Canada has been using “class 4” to distinguish sterilization products that have three internal/

external indicators: time, temperature, and presence of steam. The US uses “type 4” to indicate the same class of products. Canada is going toward a unified system of calling all “class 4” products “type 4” in order to avoid confusion between American and Canadian

sterilization products and markets.
