INAUGURATION OFRETIRED STAFF QUARTER

The inaugural ceremony of the newRetired Staff Quarter in Chauntara, H.Pwas observed on 8th July, 2010. Thechief guest on the occasion wasHonorable Minister of Health, CTA,Mr.Paljor Tsering. The Health Ministerinaugurated the newly built retired staffquarter.
The Director, Registrar and the retiredstaff of MTK were present at theceremony. The other dignitariespresent were the Principal and Directorof Suja School, Principal of TCV and
CST Chauntara, Settlement officer ofBir and Chauntara, Head of Bircommunity health center and the publicwere present at the opening ceremony.
The project for building a retired staffquarter initially started from 2004 andmany sites were seen in and aroundDharamsala, but some requisites werelacking in these areas. In 2007 the landin Chauntara, H.P was decided for the
project and so on 1 May, 2008 theconstruction was started. The buildingwas completed on 21 August 2009 andin April, 2010 the infrastructure in thearea was also finished.

Besides, she also toured different placesin the area to provide Tibetan traditionalsystem of healing by visiting Boudha,Chabahil branch clinic, ThuptenCholing monastery, Jolakhiel, Kopanmonastery, Tibetan old Age center andChetrapati branch clinic. She providedmedical consultation to 252 patients inall these areas and gave public talks onhealth awareness and dietary advice tothe community living there.

Dr. Ngawang Dorjee and team fromBhubaneshwar branch clinic visitedVisakhapatnam from 5-7 August, 2010.This is the first medical visit since 2006when the branch clinic discontinued itsvisit there. But due to the efficacy andbenefits of the traditional Tibetanmedicine patients came toBhubaneshwar and Bangalore fortreatment. Realizing the difficulties
faced by these patients, the residentdoctor inquired to get information fromSonam Topgyal and Dr. Tenzin Gompoto continue the medical camp and theyadvised to contact Mr. B.R.K. Raju forassistance.

Mr. B.R.K Raju has been assisting inorganizing medical camps in Hyderabad
and Vizag before. He helped organizethe medical camp and hence the Branchclinic team was able to visitVisakhapatnam to help the sufferingpatients from August, 2010. Duringthe first medical camp Dr. Dorjee RabtenNeshar was invited for the openingceremony of the medical camp. On 6August, 2010 Dr. Dorjee Rabten, CMOBangalore branch clinic and Dr.Ngawang Dojee attended the mediaconference at the press club from 4-5p.m. On 7th morning, the openingceremony was celebrated and there waswide media coverage on the doctor’svisit. There were around 55 patientstreated during the medical camp by Dr.Dorjee Rabten Neshar.
The chief guest on the occasion wasChief Commissioner of Vizag MuncipalCorporation, Mr. Vishu and Mr. A.S.N.Raju was among the dignitaries present.The medical camp venue was at I.S.N.Raju Auditorium. The second medicalvisit was conducted from 11-12September, 2010 and Dr. NgawangDorjee gave treatment to 41 patients.The most common disorders wererheumatoid arthritis, diabetes,hypertension, nervous disorder,gastritis, asthma, skin problem, chroniccold, allergy etc. For the duration ofthe camp the organizers gave free spacefor treatment.

MTK DOCTORVISITS KOCHI
Coinciding with the visitof His Holiness the DalaiLama at the 33 WorldCongress of theInternational Associationof Religious Freedom atKochi, Kerala, Mr. SethuDas, chairman of Friendsof Tibet invited Dr. DorjeeRapten Neshar, CMOBangalore branch clinic,MTK to participate in theTibet exhibition from 4-5
September, 2010 held there.
Dr. Dorjee Rapten Neshar and TseringDicky, dispenser attended the Tibetexhibition and displayed exhibition onTibetan medicine in the afternoon on 4September. The next day consultationand treatment were provided to 38patients by the doctor. This visit was asuccess in bringing close ties with theTibet support groups, meetingdignitaries and specially, the purposeof the medical camp was to bringawareness amongst the people of theregion the efficacy of traditional Tibetansystem of healing. The organizers ofthe Tibet exhibition were very happywith the service provided by the team
that Mr. Sethu Das accepted to organizeand support medical camps in thefuture. The second medical camp willbe held from 13-15 October, 2010through advertisement and mediacoverage.
Men-Tsee-Khang is grateful to Mr.Sethu Das and the organizers for theirsupport and help to the Bangalorebranch clinic.

DIPLOMA COURSE INI.I.H.T.S, AUSTRIA
Dr. Namdol Lhamo, TranslationDepartment, MTK visited Austria from10 March - 17 July 2010 at theInternational Institute of HigherTibetan Studies (I.I.H.T.S), Huttenbergin Austria. She was deputed by MTKto educate on the Diploma Course there.The Diploma course was on“Fundamentals of traditional Tibetanmedicine” and the duration of the firstsemester was four months. The courseconsisted of four modules in a semesterand she completed teaching on thetopics of the 1 Semester at I.I.H.T.S.Besides, she also conducted lectures,seminar and health consultations.

course and were divided into twogroups weekend and blocked group.She started the I Module From 19 - 21March, 2010. She lectured on the topics“Introduction and History oftraditional Tibetan medicine, Historyof traditional Tibetan medicine,Introduction on Gyud-Shi I, II, Twoschools of thoughts in traditionalTibetan medicine and Theory of ThreeHumors”.
The II Module started with lectures on“Psychosomatic Nature of Person intraditional Tibetan medicine, Theoryof five elements, Embryology andAnatomical Knowledge in traditionalTibetan medicine”. She completed thesecond module from 23 - 25 April, 2010.
In May, 2010 she spoke on Metaphorsof Body, Physiology of Bodilyconstituents, Humors in traditionalTibetan medicine, Importance of tripleheat and Death omens in traditionalTibetan medicine. The III Modulestarted from 7 May and was completedon 9 May, 2010.
The fourth module started from 3 Juneand was completed on 12 June, 2010.Dr. Namdol Lhamo lectured on causesand classification of diseases, fourcausative factors in diseases, generaldiagnostics techniques, therapeuticapproach, Importance of Nutrition &Balanced Diet, Lifestyle and Health,Six tastes and its sub-classifications,eight potencies & seventeen attributes,
Mind and Body relationship intraditional Tibetan medicine. She alsospoke on Signs and symptoms ofimbalances Nyes-pa.
Group discussions, individualpresentation on favorite topics andobjective questions followed after eachsession during the course. The firstsemester for the Diploma course startedfrom March 19 - 12 June, 2010 and thecourse was conducted in 48 sessions.
The participants who joined thediploma course were from Austria,Germany, Switzerland, Slovenia andPrague from different profession andwalks of life - physicians, massage andenergetic therapist, psychotherapist,alchemist, astrologer, gardener,shepherd etc. The assembly of differentpeople from various sections made theteaching atmosphere open and lively.
The participants of the courseexpressed, “The traditional Tibetanmedicine offers the common room fordiscussion among people fromdifferent professions and walks of lifetogether which makes it one of themost unique medical systems. It opensa door to various other knowledge ofTibetan Astrology, Buddhistphilosophy and psychology”.
The doctor provided healthconsultation to 66 patients inKnappenberg, Vienna, Kirchdorff andBratislava. The main disorders were
gastro- intestinal diseases, allergies,rLung- heart diseases, cervical &lumbar spondylitis, cancers, etc. Dr.Namdol Lhamo gave public talk on“Health through Balance intraditional Tibetan Medicine” to 130people in Slovenia. She attended aseminar in Knappenberg and lecturedon “Stress & depression in traditionalTibetan Medicine” to 20 students there.She spoke on “Health throughBalance in traditional TibetanMedicine” and gave “Introduction ontraditional Tibetan medicine” to 60people in Bratislava on 16 July, 2010.The talk was followed by questionanswer session.
HEALTH AWARENESSPROGRAM IN BIR ANDSURROUNDING AREAS
Dr. Tenzin Yeshi, TranslationDepartment, MTK Dharamsala visitedBir, Sherabling monastery, Suja school,Chauntra, Tashi Jong and Gopalpurfrom 24 - 27 August, 2010 to give healthawareness talk on Tuberculosis (TB) tothe public. This health awarenessprogram on Tuberculosis (TB) wasorganized by Delek Hospital with thesupport of AISPO. The program wasinitiated by AISPO to bring awarenessin the Tibetan community onTuberculosis, according to the Westernand Traditional Tibetan system ofhealing.
Dr. Tenzin Yeshi, MTK and Mrs. TseringPaldon from Delek hospital were thehealth educator of this program.Tuberculosis, is one of the commondisorders affecting the Tibetancommunity, so public awareness for itsprevention and remedy was felt as asignificant move to educate the publicin preventing and eradicating thedisease.

to maintain health,how to maintaindiet and behaviorwhen one issuffering from thedisorder and thesignificance ofusing western andt r a d i t i o n a lm e d i c i n esimultaneously.
Dr. Tenzin Yeshilectured that“According totraditional Tibetanmedicine it isreferred to as GlogChong Zad Byed or Glo gChong nadi.e chronic lung disorder. This disorderis caused due to improper Diet &Behavior which leads to weak bodyand immune system. Due to improperdiet and behavior the metabolism in thebody gets disturbed leading todigestive disorder thus causingindigestion. This in turn weakens theimmune systems. On the other hand,wind channels rlung or circulation inthe system is imbalanced due toimproper diet and behavior. This bringsimbalance of wind energy and disturbsthe function of the nerves, imbalancesthe circulation and leads to weakimmune system”.
To maintain health, the doctor informedthat one should follow a particular dietpattern like: eating fresh foods, cowmilk, cooked or steamed vegetables,chicken, fish, boiled warm water, inhalefresh air, morning walk and have mealsin time. Avoid deep fried, stale and rawfoods, cold drinks, smoke, cigarette,sitting on wet and moisture places,stress and anxiety.
It is essential to work together betweenwestern and traditional Tibetan systemof health care in the treatment processof Tuberculosis to benefit the health ofthe patients. MycobacteriumTuberculosis causes TB according towestern system of diagnoses and treatsthe disorder to get rid of the bacteria.Traditional Tibetan system helps to
strengthen the lungs, balance windchannels and improve digestion.
LECTURE ON MEDICINALPLANTS – CHRIS
CHADWELL
Mr. Chris Chadwell lectured onmedicinal plants at the MTK hall on 16September, 2010. He presented slideshow on the medicinal plants utilizedin Tibetan medicine grown in Bhutan,Himalayan regions of (Lahual,KurroaH.P) Zangskar in Ladakh, Kashmir andNepal, etc. Many plants wereintroduced to the students and staffthrough slide shows, describing its
nature, using Tibetan and equivalentLatin/Western scientific names for eachplant. He spoke on the preservationand conservation of medicinal plants.
He informed that Bhutan is a source ofplant material for use in Tibetanmedicine. Plants like Rosa Sericea,Himalayan Ginseng / Panex PseudoGinseng Subsp. Himalecius grow inBhutan, Rosa Webhiea in Ladakh, Rosamacophyalla, Rosa Foetida, Saxifragastenophylla in Himalayan region.
He stressed the importance of researchin correct identification and cultivationof Himalayan and Tibetan species usedin herbal medicine. Plant identificationis difficult and he said “sometimes it isdifficult to tell which is which”. So it isimportant to make sure, check andcompare which one is right. It is alsosignificant to take time to check andmake correct identification of Tibetanand Latin names during chemicalanalysis. Wrong species is bad foreverybody and if published will be amislead information and hence correctscientific identification in relation toTibetan names of plant is very essential.
He lectured on the importance ofpreserving specimen for research andstudies. There are different methodsof preserving plants like collecting drypressed specimen, paintings, photos

etc. He showed the dried pressedspecimen of Saxifraga Stenophylla andPodophyllum hexandrum (good for sorethroat) preserved well and useful forstudy process. If the plant or thespecimen is pressed well it will last longwithout any damage and can beexamined closely. With technologicaladvancement, digital cameras andmonitoring, pressed specimen shouldnot be considered old fashioned but asa significant tool in doing researchstudies. There are around 5 millionpressed specimen of plant species from1868 in England.
He is a good speaker and his lecture isinteresting which leaves a lastingimprint in one’s memory givingreference stories of particular plantspecies: like Cordyceps chinensis orCaterpillar fungus associated withMaoist in Nepal was a source ofgenerating fund for their sustenanceand Ephedra Intermedia/Gerardianawhich contains alkaloid ephedrine ledto the expulsion of footballer DiegoMaradona in world cup soccer becauseof the particular drug he used.
Chris Chadwell is a freelance lecturer,plant hunter, Botanist and a Himalayanconsultant. In 1994 he was theConsultant to the Royal Government ofBhutan on "Cultivation of MedicinalPlant for Traditional Medicine Project".He has toured around the world givinglectures, presentation of slide shows inUK, USA, New Zealand, France,Switzerland and India.
II INTERNATIONALSYMPOSIUM ON
TRADITIONAL MEDICINEAND CONTEMPLATIVEPRACTICES – BRAZIL
Dr. Dawa, former director of MTK andadvisor to (materia medica department,herbal product research department andquality control lab) was deputed by theadministration to attend the IIInternational Symposium on TraditionalMedicine and Contemplative Practicesat Sao Paulo, Brazil from 15-18September, 2010.
Dr. Dawa attended the meeting withUNIFESP International Affairs Officestaff on 15 September, 2010 and gave abrief introduction of Men-Tsee-Khangactivities and discussed about the aimsand objectives of exchange andcollaborating between the University ofSao Paulo – UNIFESP and Men-Tsee-Khang.
Dr. Dawa visited Albert EinsteinHospital and spoke on the Introductionof Tibetan medicine to 70 senior citizensthere. He lectured on “Basic Conceptsof Tibetan Medicine” at the PalasAthena on 16 September to around 80people gathered there. There wasquestion answer session after the talk.
The opening ceremony of thesymposium commenced on 17September, 2010 at Rua Botucatu,UNIFESP. Dr. Dawa addressed thepublic on ‘The Traditional TibetanMedicine in the Orient and theOccident” in the morning and therewere around 300 participants for thetalk. After the conclusion of talks byother two speakers, question answersession followed. He spoke on“Traditional Medicine Production – theTibetan Medical and Astrological
Institute case” in the afternoon. Therewere scholars, researchers and expertsfrom 17 countries who joined the IIInternational Symposium on TraditionalMedicine and Contemplative Practices.The points of interest discussed duringthe symposium were on promotion,preservation and efficacy of Traditionalmedicines, research methods, sharingexperiences and knowledge exchange
programs. The symposium successfullyended on 18 September, 2010.

The Branch Clinic in Chauntra wasinugurated on 8th July, 2010. TheDirector, Dr. Tsewang Tamdin,Registrar, Mr. Tsering Phuntsok of MTKwas present at the ceremony.
Mr. Dhonyoe Jagortsang, president ofthe Tibetan Khampa Industrial SocietyBir, inugurated the new Branch Clinicof Men-Tsee-Khang. The retired staffquarters and branch clinic werecommemorated on the same day.

This is the 54th Branch Clinic set up byMTK in exile and Dr. Ngawang Khentse(retired) is the CMO of the branchclinic.
The branch clinic is set up to serve thecommunity living there throughtraditional Tibetan system of healthcare as well as the retired staff of MTK.
CHENNAI, TAMIL NADUSOUTH INDIA
Men-Tsee-Khang (Tibetan Medical &Astrological Institute of His Holinessthe Dalai Lama) opened a new Branchclinic in Chennai, South India on 20August, 2010 and the clinic is locatedin the compound of C.P. RamaswamyAiyar Foundation. The chief guestduring the occasion was the Presidentof the Foundation, Mrs. SarojiniVaradappan.
The inaugural function started withinvocation to Medicine Buddha forspiritual blessings. Then the guestofhonor lighted butter lamps and gave akey note address on the occasion. The
other dignitaries present were TheManaging Director of the C.P.Ramaswami Foundation, Dr. NandithaKrishna, Mrs. Pushpa Chari and Mr.Claude Arpi, who has been in
association with Tibet and its peoplefor a long time and founder of TibetPavillion in Auroville, Pondicherry. Dr.Dorjee Rapten Neshar, Former Chairmanof The Central Council of TibetanMedicine (CCTM), CMO Bangalorebranch clinic represented MTK duringthe inaugural function and thanked theFoundation for their support on behalf
of MTK. The Tibetan StudentsAssociation Madras also participatedin the inaugural ceremony andentertained the gathering with TibetanCultural programs.
The team from Bangalore Branch clinichas been visiting Chennai since 2001to treat patients with various disordersaccording to traditional Tibetan systemof health care. The medical camp inChennai was possible with the supportof Late Col. Gopalachari who was apatient of Late Dr. Lobsang Wangyal,
personal physician to His Holiness theDalai Lama, MTK in Dharamsala. Helater began treatment from Bangalorebranch clinic and hence invited thedoctor to visit Chennai and serve thecommunity there with traditionalTibetan system of healing. The teamhas been visiting Chennai for the last 9years to Chetpet in Harrington Roadand the Ramaswami Aiyar Foundation .
This is the second branch clinic openedby MTK in 2010 and is the 55th branchclinic, since its inception in 1961 in exile.Dr. Nyima Gyaltsen has been appointedas the resident doctor of ChennaiBranch clinic.

COGNIZE SOWA-RIGPASYSTEM OF MEDICINE
A bill to amend the Indian MedicineCentral Council Act, 1970 was soughtto regulate educational standards,maintaining Register of names ofapproved Medical Practitioners of theCentral Council of Indian Medicine,overcome shortage of staff andinfrastructure of Indian systems ofmedicine and recognize Sowa-Rigpa asa system of “Indian Medicine” in 2006.
The union cabinet, under theGovernment of India approved in 2009for amendment of the Indian MedicineCentral Council Act, 1970 to makenecessary changes to accept andrecognize Sowa-Rigpa system ofmedicine on par with other system oftraditional medicines.
The Indian Medicine Central Council(Amendment) Bill 2010 was introducedin the Rajya Sabha on 6 May, 2010 andreferred to Department-relatedParliamentary Standing Committee forexamination and report within threemonths. The Parliamentary StandingCommittee considered the Bill in threemeetings on 9 June, 21 July and 9August, 2010. Extensive discussionswith experts on the report of the Billwere considered and on 9 August, 2010the committee adopted the draft report.The report was presented to the RajyaSabha and laid on the table of Lok Sabhaon 11 August, 2010.
On 25 August, 2010 Rajya Sabhapassed the Indian Medicine CentralCouncil Amendment Bill 2010recognizing Sowa-Rigpa system ofmedicine practiced in the Sub-Himalayan regions.
Many issues are interlinked as to theactual representation of Sowa-Rigpapractitioners and teachers in the CentralCouncil of Indian Medicine. TheObservation and recommendation of theParliamentary Standing Committee is ofthe firm view “that there is an urgent
need for a survey for assessing theexact number of traditional Sowa-Rigpa practitioners andprofessionally trained practitioners(state-wise). This is all the morerequired in view of the process oflegal recognition of Sowa-Rigpasystem having been initiated by theDepartment”.
The committee also pointed out thatwith the statutory recognition theneed for having a uniform standardsyllabus for different courses, dulycertified and recognized by theappropriate authority will also beessential. It also stressed theDepartment for being cautious informulating rules and regulationsstrictly as there would be scope forincrease in quackery and illegal drugmanufacturing units soon after thesystem is given legal recognition. Animportant issue raised wasconcerning the composition of Sowa-Rigpa drugs and formulations andtheir labelling. In recent past someAYUSH drugs were banned in fewcountries abroad due to the use ofheavy metals and the matter wascleared after demonstrating theefficacy and safety of drugs. So thecommittee observed “since the Billproposes to bring the Sowa-Rigpasystem from the informal to the formalsector, it is imperative that, in this
era of science, the ingredients of theSowa Rigpa should be properly testedin a transparent manner” and “TheCommittee is all for scientificvalidation of the Sowa Rigpa medicinesand the initiatives of collaborativeresearch undertaken by the TibetanMedical Insitute, Dharamsala.However, the Committee suggests thatthe Department of AYUSH shoulddetermine the veracity of suchresearches before they are opened forpublic use”.

Mrs. Suri, daughter ofLate, Mr. Prem Nath Kohli made thepresentation of the gold medal withmounted certificate to Dr. TseringNorbu, Head of Materia MedicaDepartment, on behalf of MTK for itssignificant work on research andstudies of Himalayan Flora used inTibetan medicine and acknowledgedcontribution of all the staff past andpresent.

MATERIA MEDICAHERBARIUM
The Materia Medica departmentstarted doing research on plants andminerals since 1988 as a part ofResearch Department. In 1994 it wasmade a separate distinct unit forefficient management and to further itsresearch and collect specimens foridentification of herbs used in Tibetanmedicine.
The Herbarium of Materia Medicadepartment has dry pressed specimensof 4550 medicinal herbs collected overa period of 21 years and 3651 paintingsand slide pictures. These samples arecollected from seventeen differentplaces in India and Nepal. It also hascollection of 30 different minerals usedin Tibetan medicine.
The department preserves samples ofactual plant specimen and minerals for
identification and to verify their qualityfor compounding medicines in thepharmaceutical department. It strivesin the research for correct identificationof Tibetan and Latin botanical names.It introduces medicinal herbs throughslide shows, presentation and lectures
to the medical students in the collegeas well as to researchers, practitionersand interested people in this particularfield.

Govt. of India at Una from 25 - 27September, 2010. The Fair wasorganized at Govt. Boys SeniorSecondary Ground, Una. Themanaging partners of the AyurvedDepartment for the organization of thisFair are the Ayurvedic DrugManufacturers Association (ADMA)and District Administration, Una.
The guest of honour on the occasionwas the Honorable Chief Minister ofHimachal Pradesh, Mr. Prem KumarDhumal. Men-Tsee-Khang alsoparticipated in the AROGYA Fairexhibiting medicine and astrologythangka, pills and herbal products. Dr.Tsering Thakchoe Drungtso, Lecturerof TMAI College headed the team,consisting of two doctors, twoaccountants, a dispenser and twodrivers. The eight members of the teamworked tirelessly for 3 days fromregistering of the patients, consulting,dispensing of medicines and installingthe exhibition.

The doctorhad an opportunity to explain and givean introduction of Tibetan medicine tothe Honorable Chief Minister while ontour of the exhibition. Interview andmedia coverage, consultation andtreatment to the patients made the teamextremely busy and active during theFair. The team of doctors gavetreatment to 699 patients, besidesadvising on diet and life style.
TRADE FAIR IN SAKET,SOUTH DELHI
The Tibetan Chamber of Commerceorganized a Trade Fair in South Delhiat the Saket DLF Shopping Mall from24-26 September, 2010 for three days.Men-Tsee-Khang Exports and Meerutbranch clinic participated with 15 otherbusiness participants (12 individualand 3 groups) in the Trade Fair at Saketshopping mall.
Men-Tsee-Khang export displayedproducts, books and the branch clinicprovided consultation and treatment tothe public. This fair brought awarenessamong the people regarding thetraditional Tibetan system of medicine,diagnoses and its treatment process.The doctor gave consultation andtreatment to 120 patients. Brochuresand pamphlets on products andmedicine were distributed and coverageon Tibetan medicine and its treatmentwas out in the newspapers.
The Fair attracted many people fromdifferent walks of life and wide publicitywas given. This shopping mall usuallyattracts large number of people who areinterested in garments, jewellery,clothing etc but this time the public hadthe opportunity to experience adifferent enterprise of the ancientTibetan system of healing and itsproducts unfamiliar to them earlier. ThisFair helped to introduce and promoteTibetan medicine and its herbalproducts.
PHARMACY PREPARESCHONGSHI DAWOE UNDERFULL MOON
The knowledge of formulations orpreparation of medicines according toTibetan science of healing (TibetanSowa Rigpa) is a rich, unique and in-depth system of science practicedthousands of years back in Tibet andstill followed in exile in India by thePharmaceutical Department of Men-Tsee-Khang.
On the evening of 23 September, 2010corresponding to the Lunar calculationsof Metal Tiger Year, eighth lunar month,the fifteenth day or the full moon day -seven doctors, 43 staff and 40 studentsof the Tibetan Medical College
assembled in the Department andstarted the preparation of ChongshisDawoe or Calcite prepared undermoon light.
This special formulation practice hasto be done during the Eighth lunarmonth or middle autumn month or the15th day of lunar calendar i.e full moonday when the moon has the highestcooling potencies. The calcite isdetoxified, then crushed into powderform and is put on a flat grinding stoneadding cow milk into it. The mixture isblended well and made into flat doughand then dried under the moon lighton the roof of the building. By 12.30a.mthey had prepared 750 kilos ofpowdered calcite blended with cowmilk into flat dough. This is then keptto dry under the full-moon light. The

next day before sunrise at 5 a.m thedried dough is collected and placedinside a room because it should not beexposed to sunlight or heat. This is aspecial formulation, a rejuvenatingprocess and is one of the essentialformulae to be used in the formulationsof stomach and liver disorder remedies.

The doctors and lecturersreceived the teachings in the afternoonfrom 2p.m-4.30p.m and this specialtransmission and teaching wascompleted in five days.
As in the case of empowerments (Wang- purification, initiation, teaching andvisualizing oneself as inseparable withthe master who in the process isconsidered the deity itself are theprocess of meditating to gain higherspiritual insight) this specialinstruction is also important for doctorsas it has relevance to Gyud-shi andYuthok Nyingthik (the offering of tsokand feast during the 10 lunar day -Guru Rinpoche day and 25 lunar day -Dakini day) spiritual healing process.Receiving instructions from a masterwho has received that lineage fromanother teacher that possess direct andunbroken lineage is an essential aspectin the spiritual process. It is importantthat one receives instructions on anyteaching from a lineage master before itis lost forever. CLINICAL TRIAL ONGASTRIC ULCER
The Clinical Research Departmentstarted its clinical trial on Gastric Ulcerfrom 1 August, 2010 in Dharamsala.There were four doctors who diagnosedthe patients through traditional Tibetansystem of healing, assisted by threedoctors and a staff of the department.The team of doctors screened 825 pa-
tients in two weeks time. The doctorswent to the monasteries, schools andthe public resident in Dharamsala.Amongst the patients screened, 125 pa-tients did Endoscopy according to west-ern scientific laboratory test . Eightpatients were selected for the clinicaltrial on Gastric Ulcer and have alreadystarted the treatment process. As therewere inadequate patients suffering fromGastric Ulcer for the clinical trial, the de-partment and the related doctors con-vened a meeting to make changes in thetrial process. The matter was put forthto the academic council and was de-cided to do a Pilot study trial on PepticUlcer and Gastritis on 1 October, 2010.
The announcement of the clini-cal trial on Gastric Ulcer was pub-lished in Vol XVI, March 2010 is-sue. Changes has been made inthe the clinical trial process andso instead of Gastric Ulcer the de-partment will start the clinical trialon Peptic Ulcer and Gastritis with50 patients on each of the disor-ders.

He was born and raised in Texas, USA and after graduatingfrom high school went to Brigham Young University, Utah.He is currently studying Physiology in the Brigham YoungUniversity with hopes of attending medical school. Besides,his deep interest in medicine and functionality of the humanbody, he also enjoys international development, has apassion for photography and film. He is also working onbuilding new media studios which ultimately will be in chargeof building websites. His first abroad experience was inArgentina, where he served a full time religious humanitarianmission for two years.
SOCIAL SERVICE BY MTK BRANCH INLADAKHLadakh is situated in the northern part of India, 434 kilometersfrom Srinagar in Kashmir and at a height of 3500 meters abovesea level. This beautiful place with almost no rains in theautumn and flock of tourist during the season, were suddenlyin the grip of nature's fury in the form of cloud burst on 5thAugust, 2010. The place was flooded bringing destructionto man, property, infrastructure, animal husbandry etc andwas cut off from the main stream of life.
Realizing the grave situation, Men-Tsee-Khangadministration, directed the branch clinics in Ladakh andChoglamsar to provide free medical facilities to the people inthe area suffering from shock, distress and grievances. Theybroadcast the charity event of free medical health care in thevalley on 11 -12 August, 2010. The branch clinics in Ladakhand Choglamsar provided health care consulation andtreatment to the people who suffered from the disaster forfifteen and seven days respectively..

Pharmaceutical Department, Men-Tsee-Khangperformed medicine consecration ceremony from3-6 September, 2010 for four days. Garje KhamtrulRinpoche Jamyang Dhondrup and 15 monks fromNamgyal monastery carried out the special cer-emony.
According to the tradtional Tibetan medicine rawmaterials, herbs and manufactured pills are con-sidered precious by nature and it is important toperform spiritual ritual - medicine consecrationceremony. The pharmacy compound, finishedpills and herbs received blessings through theconsecration from medicine Buddha and deitiesto further purify and sanctify the area as a wholespiritually. Thus medicine as a chemical formula-tion and sacred blessings collectively helps incuring diseases effectively. Doctors, studentsand staff participated in the ceremony.

CAUTION1. Counterfeited Rinchen Rilbu (Precious Pills) are being sold by some unscrupulous people. In the public interest, we are stickinghologram of our logo on our packaging to distinguish our Rinchen Rilbu. If viewed in adequate light, our 3-D hologram depicts ourregistered logo with the word ‘Men-Tsee-Khang’ inscribed in Tibetan & English. So, look for the shiny and silvery sticker on ourRinchen Rilbu.
2. Some private doctors have travelled abroad and to Bodhgaya (India) falsely claiming that they represent Men-Tsee-Khang. Thepublic must be cautious about the recurrences of such acts.
