SEPTEMBER 12th
STAFFING NEWS Mitch Smart is getting married this Sunday to his lovely fiancé To-
ry. We wish them a great wedding day and a wonderful life togeth-
er. Next week they are heading off to Thailand for their honey-
moon.
FOOTY DAY This year our annual footy day has been moved to this coming
Monday, 16th September, with Mr Goldie and Mr Thomson organ-
ising the ‘AFL Roadshow’ to visit our school. The students will en-
joy a 40 minutes session rotating through a range of activities us-
ing various inflatables. It promises to be a really fun day. Children
are invited to come along in their favourite footy team’s colours.
The PFA are organising a free sausage sizzle at lunchtime. My
thanks to the Physical Education Faculty for organising this fun
event for our students. I wonder what colours I will wear.
WARMER WEATHER PLEASE! This term has seen many students and staff succumb to viruses
resulting in many days away from school. One of Dale Goldsmiths
many roles is to find replacement teachers apart from a regular
group of folk we use. Over the last few weeks, the Teacher Relief
Agencies we use have been completely out of teachers indicative
of the amount of illness in the Eastern suburbs. We are most
grateful for our staff who have helped as we have moved sessions
and programs around to ensure grades have teachers.
OSHCLUB PARENTS We would like to ask that parents dropping their children off at
OSHCLUB in the morning to avoid using the teacher’s car parking
spaces as many teacher start arriving from 8am onwards.
Thankyou for your cooperation.

PRINCIPAL’S NEWS
LET THEM GET BORED! (an interesting article) School holidays often find parents on the receiving end of the refrain ‘I’m bored’. According to Associate Professor Julie Green, Director of the Raising Children Network and acting CEO of the Parenting Research Centre ‘boredom teaches children to push themselves, boosts resili-ence and helps contribute to positive self-esteem’. In fact, being ‘bored’ Green believes can fuel creativity and problem solving.
With a of wealth of activities and resources around children these holidays, not to mention the great outdoors, the refrain ‘I’m bored’ could be met with the challenge of children solving their own ‘problem’ and working out ways in which the can be actively engaged in a play, a task or a project. Allowing our children to benefit from working out what to do with themselves.
To further elaborate the boredom point, here are six surprising science backed benefits of boredom and the reasons we might agree with the British writer and philosopher, Russel Ber-tram, to consider boredom. 1. Boredom leads to creativity and gives us time to daydream 2. Boredom encourages the pursuit of new goals 3. Being bored leads to a great mental brain workout 4. Boredom allows you to see things you never noticed before 5. Boredom allows us to revel in natural entertainment rather than fixate on something
artificial 6. Boredom leads us to reconnect with people around us.
Perhaps parents could try these suggestions in the coming holidays and encourage your chil-
dren solve the ‘I’m bored’ issue themselves.
LAST DAY OF TERM The last day of Term 3 is fast approaching and I would like to remind parents that students will
be dismissed at 2:30pm on Friday 20th
September. Term 4 commences on Monday 7th
Oc-
tober.
