Perhaps I have two left feet. It doesn’t take a banana peel to make me stumble; I could trip over a gum wrapper. It’s only by the grace of God none of my falls have been serious, but I am learning to be particularly cautious, especially since acquiring a walking companion. Her name is Mia, a tiny mixed breed of Maltese and poodle.

Mia and I set out early in the morning to beat the heat of the day. The walking route is much different from my route in Mexico. Near the mission, uneven surfaces are the norm and if I fell, it would be into powdery dirt. Here there is a concrete jungle and many obstacles for which I need to watch out.

First is the dog herself. She is a fairly good walker and great pace-setter, but sometimes she will get between my feet. I hold her on a tight leash out from my body to control how close she gets to me. Then, there are the bicyclists who use

the sidewalk when the bike trail is right beside them. I have learned to walk close to the edge of the path because many cyclists don’t give warning when they come up from behind. I have to cross the street at several traffic lights. I always wait for the little white man to appear on the signal, but motorists seem expert in judging whether they have time to make their turn before I step into the crosswalk. Of course, I have to watch out for my own feet. If I’m just shuffling along, I may catch my toe in a crack in the sidewalk.

Being watchful during my morning walks reminds me how much more important it is to watch out for obstacles on my spiritual journey. I love my little dog, Mia, but sometimes she trips me up. Is there something in my spiritual life that I love but may need to distance myself from in order to walk safely on the pathway of life? Is it a habit, hang-up, or possession? Is it impulse buying or wasting my devotion time surfing Facebook? Is it just plain busyness?

The next obstacles are bigger. Being hit by a cyclist terrifies me as I visualize falling and crushing the dog. Swift, unseen hazards bombard us relentlessly. In me, they rise up in pride or self-sufficiency, a judgmental attitude or a bitter retort. Oh, how quickly I would be laid out flat but for the mercy of Christ and His Spirit who convict me and lead me to repentance.

Even more frightening is the thought of being hit by a car when I have the right-of-way to cross the street. In this case, I need to watch out lest I fall into a pit of raging anger. (I’m already angry at the cyclist!) Thank You, Jesus, that You enable me to watch out for earthly and spiritual hazards and turn from them quickly before I am

WATCH OUT!

devastated.The apostle Paul encouraged his

readers to watch out for obstacles as I hope to encourage you. In Romans, he writes, “...watch out for those who cause division and put obstacles in your way that are contrary to the teaching you have learned.” He goes on to say to keep away from them because by smooth talk and flattery they deceive the minds of naive people and adds “I want you to be wise about what is good, and innocent about what is evil” (16:17-19).

Let’s keep our eyes on Jesus and watch out for hazards, and let’s trust in the Lord with all our hearts, and he will make our paths straight” (Proverbs 3:5-6).

Then he said to them, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.” Luke 12:15 (NIV)

We recently had an earthquake in our local area which did not arouse much attention. I thought it interesting that in our church building that night, with some standing, others sitting, some were aware of the ground movement and others, myself included, were not. Then it comes to mind, is it not the same in the spiritual world? Why are some individuals sensitive to the movement of God, that they immediately pick up on what he is saying or how he’s moving in a particular service? How do they recognize an anointing on a particular person or the message given; yet others have no sense of the Holy Spirit’s moving and leave

God’s presence unchanged. Why? What makes the difference?

If everyone can hear from God, why do not more actually hear his voice?

Is there an art to hearing God’s voice? How does He actually speak? Deut. 4:12 “And the Lord spoke to you out of the midst of the fire”, 1 Kings 19:12 “…a gentle whisper” or ”a small still voice”, Job 37:2 “Hear attentively the thunder of His voice, and the rumbling that comes from His mouth”, Rev. 14:2 ”And I heard a voice from heaven, as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of a great thunder…”. Others would say they just know in their knower what the Lord is saying, or by an inner voice. He may also speak by illuminating a portion

of scripture. I Corinthians 2:10 “But we know about these things because God has sent his Spirit to tell us…”

How did Jesus come to hear his Father’s voice so well? Intimacy! An intimacy that came from spending time alone with God; Jesus had a passion to know his Father, he spent alone time with Him - away from the crowds, one on one.

Jesus says “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me” John 10:27. Jesus is a shepherd, our Shepherd. A good shepherd spends time with his sheep, likewise the sheep spend time with the shepherd. As sheep spend time with the shepherd they bond with him, they hear his voice as he tenderly cares for them and they come to recognize

A few weeks ago my wife and I turned off the TV, put down the newspaper, took the pooch to the slammer and headed up to Washington to visit our first born. We drove through the smoke of northern California and southern Oregon and it seemed as if our whole world was on fire. But in central Oregon the smoke cleared and sunshine and blue sky accompanied us to our destination. My wife had several bucket list items she wanted to check off while in the north country. The first being a visit to The Butchart Gardens in Victoria, British Columbia. The second was to see the

Chihuly glass exhibit in Seattle. Now I have to tell you that when it comes to culture, my wife and I do not occupy the same plane. Her culture is derived from PBS and the arts...mine comes from ESPN, Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd...it’s one of those Venus/Mars things.

Anyway, we took the ferry over to Victoria and I soon found myself surrounded by flora of every stripe. Mrs. Butchart, the wife of the founder of Portland Cement Co., had taken a gigantic scar in the earth (left by her husband’s company) and transformed it into a thing of true beauty. This was much more than applying makeup to cover a zit, this was a

total and complete transformation. It was a botanical feast and a celebration of color that only God could provide. Don’t you just love it when someone glorifies God so vividly? The next day we were off to Seattle and the Chihuly Glass Exhibit therein. This exhibit is a testimony to the creative gift God has endowed on man. Glass of varying sizes, shapes and color took light, twisted it, bent it, stained it in tones from beyond the rainbow. Then the glass reflected it back and/or pushed it out the other side to where it glazed my eyes and etched my memory. Don’t you just love it when someone takes a few basic ingredients (sand, fire and pigment) and

creates something that can only glorify God. I don’t know if Mr. Chihuly sees it that way, but I sure do!

As we headed home, we recalled the beauty we had seen...a beauty that escapes both words and camera...but not the spirit. As we drove back into the wildfire smoke of Oregon and California it didn’t seem as dense. That’s when I realized the smoke was only temporary, the beauty and promises of God are eternal. And no matter what the newspaper headlines would read, what TV anchors might report, nothing the world could throw at us would dim the light we had carried home.

his voice among all the other shepherds’ voices, and when he speaks they respond. As believers, we are His sheep, are we listening?

Is it time to let a little earthquake in our lives; to crack hard surfaces letting a passion for Jesus bubble up from the depths, to shake off complacency, to rattle foundations bringing us to our knees and letting excuses crumble on why we don’t have time to meditate on the Lord? Maybe a little earthquake to bring down walls and strongholds keeping us from spending time of intimacy with Jesus, our Shepherd, so we can learn to hear his voice, or hear it more clearly.

Are we ready for the earthquakes? Are we willing to say - Lord, bring them on…

A Psalm of David.

The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

Psalms 27:1

By LaDonna CurtemanLast year, over 500 people, 20 churches, and four awesome local Christian bands came together for the first ever at Band Together for Christ Christian Music Festival. Supported by Christian businesses and individuals, the festival was a great success with incredible live music and fun under the stars and it’s happening again this year. Once again, the Faith Christian High School worship team, made up of talented young musicians, will perform. Also in the line up is the ReGenerate student ministries band from Adventure Christian Church. You will be blessed by the lively gospel worship style of Calvary Christian Church from Olivehurst and finally rock out to the sounds of band members from Hope Point

Nazarene and Calvary Christian in Yuba City. The purpose of the festival … it’s not

what you think.

With a population of over 191,000 in the Yuba, Sutter and Colusa counties and only about 150 churches, we have a lot of work to do to reach our community for Christ. Since there is power in numbers, coming together is an effective way to reach our community. There is power in hearing 1,000-plus voices joining together to sing “Oh, How He Loves Us.” The purpose of the festival is to encourage churches to embrace the idea of working together to change our community by bringing people to Christ.

What’s new at the festival this year? This year, a variety of local ministries will sell food to raise funds for their works. In addition to the Teen Hangout with Frisbee football and human bowling, a Kids Zone with inflatables, obstacle course and family-friendly activities will be added. Also, we are partnering with Operation Christmas Child and those who

bring items for Christmas boxes or donate towards shipping expenses will receive additional tickets for a drawing.

CHRISTIAN BUSINESS ALLIANCEUNITY & CLARIFICATION!

CBA MARKETPLACE MONTHLY

Let me start with clarification. You don’t need to own a business to join the CBA. Got it? We are a marketplace ministry and the marketplace is defined by everything outside of the four walls of your home. Period! That would include; job, school, grocery store, sporting events, golf course etc. Get the idea? As followers of Jesus our mission field is wherever people gather. Our goal is to influence the Yuba-Sutter region for Jesus Christ. It is that simple.

Secondly, we represent approximately 20 different Christian churches and we are unified! Would you like to know why? Of course you would. We focus our attention on Jesus Christ which unites, not our individual denominational doctrines which divide. We are, of course unified on who Jesus Christ is, as described in the Bible. The CBA has existed for nearly 18 years and there has only been two occasions that have been brought to my attention where someone

would not attend a meeting because they could not fellowship with a person from a different denomination. Whatever! Here is what Jesus has to say about unity.

John 17:21-23 (NIV) “….that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one: I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.

There you have it. Clarification on membership and a core CBA value on unity. We meet every Tuesday. Contact owner, publisher, editor, copy writer, ad salesman and bill collector of this newspaper, Seth Halpern to be included in the weekly email invitations. That is all.

Baby Meshack is our newest little one at the orphanage. He was born approximately April 30, 2015 and arrived at Samaritan Village on July 31st. Meshack was found abandoned on a bus in Arusha. The bus stopped at the Arusha bus station. After all the passengers had exited the bus, the driver found the little baby on one of the bus seats. The baby was very weak and hungry. He was taken to the police and a report was prepared and then Meshack was given to the social welfare department. The social welfare officers decided the baby could best be cared for at Samaritan Village.

When the little baby boy arrived, Josephat (the orphanage director) named him Meshack. (The last baby brought to the orphanage was given the name Shedrack). Josephat reported that little Meshack cried all through the night. Josephat wrote, “We tried to hold in hands but he didn’t stop cry. Early in the morning he sleep a little bit and around 8 a.m. he start crying again. My hope he will stop to cry.”

Since then, we have reports that Meshack is adjusting and doing well. He continues to need our prayers.

YOUR SUPPORT IS APPRECIATED!

COMMUNITYBy Steve Gilliss

Last year, the Ambassador newspaper graciously ran a series of (2) articles on local ministry, Craftsmen for Christ. This year, CFC celebrates its 25-year anniversary.

In 1990, founder Bob Ouzts had a vision, born out of the tragic death of best friend John, to assist those in need. The first Craftsmen “work-day” was for John’s widowed wife Kathy, with a goal to complete several projects John had begun but not finished. From that point, CFC has assisted thousands; not only in the Y-S region but across the nation. While most of these projects tend to be small, with the ability to complete them in a single day, there have been several “large” efforts: CFC assisted in returning families to over 240 homes impacted by the Yuba County flood in 1997. In 2005, CFC sent a team of over 100 people to Mississippi to assist in the clean-up/rebuilding efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

All projects begin with prayer, with a

major emphasis on the spiritual needs of the “client” as well as the practical. The small projects are equally important as the large. Today, the biggest challenge of CFC according to Facilities Director Mark Charnetski, is meeting all the needs that come in. Current economic conditions dictate that CFC provides the technical ability & labor workforce necessary to complete a job.

The client must pay for, or somehow provide the required materials. Ironically Mr. Charnetski states the best part of his job is “seeing God’s provisions for those in greatest need”. Mark has also seen a change within himself as a result of Craftsmen. “I’ve seen God work in ways unimaginable. I now see Him in the small things of life”.

Director of Ministry Operations, James Steele, also feels the tug of those in need versus what CFC is capable of providing. “We do our best to evaluate & pray over the many requests that come in. We prioritize needs of the disabled (physically & economically). If someone

is soon to be released from the hospital, we’ll do our best to have a handicap ramp constructed when they return home”. James shared a very intimate voicemail message recently received from Mike Keysner, the son of a disabled man whom James had just built a wheelchair ramp for: “James, I cannot put into words what you’ve done for me & my family. You’ve not only restored my hope that there is still good in this world, your kindness has challenged me to re-visit my faith”. As James listened to the message & wiped the perspiration below his eye, he stated; “that’s why I do what I do”.

Another by-product of the recent economic downturn has been the virtual elimination of deliveries from Operation

Blessing. Mark Charnetski states, “from 2004 to 2014, CFC received around 1.6 million pounds of food & imperishables annually. Over the past two years however, CFC is lucky to receive one truckload a month”. Ironically, another ministry (Mobile Meals Ministry) whose hub is the CFC warehouse, was born out of local needs & provides weekly lunches for the homeless.

The lone CFC fundraiser is just around the corner. The 19th Annual Craftsmen for Christ golf tournament is being held on Saturday, Sept. 26th. For additional information or to make a financial contribution to CFC, please call 822-7910.

Bob Ouzts was recently “forced” to take a 3-week vacation from his role as Pastor at The Bride Church. I did contact Bob via text for one question; “What is your vision for CFC for the ‘next’ 25 years”? Bob’s answer, “ I pray that in the same way the Craftsmen ministry was started, it would continue: Loving God & loving our neighbors”.

Craftsmen For Christ- Then and (25 Years Later) Now

How can a simple shoebox gift change a life? When the prayers, love, and gospel message packed inside that box introduce a child to Jesus Christ, lives are changed. Look at how Jesus worked in Juli’s life…

In Colombia, Juli, 13, was living on the streets. After severely abusing her, her family abandoned the young girl to the streets. The only way she managed to eat and find shelter was by working as an errand girl for a brothel. One day another girl stopped Juli on the street, inviting her to a party at the nearby church. Though Juli had no idea what to expect, she agreed to go to the Operation Christmas Child distribution. As she joined in the

fun, listened to the music, and heard the Gospel, Jesus touched her heart. She surrendered her life to Him.

For the first time in her young life, Juli found possessions she could call her very own inside her shoebox gift: school supplies, toys, clothing, soap, a comb, and more. Juli was invited to attend The Greatest Journey 12 week discipleship program, so she began going back to the church week after week.

Soon Juli’s teacher discovered her sad story. For years, the teacher and her husband had prayed that God would bless them with a child, so they adopted Juli,

By Heather PughA total of six hidden-camera videos

exposing the harvesting (oftentimes without consent) and subsequent selling of fetal organs from the mountains of aborted babies killed by Planned Parenthood have been released with another six videos expected in the coming weeks. The videos are courtesy of an investigation done by a pro-life group called The Center for Medical Progress, located in Sacramento. Planned Parenthood’s President, Cecile Richards, denies any wrongdoing and claims the monies collected on the sale of the organs from the aborted babies

was to cover costs. A look at the videos tells a different story.

Mainstream media has of course been largely ignoring the releases and ensuing public outcry, choosing instead to focus on the death of Cecil the lion. And the California Attorney General’s office is now going after the group responsible for the undercover videos, sending a delinquency notice to the group shortly after the release of the first video alleging it had not paid the required fees for fiscal years 2013 and 2014 and had failed to submit copies of its IRS forms.

The videos have sent shock waves throughout the country prompting 12

states to launch investigations as well as a failed attempt on Capitol Hill to cut federal funding totaling more than $500 million per year for the abortion giant. However, the states of Alabama, New Hampshire, and Louisiana have revoked taxpayer funding for Planned Parenthood, prompting Obama to send threatening letters to each state claiming the move violates federal law.

Last year, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg donated $992 million to Planned Parenthood and so it’s only fitting that you watch the videos exposing Planned Parenthood’s atrocities on the

Kathie Lee Gifford has returned to the Today Show after her husband, Frank, died earlier this month. On the show, Gifford thanked those who sent messages of encouragement and prayed for her family in their time of grief, Charisma News reports.

The TV personality said Frank Gifford, a NFL player turned sports commentator was born during the Great Depression and was incredibly poor, but grew up with Christian faith.

Gifford said, “As a young child, Frank asked Jesus into his heart. And that remained with him for the rest of his life. He strayed from his faith on occasion but his faith never left him. And especially after we found each other and started sharing our faith together, became more

and more… important to Frank.” She continued, “His world got smaller

as his God got bigger. He’d want you to know that he died in complete peace. He knew every sin he’d ever committed was forgiven. He had the hope that he would be with the Lord and that we would someday be with him as well. That is the foundation of the Christian faith... is forgiveness, grace and hope. And those of you who are hurting today or feel hopeless, it might be the answer for you, in fact I know it’s the answer for you.”

Gifford said her husband did not want to be a burden on his family. He died suddenly on Aug. 9 at the age of 84.

“That’s what I had prayed, that the Lord would take him the way he wanted to go. And so I thank the Lord for that, for his grace to us as a family. And I pray his grace on all of you as well,” Gifford said.

Rich Fellowship, Powerful Prayer, Refreshing Presence of God! We meet at the Bonanza Innthe rst Tuesday of the month from noon – 1pm.

Current members:

By Rusty Wright, Special to ASSIST News Service (ANS Movie Review)Assistnews.net Got marital problems? Job-related stress? Ethical conundrums? Try prayer. That’s the theme of War Room, a Kendrick Brothers / Sony TriStar release opening August 28. This film, clearly aimed at a Christian audience, is not your typical Hollywood fare. Rather it weaves prayer insights into a lively drama about a troubled middle-class family. Elizabeth (Priscilla Shirer) and Tony (T.C. Stallings) are busy professionals with little time for each other or their daughter, Danielle (Alena Pitts). Elizabeth’s real estate work and Tony’s traveling sales job keep them headed in different directions. At home they bicker. Away, they lament to friends. Tony’s wandering eye doesn’t help.Spunk and attitude Enter Miss Clara (Karen Abercrombie), a spunky elderly widow who’s selling her house. She asks prying questions of realtor Elizabeth – about her home, marriage, and spiritual life. Think matriarchal Sunday School teacher with attitude. Also think refreshing, funny, appealing. Elizabeth’s guard is up at first, but her deteriorating home life eventually prompts her to seek this woman’s counsel. Miss Clara’s solution? Instead of fighting with Tony, Elizabeth should pray for him. She shows Elizabeth her own “war room,” a closet where she shuts out the world and focuses on God and prayer. Seeking to balance sensitivity with aplomb, Miss Clara invigorates the younger woman to intercede for her meandering spouse. We see humor and agony, pathos and surprise, despair and encouragement. Two strong women model how to pray and how to mentor others.White brothers’ production; African American cast

Brothers Alex and Stephen Kendrick (Courageous, Fireproof) co-wrote War Room. Alex directed, Stephen produced, and both act in it. They first caught Hollywood’s eye when their Georgia-church-produced Facing the Giants garnered $10 million at the box office. War Room features a largely African American cast. Were the Kendricks channeling their inner Tyler Perry? Alex told me that, as two white guys, they had already produced several films that mostly focused on Caucasians and wanted to broaden their emphasis. One War Room actor, comedian Michael Junior, especially enlivened the process. Alex reflects for the press: “Michael Junior…comes on my set, rewrites my jokes, thinks he’s funnier than I am…has the crew cracking up….. He’s hilarious and brings funnier stuff to my script than I originally had in there.” Stephen mulls the film’s desired impact: “Any time a person’s in a crisis and feeling discouraged, to know someone is praying for you is just wind in your sails. This movie brings that home.”Unanswered prayer? Of course, not all prayers bring the outcomes we desire. The late Jim

A 95-year-old Jewish man who was escaped from Nazi-occupied Austria through the help of Christians, is returning the favor by funding the rescue Christians from Iraq and Syria. The Independent reports George Weidenfeld, a publishing mogul, has set up the Weidenfeld Safe

Havens fund to support the rescue of up to 2,000 Christians from regions of ISIS control.

With the funding, Iraqi and Syrian Christians are being flown via private jet to Poland. Once safely in the country, Weidenfeld is funding their new lives for 12 to 18 months.

Weidenfeld told The Times, “I had a debt to repay. It applies to so many young people who were on the Kindertransports. It was Quakers and other Christian denominations who brought those children to England. It was very high-minded operation, and we Jews should also be thankful and do something for the endangered Christians.”

Weidenfeld’s project has been criticized for being exclusive to Christians needing aid, though Muslims and Yazidis are also persecuted by ISIS.

To this, Weidenfeld said, “I can’t save the world. But there is a very specific possibility on the Christian side.”

JEWISH MAN SAVED FROM NAZIS HELPS CHRISTIANS ESCAPE ISIS

Morrison, 1960’s rock icon with the Doors, famously and loudly proclaimed, “You cannot petition the Lord with prayer.” “Unanswered” prayer leaves many disillusioned and bitter. Perhaps like me, you’ve prayed earnestly for things that never happened, and were deeply disappointed. In 1996, I asked God to save my failing marriage and call off HR reps pursuing my termination. My hopes were not fulfilled. During a two-week period, my wife of twenty years divorced me, my employer of twenty-five years showed me the door, and I had a cancer scare. Life seemed swirling out of control. During those dark days, my mentor reminded me that “Romans 8:28 hasn’t been repealed yet.” That biblical

statement asserts, “God causes all things to work together for good to those who love [him].” Now, nineteen-plus years later, I’m happily married to a wonderful woman, have thriving work and good health. My mentor was right. My thoughts and ways are not always the same as God’s. He sees the whole picture. Though it may not seem that way at the moment, trusting him to guide you through your problems can bring an outcome better than you imagined, as War Room illustrates. Lots of good lessons in this film.

Innocent Idols? Who Will Fix Our Nation?: CONTINUED FROM PAGE 1

By Ryan Dozier

Some of the greatest revelations from God (about Himself) are often forgotten. There are a lot of things we can point to as reasons for forgetting what God has revealed. Insecurity and laziness are some specific reasons. These can become idols that enslave. For example, we may feel insecure about studying doctrines that are deep and difficult. So, we excuse ourselves from this task by reserving it strictly to our pastors (after all, they have degrees in theology). Insecurities help us become lazy by relying too much on our pastors’ sermons instead of studying for ourselves. These idols of insecurity and laziness begin to shape how we view God. They control us, even to the point that they motivate us to keep control over our lives from God. They can lead to God being ignored from the Bible. Such that, we become more susceptible to throwing out Biblical exegesis and systematic theology. In turn, our idols “tell us” God has become untrustworthy and/or distant.

The solution is to: (1) identify any given idol of our hearts, and (2) regard it for what it is in light of God’s revelation, namely an idol; finally, (3) turn from any given idol to the only true God, who paid the penalty for sins at Calvary, so that in Him and through

Him God can conform us to His image. By the eyes of faith , we can repent, believe, and rejoice in what Christ has done on our behalf. He died in our place to rescue us from sin--from idolatry-- that in Him we would become the children of God. The rags to riches story come true. So we are to no longer live ruled by idols for meaning, purpose or value. Idols cannot give any of these things. All they can do is enslave us on an endless search for meaning, purpose and value where it cannot be found. Meaning, purpose and value can only be found in Christ. Only in Him do we see God’s goodness, love and grace poured out for us on the cross. He who is beautiful became ugly for us that we might be beautiful in God’s sight. He who was invulnerable become vulnerable that we might find safety and security in Him. Despair and defeat is conquered, by hope and victory in, and through, Christ’s death, burial and resurrection.

slew of others. What about Hillary? (God help us!) Maybe they can take a swing at this thing called “the presidency”. Watching the debates is a little like watching the Miss America pageant (without the swimsuits, thankfully!) where each one is trying to look and sound their best, be the most clever, least stammering, and simply make people like them.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m glad that we live in a democratic system and not a dictatorship or any other governmental system. Our founding fathers did well and the American experiment has paid off in spades. I also believe that we (the church) need to vote for those whose values, beliefs, and policies would be closest to the Bible. We need strong, Godly leaders in office (from city hall to the White House).

That said, there is a problem with this nation and its citizens that not one single person on the cover can fix. Yes, we have an economic problem. Yes, we have a terrorism problem and an immigration problem and a racism problem and so on and so on. Yet, the biggest problem we face as a nation is a moral problem. We (that is each one of us) has a sin issue. Some of us have repented and asked Jesus for forgiveness, but many have not and continue in their sin. Sin (which is motivated by the devil) hurts, steals, kills, and destroys (Jn 10:10). That tears down neighborhoods, cities, states and nations. Every night I watch the news and hear about murders, robberies, fraud

and more in Sacramento, Stockton and even in little ol’ Yuba-Sutter. No one on the cover is going to change that. Only Jesus can change the hearts of lost and hurtful sinners. He does it all the time. We hear testimonies of His miraculous transforming power often.

I’m not saying that we shouldn’t vote for or even campaign for the one we see as the best candidate. That is not only our right but also our responsibility. More importantly though, our responsibility is to bring the life-changing power of the gospel of Jesus to our lost neighborhood, city, state and nation. It is called the great commission.

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matt 28:19)Let’s start with our own nation, even our own neighborhood.
