Do we just bemoan this situation, wring our hands, toss up feeble prayers to God; or do we do something about it?

Truth be told, GCC is serious about our mission to young people! Children and their families are an integral part of that mission. For three years we have pursued additional staff for this area of our ministries. And our search ended when you met a new Chris @ GCC!

Chris Cowsert is our Student Minister, for students in 6th-12th grades. Chris C. leads a team that is developing stu-dent ministry environments in which students will accept Jesus into their lives, mature, and then share their faith.

Chris C. works under the leadership of Chris Tanner to align the student min-istry goals with the family ministry goals, all under the mission of Georgetown Christian Church: to turn everyday people into fully-devoted fol-lowers of Jesus Christ. Chris C. is a great fit to our GCC team! He has al-ready mapped out an overall strategy for this next year. Be sure to welcome him the next time you see him!

Roebins’ Notes continued...

Since Chris Tanner was leading in student and children’s ministries, how will his role change? Great question! The GCC leadership has for some time wanted a children’s minister to focus on our mission to the Nursery - 5th grade kids. Chris T. is moving into that new role as our Family Minister.

Recent studies show that no matter how intensely churches focus on kids, a young person’s relationship with the Lord won't last beyond high school if the family is not involved in purposefully passing on that same life-giving relationship with our Heavenly Father.

GCC's ministry to children may look similar to what it has in the past with our age-appropriate Sunday morn-ing worship times; but in an effort to turn everyday kids into fully-devoted followers of Jesus Christ, we are sounding the call for parents to step up as the spiritual leaders of their families.

Many parents already want to do this, but they struggle with how to pull it off. The Family Ministry led by Chris T. is an effort to synchronize church leaders and parents around a master plan to build faith and char-acter in their sons and daughters.

Presently Chris 1.0 & Chris 2.0 are reading through Think Orange. They are of one mind about discipling the children and teens of Georgetown Christian Church by partnering with parents.

A quote from Think Orange sums up our recalibrated direction: “2 com-bined influences make a greater impact than just 2 influences.”

You didn’t know how valuable a mi-crowave oven could be until you got one, did you? You didn’t realize how important a cell phone was until you got one of those babies, too, did you? With the addition of Chris C. to our GCC staff, I anticipate great and exciting things for our children, from nursery through high school! The biggest problem I have is figuring out what to call the two Chris…es! Whatever! ☺

A FEW IMPORTANT REMINDERS FROM

THE OFFICE REGARDING BUILDING USE

With the holidays just around the corner, room use at GCC is sure to become more frequent. We thought now would be a good time to remind everyone of the guidelines for using any of the rooms here at GCC for your event:

• Remember to empty trash, if any, after you are finished

(extra trash bags and cleaning supplies are located in the

kitchen pantry). We want to avoid inviting any bugs into

our building. It also alleviates any unwanted “scents” in

the rooms and hallways! The trash cans are located in

the designated area outside the kitchen door. Tables and

chairs should be wiped down if food/drink is used. Empty

and turn off or unplug coffee maker(s), if used.

• If the room is too hot or cold, please use the arrows on

the key pad to adjust the temperature up or down -

please do not use the manual/program button.

• If you need to move any of the tables and/or chairs

around for your meeting or event, please make sure you

place them back when you are finished for Sunday Bible

classes (diagrams of furniture placement are posted on

the walls in each classroom).

• Additional tables and/or chairs, if used, should be re-

turned to the storage area.

• Please make sure the floors are swept (and mopped, if

needed), all lights are turned off and all doors locked be-

fore leaving the building. If no one else is in the building

when you leave, please set the security alarm.

It is important to follow these few simple guidelines so that

our congregation and our community may continue using the

building to further God’s work for many years to come.

Thank you for your cooperation!
