September 2018 Employee Newsletter AUGUST NEW HIRES In August we welcomed new employees Michael R. Mitchell (8/13) WTP Operator Trainee “D” and Brian A. Knellinger (8/25) Police Recruit/ Sponsorship. Be sure to say hello if you see them around! RETIRE / LEAVE On August 12 th Sgt. Ken Zabrusky retired after 40 years with the police department. Sgt. Zabrusky we THANK YOU for your service! On August 24 th , we also said goodbye to Senior Accounting Technician Ken Burger after 12 years with the City. The CCPD National Night Out celebration was a big success! Thanks to everyone who helped with the event and a big thank you to Deputy Chief Cooper who was a real sport in the dunk tank! We had a bigger attendance this year with around 630 participants and about 155 participants for the Neighborhood Watch parties. The CCPD Explorers and one of our other volunteers handed around a thousand flyers to people before the event so a big thanks to them. Also a very BIG thank you to the Rangers; Vicky, Jim, and Doug. You guys were there to haul things, help set-up, man the event, and take down. You guys rock!! Thanks Vicky for getting all of the volunteers together!! We had around 10 of our CCPD volunteers there helping out also. There will be a Kids Zone, Food Trucks, and Beer Garden with entertainment by musical guest Groove-a-Licious. Mayor Preston Troutman will conduct the ribbon cutting of the new Rotary Pavilion at 5pm. All ages are welcome to this free community event! Coffee with a Cop is 8:30–9:30am on Friday, September 14 th at Rollers Bakery. Saturday, September 29 th is Bike Your Park Day. Register at bikeyourparkday.org and get out and enjoy your parks and public lands! CCPD National Night Out 40 Years of Service City Council and the Cañon City Police Department’s command staff recognized Sgt. Ken Zabrusky upon his retirement from 40 years of service during the August 6 th regular city council meeting. Keeping Our Streets Safe City Council also recognized Street Superintendent Tony Falgien and his crew for ‘outstanding response’ to severe weather conditions and keeping roads safe for citizens. Thank you Joel Biemiller, Dale Crane, Tony Falgien, Logan Green, Carl Hall, Les Hilburn, Derrick Holt, Mykel Kroll, Daniel Lambrecht, Bill Lennox, Mark Mitchell, Mike Schrader and Bill Strobel.
