The Bucket List seems to be the p o p u l a r t e r m these days for things one wants to do before the end of ones life. Well one of the things that has b e e n o n m y

Bucket List for some time is to spend a year or two wandering around the country in a motor home and I have decided to check that off my list. So I am in the process of moving out of my house and into the motor home. Once more it is back to packing everything up so it can go into storage one again. Less is going into storage this time and the number of cars is being reduced (see ads). Currently I plan to continue doing the news letter but everything will be done via the internet. If we find that this does not work or is not beneficial to the club a change will then be made.

Along that same line a quick look at the adjacent column shows thirteen club positions but only nine people. These names and perhaps another ten or so have been filling these positions for some years as well as being the key folks in bring about two very successful national events in less than ten years. While hard to believe, another year is almost gone an the VP is going to be looking for some new volunteers to fill club positions. If you have never done this or it has been a while since holding a club position please give it some consideration - - at least a few of us are getting really really old and tired.

Till next month - - - Bob

Hi Everyone…September looks to be a busy month starting with the British Invasion at the El Cajon Classic Cruise on Wed. Sept.2. We have plenty of space for our cars reserved for us on Orange Ave. off Main Street in El Cajon. If possible we want to get our cars there by 3-3:30pm. You should still be able to bring cars in later if you can’t get there that early. The show runs from 4pm to around 6:30 or so. There are quite a few restaurants and eateries around that can handle small to large groups if we want to get a bite to eat after the show. This was a fun event last year and there are always a lot of very cool cars. At our last meeting there seemed to be interest in a drive to Julian on Saturday Sept. 12.We could enjoy a nice drive and do some antiquing, shopping and walking as well as stopping for apple pie and cider. Check your calendars and we’ll talk more about it at our next meeting on Sept.9th. If you can’t make the meeting send me an E-mail or give me a call if you are interested in going. September 26th and 27th is the Coronado Speed Festival at Naval Air Station North Island. This seems to be a popular event. Contact Mike Williams or Rick Snover for more info. Sunday September 27th is also the 4th Annual Beach’N 101 Cruise. I understand that this is a very cool “new” event and chance to drive your car on Hwy 101 through some beautiful coast communities and landmarks. Sunday October 4th is the 30th Annual British Car Day and Picnic at Admiral Baker Field, from 7:30am to 3pm. Pre registration is $20 per car by Sept. 11 and $25 per car on the day of the show. This is a free spectator event so tell your friends and family to come on out. Bring your own picnic lunch, beer and wine are ok but no hard stuff and no glass bottles. Cans and plastic are fine. No pets and no vendors. Saturday October 17th we will have our annual Octoberfest party. Bob and Sue Farnsworth have offered to host this event at their lovely home in Ramona. I will have sign up sheets for salads and desserts ,etc. at our next meeting. I hope to see everyone soon…Lynne

News for California Drivers: Vehicle License Fees Have Gone UpEffective May 19, 2009

If you recently received a renewal letter for your vehicle registration, you might have noticed a slight increase in the amount over prior years. The Legislature authorized the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) to increase the Vehicle License Fee (VLF) from .65 percent to 1.15 percent of the price of the vehicle – a change which went into effect May 19, 2009. The DMV wants to help you understand what this new change means, and how it will impact your pocketbook for the next few years. The VLF was established by the Legislature in 1935 in lieu of a property tax on vehicles. Legislators created a formula which is based upon the purchase price of the vehicle or the value of the vehicle when acquired. The new VLF increase applies to all cars, motorcycles, boats, recreational vehicles, and trailer homes. Exempt from the VLF increase are commercial vehicles such as “big rigs” that weigh over 10,001 pounds, trailers and semi-trailers in the Permanent Trailer Identification (PTI) program. So what does this mean for you? Well, you should expect to see an increase generally in the range of $5 per $1,000 of the vehicle price (when purchased). For example, if you bought your vehicle in 2008 for $15,000, your VLF would have been about $97 last year. That same car now has a VLF of about $172 - an increase of approximately $75. The increased VLF will continue through June 30, 2011, but may be extended to June 30, 2013, pending the state budget. A percentage of the revenue received from the VLF will be used to help the DMV improve its services both online and in field offices across California. If your registration was due on or is due after May 19 and you have not received your billing notice please visit www.dmv.ca.gov and click on the More Online Services link to find out when your vehicle registration renewal fees are due. You can even calculate an estimate of your vehicle registration renewal fees and determine the VLF

Subject: DMV Monthly Newsletter Article

If your vehicle registration renewal notice has arrived in the mail recently, you may have noticed an increase in fees. To help California during these tough economic times, new legislation has been implemented to increase the Vehicle License Fee, a fee that drivers pay annually when renewing their car registration. The DMV would like to inform California drivers about this new law and how it will directly affect them. The article inserted below, “News for California Drivers: Vehicle License Fees Have Gone Up”, provides details on the VLF increase that went into effect May 19, 2009 and what drivers can expect as a result. This information will help drivers understand why fees have increased. Additional information on the VLF increase is also available on the DMV Web site at www.dmv.ca.gov. We encourage you to publish this article in your newsletter or post it online, to help your readers learn the facts about this new law. If you have already paid your registration and would like to calculate your fees for next year, visit www.dmv.ca.gov and use the online fee calculator. Should you choose to publish this article, we’d appreciate receiving a copy via e-mail to [email protected] or via fax to (916) 492-0927. Thank you for helping the DMV share this important information! If you have any questions regarding this article or would like any additional information about the DMV or the services it provides, please contact me directly at [email protected] or (916) 239-4615. amount. And, as long as you’re eligible for it and you receive your renewal notice with the special Renewal Identification Number (RIN) on it, you will still be able to renew your vehicle registration online. It is important to the DMV that California drivers are informed about driver related changes that will affect them, both on and off the road. The best way to learn the most up-to-date information is to regularly visit the DMV Web site, www.dmv.ca.gov. There you can learn about new laws and regulations make an appointment when you must visit a local field office, and take care of other DMV-related transactions online. NEW MEMBERS, BIRTHDAYS, & ANNIVERSARIES

CAR OF THE YEAR AWARD

In an effort to recognize Club members who participate with their Healeys, the Austin Healey Club of San Diego awards Car of the Year (COTY) points for various activities. Opportunities to collect CotY points include any car-related events (shows, drives, rallies, etc.) sponsored by an official organization (other car clubs, auto museum, city chambers of

commerce, charities) where you participate with your Healey. These events may or may not be listed in the newsletter. The participant is responsible for providing proof of participation (entrance fee receipt, photo, corroboration from other club members etc.) to the CotY recorder, Gisela Putzke (858-486-3870 or [email protected]), within 30 days after the event. AHCSD events will have a sign-in sheet that will be forwarded to the recorder. For multi-Healey families, be sure to indicate which car(s) you drove.

CotY points currently approved by the Board are: AHCSD Meetings & Tech Sessions 4 pts; AHCSD driving Events, Parties etc. 6 pts; California Healey Week 16 pts; Healey Rendezvous 16 pts; Austin Healey Conclave 16 pts; S.D. British Car Day & Rolling B.C.D. 10 pts; Other non-AHCSD one day events 2 pts; Other non-AHCSD multi-day events 4pts. The Board on a case-by-case basis may award points for other events.
