1 Welcome Guests! We are glad you are here! Here are a few things we thought you would like to know to help you feel at home with us today: Please accept one of the green bags that you will find on your way out of the front entrance of the sanctuary as our gift to you. Restrooms are located in the large room adja- cent to the sanctuary. Our ushers will be glad to point you in the proper direction. Children are always welcome to worship with us. However, for your convenience, a nursery is available for parents with children 3 years old and younger. The nursery is staffed during the 9:15 Bible Study Hour & 10:45am service. Par- ents may use this room during the 8:00am service as well, being able to watch the service on the TV located in that room. An usher will be happy to help you find the nursery room. The offering is an opportunity for our members to support the Lord’s work at Trinity. As our guest, we ask only that you sign our Friendship Pad as it is passed down the pew. When we celebrate the Lord’s Supper, we do so convinced that Jesus gives us His true body and blood for the forgiveness of our sins. Re- ceiving the Lord’s Supper here expresses not only fellowship with the Lord, but also agreement with the teachings of this congregation. There- fore communicant members of LC-MS congrega- tions are always welcome to commune with us, and other guests wishing to commune are kindly asked to speak with the pastor before the ser- vice. We cherish the opportunity to worship with all followers of Jesus, and we regret the sad divisions within Christianity. Whether you are communing with us today or not, please join us (and Jesus!) in praying for truth and unity within His Church. This facility is equipped with a hearing assis- tance system. Please ask an usher for a receiv- er. We would love to have your family join us for our Fellowship Hour & T3 beginning on September 16th that takes place Sunday mornings at 9:15am. Ask any of our members or the pastor and we will be happy to help you find your way and get settled in. In Christ, Pastor Carl Lehenbauer September 2, 2018

The offering is an opportunity for our members to support the Lord’s work at Trinity. As our guest, we ask only that you sign our Friendship Pad as it is passed down the pew.

ORDER OF WORSHIP—September 1-2, 2018 5:00 pm & 8:00 am

Prayer Before Worship Gracious Lord, You are worthy of my worship. I owe You more than just this hour; I owe You my whole life. Receive my praise and my thanksgiving, and fill me with the joy of Your salvation, through Jesus Christ, Amen.

Time of Greeting Opening Hymn: “Praise to You and Adoration” #692

Opening Liturgy p.203

Psalm 32:1-7 (Read Responsively)

Children’s Message (8:00)

Hymn: “Have No Fear Little Flock” (#735)

Message Part 1 (Based on Luke 12:22-34) Then Jesus said to his disciples: "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. Life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest? "Consider how the lilies grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today, and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, how much more will he clothe you, O you of little faith! And do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it. For the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father knows that you need them. But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well. "Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom. Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will not be exhausted, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Message Part 2 (Based on Romans 12: 1-8) Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God--this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will. For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you. Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man's gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith. If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach; if it is en-couraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully.

Hymn: “Take My Life and Let It Be” (#783)

Message Part 3 (Based on Genesis 3: 14-19) So the LORD God said to the serpent, "Because you have done this, "Cursed are you above all the livestock and all the wild animals! You will crawl on your belly and you will eat dust all the days of your life. And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel." To the woman he said, "I will greatly increase your pains in childbearing; with pain you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you." To Adam he said, "Because you listened to your wife and ate from the tree about which I commanded you, 'You must not eat of it,' "Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat of it all the days of your life. It will produce thorns and thistles for you, and you will eat the plants of the field. By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return."

Hymn: “In the Shattered Bliss of Eden” (#572) v. 1-4

From the Business Manager’s Desk…… It’s always good advice not to eavesdrop in on other people’s conversations, but the waiting room at the dentist office was empty, except for me and the person leaning on the front coun-ter talking to the receptionist. I caught the discussion, some-where in the middle, and I heard the following; “That’s right, I remember when his son left for college. You know, I wonder if he ever amounted to anything.“ That comment has always struck me as odd. We do it all the time. We observe talent in people, then build up some criteria for success, based on our own assessment, then circle back around later to see if they met our arbitrary level of expectation. Worse yet, we determine what it means to “amount to anything,” by deciding what success is important and what it should look like. Can you imagine the friends, families, neighbors and classmates of Jesus as a young boy, years later, pondering aloud, “Remember Joseph’s son, Je-sus? Gee, I wonder if he ever amounted to anything.” God’s per-spective on success and achievement is very different than the world’s vision of that. His calling and purpose for us may end up being completely different than the obvious gifts and talents we showed “potential” for when we hopped out of the nest and set out on our journey to take on the world. For those who knew me back in 1988, and wonder if I ever amounted to anything . . . no, not really. I am still a work in progress, but I’m quite glad to let God determine His idea of success in my life. If it was merely up to me and the world, well, I’m sorry to report nothing but failure and disappointment. Thanks be to God, that’s not what matters.

September Prayer Topic: Those struggling in their prayer life Father in heaven, there are so many times in our lives when we struggle with prayer. We feel our words fall short, we allow our minds to wander, or we simply allow the busyness of our lives to keep us from talking to You at all. We pray for Your forgiveness. We thank You for Your precious presence in our lives that never waivers and we are grateful for Your Holy Spirit, who intercedes for us when we don’t know what to pray. You sustain us when we feel the bottom falling out from us. Oh, Lord my God, Holy are You. I adore You. Amen.

Trinity’s Nehemiah project for September is all about giving our students the best by equipping

our staff to minister at the highest level possible. In the world of education, Professional Develop-ment is critical to the growth of teaching staff; whether it is our ministering to a student after a crisis, or reaching every unique learner in a given

classroom. As a school, we want to have the knowledge and expertise of the most current and effective pedagogical methods, the classroom tools for efficiency, and trained mindsets to reach all of our students; but most importantly, preparing each of our students for a lifetime of success! To engage in all of our targeted areas, we are looking to raise $5,000. (Donation envelopes can be found in the Gathering Room. Checks payable to Trinity—Note: Septem-ber Nehemiah Project). We love our students and want the best for them. As a school, we are working hard to ensure that all of our new efforts are aligned with the mission: A Passion for Learning. A Heart for Christ. We hope that you will partner with us and support our efforts to serve our students. Trinity’s teachers already have a deep love for our children and a passion for learning – please consider joining in this (HIS) mission to make our school the BEST it can be by supporting our Professional Development efforts! THANK YOUR FOR YOUR RESPONSE!- June & July’s Nehemiah Project went towards Trinity’s Summer VBS program. Donations are still coming in and we are grateful for the generosity of so many that help us raise $ 1,936!!

TRINITY’S FUNERAL LUNCHEON COMMITTEE is grateful for all those who have willingly volun-teered to help bake desserts or prepare a salad for the many funeral luncheons that take place here at Trinity. Families who are grieving the loss of a loved one are so appreciative of the work by the many volunteers that make the day of the funeral a bit less stressful and are thrilled to be able to offer their family and friends a time to gather for fellowship. SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 2nd is LWML MITE BOX SUNDAY- We have reached our goal for the last biennium and are now working on Grant #1: $12,000 to Bethany Lutheran Church. These funds would be used for the following outreach pro-grams: Kids for Christ program, food pantry, the soup kitchen, the men’s fellowship program, dis-tribution of school supplies, ministry to the home-less, and the clothing pantry. We are about 1/3 of the way to filling this grant. Please give generous-ly. Our mite box is located on the LWML table in the entryway. Thank you. THANK YOU FOR YOUR RESPONSE! At the beginning of summer, Trinity’s leadership team was excited to offer our con-gregational members a brand new service, giving them a chance to learn about wills, estate plans, charitable giving, trusts, and all of the latest information about making educated plans for your future. Many of you responded and are now reap-ing the benefits of this service. This service is FREE to members, but space is limited. In partnership with The Lutheran Legacy Foundation, Craig Mellendorf of SFC Estate Coaching will meet with you for a confidential discussion and analysis, and provide you with a plan and a process for all of the necessary steps. You can learn more about the process, and about Craig, by visiting www.sfcestatecoaching.com and you can also take advantage of this service by scheduling your consultation at https://visibook.com/49o2eeywf3hydgm8h.
