A s I write this it is mid-August and 103 degrees outside, yet I can’t help but realize that Fall is right around the corner. Half the time I’m confused about what month it is anyway, considering we work so far ahead on publishing your Lincoln Center Chronicle! With summer coming to a close, I'm really going to miss boating on our Delta, yet I'm looking forward to Fall - not because of the change in weather…. but for the fashion, of course.
Thanks to the new merchandise in our boutiques, I’m already mapping out my “Fall staples” (you know, those things you’ll wear all season). I’ve made a mental list of the pieces I’d like to acquire - a few loose fitting sweaters in neutral colors that will pair well with any color denim, patterned scarves, a jean jacket. Oh, my list goes on.
Now that I have you thinking about your own Fall wardrobe, you’ll want to read this issue to bring yourself up to speed on the latest trends. We cover everything from trendy nail colors to what’s new from Ugg. Be sure to check out our “Ask the Experts” article on page 16 where our merchants share what’s in style for Fall 2012.
With the changing of the season also comes a few exciting changes at Lincoln Center. Remedy, a men’s and women’s clothing boutique, will open this month between FINA and LINO BELLA. We’d like to welcome back Remedy's owner, Melissa Flores who worked at Campbell’s for 13 years. We’re excited for her new venture! We're also 'raising the bar', so to speak, at several of our restaurants. Read about the complete bar remodel at Bud's Seafood Grille on page 19. Papapavlo’s has also expanded their bar, which we'll highlight in next month’s Chronicle.
Lastly, we hope all the women reading this will join us on Thursday, September 27th for St. Joseph’s Caring for Me, an exclusive evening of health and fashion. Enjoy dinner from Papapavlo’s, wine tasting, a health and beauty expo, fashion show and “The Chatroom”, which will give you a chance to chat with doctors and ask questions you’ve always been curious about. Oh and I almost forgot to mention the special offers and discounts available that night only! Tickets, which are $20 in advance or $25 at the door, are available at a number of Lincoln Center stores. Turn to page 12 for details.
Enjoy the end of summer and embrace Fall!

– V I D A L S A S S O O NEducation is a vital part of VIP Salon and their staff, more specifically, Vidal Sassoon techniques. Vidal Sassoon is an industry leader and innovator and with his passing earlier this year, the beauty industry truly lost an icon! With the Vidal Sassoon headquarters being in London, Olympians have been receiving the Sassoon treatment and his legacy lives on!
Cha has been a longtime believer in Sassoon techniques, philosophies and commitment to excellence. So much that her daughter, Lin, not only went through the cosmetology program but has also taken many advance cut and color classes through Sassoon. Her son Wes, who was named 2011 American Crew Educator of the year, is also a Sassoon Academy graduate along with other VIP stylists Nadia and Skye.
VIP Salon continues to stay ahead of the curve by offering their stylists two in-salon training (September 24th and October 25th) courses. If you are interested in being a model for one of their in-salon cutting classes, stop by the salon in person and let them know!

Home is where the heart is. It’s the place where you are loved, feel good, and can get good advice. For the ladies at Chico’s, their Lincoln Center store is their home. It’s the place where their motto is “making women feel good” and reminding her that the best thing she can wear is her confidence. It’s not hard to find spirit when you walk into this warmhearted store.
Remember the days when you had fun dressing up with your friends and never had to leave the comfort of your home? Chico’s welcomes you through their doors for a more mature sort of dress up. Trendy, stylish, and comfortable clothing reaches every corner of this boutique, capturing your eye with colors and embroidered embellishments. Everything is designed with a passion for fashion, and that is also how it is sold. Additionally, their jewelry is a rare find. Coming from a store where everything is a unique
bargain, it’s no surprise to know that each piece of Chico’s jewelry is specifically designed to match outfits found in the store.
Cecilia, the four-year manager, knows her work as a home away from home. Seeing her co-workers as family, the atmosphere is cozy with hospitality. They pride themselves in service and continually try to create an inviting experience. What’s more, customers can set up

appointments to receive one-on-one assistance with a style expert from the store. These skilled ladies know some “home remedies” that will help you find the right style, fit, and comfort. Like friends, they don’t want to keep any fashion secrets from you and want to show you every trick.
After explaining their “feel good sizing” and maybe showing you 20 different ways to tie a scarf, they can direct you toward their extensive pant collection. Denim jeggings, boot cut jeans, colored zipper anchor jeans, and pocket getaway pants are a few of their new selections. But they hold another surprise for you. They now have an item called their so-slimming jeans. With a technology panel in the waistband, these pants are sleek as well as comfy.
Whether it is for the cozy atmosphere, intimate community, great customers, or easy parking, every Chico’s lady loves working in Lincoln Center. And you’ll love their clothes and them too. You can search for another place like this until the cows come home, but there’s no place like Chico’s.

This month’s cover was photographed inside Flair Boutique, which is just perfect considering it’s our fashion issue! Owners (and mother-daughter team) Carolyn Walker and Starr Donati are truly fashion icons, and their store is known for the personal service they provide. On the cover, one of their longtime customers Kathy Rishwain (in the gorgeous red sweater from Flair) is pictured alongside Starr Donati. Kathy is the wife of Scott Rishwain and mother of two: Andrew, 19, who is a student at USC, and Nicole, 16, a junior at St. Mary’s High School. Thank you to Kathy, Carolyn and Starr.

Meet Us at T he CenterAt Lincoln Center
Last month wrapped up the 2012 LIVE! season, and what a wonderful season it was! We would like to extend a BIG THANK YOU to our sponsors, Berberian European Motors, Big Valley Ford and Mataga of Stockton. It is because of these local businesses and our Lincoln Center merchants that we are able to offer the community these wonderful events! The June 15th YMCA Wine Stroll was a blast, with over 20 local wineries participating. The event raised $6,000 for the YMCA of San Joaquin County ($4,000 through ticket sales and $2,000 from their raffle). The funds are being put towards programs in our community. The July 20th ReCycle LIVE! offered all kinds of family fun. Attendees rode their bikes to the event and learned about being “green” from local businesses. Kids enjoyed free rides on the Jumbo Slide, face painting, balloon animals and a party hopper. Congrats to the three winners of brand new bicycles from Performance Bikes! The Classic Car Show on August 17th took attendees back in time with classic cars, a military fly-over and 50’s music. The event featured almost 200 classic cars and raised $3,850 for the Lincoln High Alumni Association. The money will be given out as scholarships to students. Thank you to the community for coming out to celebrate summer with us!

First, invest in a classically styled coat in either fleece, wool or faux fur. Solid colors work best and can be worn year after year without looking dated. Look for chic details like a waist tie and princess seaming to dramatically flatter your figure without a hint of bulk. Instead of a sweater, layer your coat over long-sleeved blouses or tops with a touch of spandex. You’ll appreciate the stretch appeal, as well as how this wonder fabric magically slims and smoothes. Finally, get creative with your accessories. Leather gloves and tapestry print scarves will go a long way in setting your look apart with gorgeous style and distinction.”

its purpose but was out of date and in need of a “face lift.” After checking out numerous other bars for inspiration and ideas, they decided on a complete remodel including new doors, flooring, countertops, lighting, cabinetry and all the add-ons like new tables and chairs, barstools and glassware.
The concept was to stick with the ocean/nautical theme. The different shades of blue and wave designs in their new booth upholstery, hanging lamps, carpet and glass give the bar a fresh new look but still tie in with the restaurant. A lighted blue glass wall is the backdrop for the bar and
dark wood shelves replaced the oak cabinetry. The bar countertop boasts beautiful, sleek white quartz rock. The walls were smoothed and painted and adorn two flat-screen TVs. Although almost everything in the bar is brand new, it’s still home to a unique collection of vintage cocktail shakers from different eras in time- some as old as the early 1900s. The Millsaps started collecting them on vacation after visiting a place in Nevada City where cocktail shakers lined the entire room. They now have 150 shakers in
a variety of colors, sizes and shapes. About 45 are currently on display in the bar, and Jeanne will rotate them seasonally.
Not only did the Millsaps completely remodel the bar, but they’re mixing things up in the kitchen too! (Don’t worry, Bud’s will still serve ALL your favorites!) They are adding fresh new drinks and mouth-watering bar bites. Their unique new cocktails feature fresh fruits and vegetables and are called by ocean-themed names. Try JAWS (blackberry mojito), THE BEACH (pear martini), OPEN WATER (lemon drop) or CASTAWAY, which is key lime pie martini- a drink even more delicious than the dessert! And you can pair these hand-made cocktails with a new appetizer such as Huevos Diablo (deviled eggs), lemon mushroom polenta or shoestring calamari. Just like their salad dressings, soups and desserts, everything is house-made daily. Looks like it’s time to head over to Bud’s!
A Whole New Look
If you walk into Bud’s Seafood Grille through the bar entrance, it might take you a minute to recognize the place! The total remodel of the bar area, which was completed in mid-July, is modern and contemporary, yet in tune with the rest of the restaurant. “We wanted to create a place that is warm and inviting- a nice new place to come for a cocktail or glass of wine,” said Matt Millsaps, manager and son of Bud and Jeanne. “The goal was to really change things up but still stay true to the theme of the restaurant and who we are.”
In 1993 when Bud’s first opened, the space where their bar is now was not part of the restaurant. In fact, the Birkenstock store was located there at the time. In 1996, Bud’s expanded and took over the space creating a comfy bar area that featured beautiful oak cabinetry and a cozy feel. Over the last few years, the Millsaps started to feel the design of the bar was lacking. It definitely served

Fall Nail Trends
Spice up an outfit without thinking much about it! Nail polish is one of the most popular accessories to complete your ensemble. With Fall right around the corner, everyone is wondering how to improve their current wardrobe. Nail polish is the easiest and most inexpensive way to spice up and outfit and add a little extra flash.
Dark nails will be a hit this Fall. Stock up on rich burgundy colored polish and midnight blues… shades that aren’t quite black. Burnt plums will be popular, and deep reds. These deep, beautiful shades will compliment all skin tones well.
Pretty pale colors are also popular this year. White, soft gold and cream shades are prominent and perfect for complimenting colorful accessories.
If you’re feeling bold, put a twist on the classic nail polish and spice yours up with nail art. Texture, prints and even an ombre look is popular on nails. Visit your manicurist or experiment at home. Either way, a little extra flair goes a long way.
These fun nail trends will keep you in style and compliment and accessorize any outfit this Fall. It’s easy to follow: dark nails, pale colors and bold twists. Do them yourself or visit one of your favorite Lincoln Center nail salons and stay in style in the upcoming months.
