NORTHMINSTER NEWS - SEPTEMBER 2011
Brothers & Sisters in Christ,
We are writing you to share how excited we are about what God is doing in His church.
We all know the church is not a building but a group of people that are filled and surrounded with the Holy Spirit. It is through the lives and the actions of this group of people that the Lord works to touch lives with His love and grace.
The Holy Spirit has brought together a diverse group of your friends from the Canton Churches who have different talents, different life stories and different experiences and who want to stand by the leadership and members of Northminster Presbyterian Church as you work your way through the challenges you are now facing.
We hope this gives you comfort in knowing that the work of the Holy Spirit comes to us in ways we sometimes would not expect.
In preparation for our upcoming discussion on August 31, 2011, at your facility, we have included a few thoughts for reflection that will enable us to better understand how your discipleship has touched so many others and where you feel Christ is leading you.
1. Share with us what makes Northminster Presbyterian Church unique in your eyes.2. Describe to us what you would share with someone about the strengths of your church family.3. How is Northminster witnessing to the community around it?4. How has God blessed you with His grace in this crisis?
As we gather to share your insights to the above inquiries, our focus should begin with devotional time that one of your leaders would conduct. Beginning with devotion always puts our Lord front and center in any discussion.
As each of us continuously prays for direction and guidance, we are sure our commitment to GOD will lead us to a closer relationship with one another and Jesus Christ.
Your Friends in Christ,
Darrell Holmes, Tom Houston, Larry LaLama, Martha Gerber, Bob Porter, & Rob Townsend

Womenʼs Association Meeting
The Womenʼs Association will resume meeting on Tuesday, September 6, at 12:30 p.m. in the church parlor. Sue Paradis will have the program and Virginia Spring will offer devotions. Refreshments will be provided by Judy Felton.
Hello Everyone,
I hope that you are having a relaxing and rejuvenating summer! While you are finishing your summer projects, itʼs a good time to think about how you can use your particular gifts to serve God at Northminster this coming fall. If you have the gift of singing or playing an instrument, participating in one of the music ministry activities is a very
worthwhile way to serve God. Our upcoming groups are Knox Singers for children ages five and up, Chimes for third graders and up, Handbell choir for sixth graders and up, and the Chancel Choir for sixth graders and up. All of these groups practice once a week. The Chancel Choir sings nearly every Sunday and the other groups participate in worship about once a month.
!
! !
The Knox Singers and Youth Chimes will begin rehearsals on September 7th with the Singers meeting from 5:30-6:10 and the Chimes meeting from 6:10-6:50, both in the choir room.
The Chancel Choir and Handbellʼs first rehearsal will be Thursday September 8 with the bells meeting from 6:15-7:15, and the choir meeting from 7:30-9:00, both in the choir room. The Chancel Choir will first sing in worship on September 11.
Please consider giving one of our music ministries a try. We have a spirit lifting time serving the Lord! I am blessed to work with such faithful and loving Christians. Please give me a call or email if you are interested in any of our groups. We have places for you in every choir!Have a great time enjoying the rest of your summer! I am so excited to begin another year of worship and learning about our Lord at Northminster Presbyterian Church.
Yours in Christ,
Sue Hirschman

Update on Astoria Nursing Visits
We have quite an active mission to the Astoria Nursing Home. Twice each month, the first Thursday and the third Tuesday, women visit and pray with some of the residents there. It all began as an outreach of the Bible Class that meets at 10:00 a.m. each Tuesday, most often at Susan Ridgway’s home, but also, at Jayne Kidder's, Jeanne Shepard's, Marsha Mossgrove's and Lynda McGinnis’s homes. This group has grown for the Astoria visits since Marian Morgan, Elaine Clark, and Micki Williams have joined us. On Tuesdays, Pastor Matt conducts a short Worship Service. Jayne Kidder plays the organ, a gift from a friend of Joanne Sogan and the Grannies. Jayne's son Tim and grandsons Ryan and Sean moved it in, and Charlie Mossgrove made the rolling platform for the organ. It was truly a
group effort and the singing now is lusty! But that's not all! Greg Moore, our elite photographer, took pictures of the residents, some of which you have seen in our church newsletter. In addition, Wilma Fagert and Marthajane Meyerhoffer, our expert artisans, make prayer shawls (9 so far), which are given to the residents on their birthdays, and more recently,to the shut-ins of our church. So we have all grown in love and faith as we read, talk, sing and pray together, and hopefully brighten up the day for a few people. We also feel God's love and blessings on us. We'd love to have you join us. Just let any of us know and, we will welcome you.

Thank you very much for supporting me and being behind me all of these years. Being a part of this church, and all of the activities has helped shape me as a person, and I thank you for that. I greatly appreciate the Memorial Scholarship and will use it for all of the books I will need at Cincinnati. Thank you once again for everything that you have done for me.
