Eric promised his brother Mark, that if there was a way, he would watch over his

niece, Marcie. Marcie was injured in Afghanistan while on active duty with the

United States Air Force on July 11, 2013, three days after Eric passed away. After

her injury, she was flown to Germany, where she received a huge care package

filling with toiletries, shorts, shirts, a jacket, etc...from the Wounded Warrior Pro-

ject. She said: “My Uncle Eric IS watching over me!” The folks from the

Wounded Warrior Project continue to contact her regularly. Your generous gift

made this wonderful gift possible for not only Marcie, but other wounded warri-

Well it’s already the 10th of September and we are about ready to launch Pontiac Uprising #24. I have a

43 sponsorship list to contact and, as of now, I haven’t had anyone not renew their sponsorship and in

some cases, they raised the amount they are sponsoring. We have gained at least two new sponsors in

Cameo Cakes and Wichita Dyno. The people who own Cameo Cakes own the Divco Milk truck that

makes most of the local shows. Wichita Dyno, owned by Kriss, has helped several members by doing

dyno work on their cars.

I have now made two trips to Miami, Oklahoma to pick up cars and engines. We have now picked up

six cars and 15 engine blocks; some complete but most were in the short block stage. We picked up four

complete tri power’s and six more tri power intake manifolds with a bunch of cylinder heads. Also

picked up four Muncie transmissions and one Doug Nash race 5 speed with a vertigate shifter. So I have

been very busy trying to digest all of the parts and cars into my available space. Marvin Hoover had col-

lected all this stuff for 40 years. Sandi is ready for a clean out of her husband’s stuff so she can put the

TV shop Marvin owned up for sale. For all of these parts and cars that were 1/4 done, she now has a

nice ‘64 Pontiac 2, plus two Catalina Pro Street car to drive and/or sell.

I need to check out the Best Western Air Port Inn and make sure everything there has no surprises. I

know making sure that our tech session for the Uprising is still on board. They had earlier committed to

a session about Paint with PPG. The local company handling that is Keystone Automotive LKQ of

Wichita.

We met with Larry Crider and Art Barrett a couple of weeks ago at Phil and Margaret Brinkley’s in

Rose Hill and had a good meeting with some of the old Kansas Chieftains who are excited to help make

the 2014 POCI Nationals a success. They have volunteered to do the trailer parking and also help with

registration. Bill Burton is doing articles to put in the Smoke Signals that tell about the events and sites

to see and do in Wichita. So far, this undertaking has went without any big problems. So, with all our

membership help, we can make some money for the club to go down in history as putting on a great

event in Wichita. There are some people concerned about a GTOAA Club handling a POCI event and I

hope this separation can help put the two organizations on a course of cooperating instead of competi-

tion. The Pontiac owners need to try to help each other out instead of telling how bad they got treated at

the last event they went to because their car wasn’t the GTO or the other way around, their car wasn’t a

full sized Pontiac.

I’m attending a Wichita International 50 year reunion on the 14th and will not be able to make the next

meeting at the Proffitt’s. I’m sure the steaks will be great that I will be missing! Jeff Vann will be run-

ning the show that meeting if he can make it. Les Linn will fill in if it comes to pass. See you all soon at

The August 17, 2013 meeting was hosted by Tim Mahoney and his wife. The club enjoyed

friendship, refreshments, and a wonderful meal. Thank you Tim!

Tom Wilhite shared the design for the t-shirt for the 2014 Convention. He also discussed

having a drag race shirt along with the convention shirt.

On the matter of the Uprising, plaques and t-shirts were discussed. Les has art work for the

plaques and he will be taking care of them. Rita Jones will handle the t-shirts and sweatshirts.

It was agreed upon that it would be a good idea to do sweatshirts this year because they haven’t

been done in a few years.

The mailers for the Uprising are at the Postal Pre-Sort and are being mailed to everyone on an

updated list. They should be mailed out by then end of August.

Tom is still working on the sponsorships for the Uprising.

POCI update meeting is planned for the weekend of the 24th of September at Phil and Margaret

Brinkley’s home in Rose Hill. Les will send out an e-mail on particulars at a later date.

Bill Burton did a great article highlighting places to see and things to do in Wichita for all the

visitors coming for the convention. At the meeting we discussed different activities that could

be available during the convention such as the drive-in, Cowtown, cruises, etc.

The next meeting will be at Cap and Robin Proffitt’s on September 14th at around 12:30 p.m.

The meeting will need to be over by 2 o’clock when the band, King Midas and the Mufflers,

begins to play. Don’t forget to bring lawn chairs while food and drinks will be provided.

Deanna Schottler had programs from Eric’s service and Pontiac flashlights available for the

members that were present at the meeting.

Dan and Rita Jones were asked by Eric, before he passed, to take care of all the Pontiac parts.

We have made some progress on moving blocks, cranks, heads, intakes, and exhaust manifolds

from the shop on Osage. Next step is making an actual inventory list. We still have more parts
