ALTHOUGH THERE ARE MANY CORROSION RESISTANT ALLOYS THE MOST COMMONLY USED ARE STAINLESS STEEL AND A FEW OF THE HIGH NICKEL ALLOYS.
THE NEED FOR CORROSION RESISTANT ALLOYS IN PIPING SYSTEMS IS TO CONDUCT FLUIDS AND GASES THAT CONTAIN HIGHLY CORROSIVE CONTAMINANTS NOT NORMALLY SUITABLE FOR CARBON STEEL PIPING.
FULL TUBE WALL THICKNESS OF CRAS CAN BE USED FOR CORROSIVE FLUIDS BUT THE COST IS EXTREME - SO INTERIOR LINING OF LOWER COST STEEL PIPING WITH THIN LAYER OF CORROSION RESISTANT ALLOYS PRESENTS HIGH VALUE.
WHEN A CRA IS APPLIED TO THE PIPE INSIDE DIAMETER COST PER FOOT OF THE PIPE SYSTEM IS REDUCED THE PIPING SYSTEM CAN CONDUCT HIGHLY CORROSIVE MATERIALS STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY IS MAINTAINED BY THE HEAVY WALL LOWER COST STEEL PIPING.
CLAD PIPING CAN BE FOUND IN DIAMETERS RANGING FROM 25MM TO OVER 400-MM WITH COMBINED WALL THICKNESSES OF OVER 20-MM. THE CLAD LAYER NEED ONLY BE 2 3 MM THICK.
