followed by a long time of just visiting and catching up on

the latest news. We invite everyone to join us on the first Tuesday of each month. Next potluck will be

Do you ever wonder who you are sitting by in church? Have you ever heard an announcement and can’t quite put a face to the name mentioned? Are you new to our church?

Have you been going here forever and wish you had a way to put all the new names and faces together? Well, help is on the way!

We are producing a NEW pictorial directory for our church through Lifetouch. There is NO COST to you or to the church to have your family’s photo taken, AND you will get a complimentary 8×10 color portrait and a hard copy directory for participating. You will be able to view your images electronically immediately after you are photographed and have the opportu-nity to purchase additional prints. There is no pressure to purchase anything additional and you still get the free 8×10. Discount coupons are available from the church office so don’t forget to get some if you plan to order. And we are told that all ordered prints will be back in time for holiday giving. As well as using this directory as a “name to face” tool it will have a listing of our church families with addresses and home & cell phone numbers.

To make this a success we need everyone to participate by having their family photographed — even if you have no intention of purchasing additional prints.
