SEPTEMBER 12, 2019 FACS GETS A FACELIFT SHINY NEW CULINARY LAB
Eau Claire North’s Family and Consumer Sciences Department is excited to share
with you our newly renovated Culinary Lab. For the past five years we have
worked to create a plan that would support the needs of our increasing enrollment
in culinary courses, the need for a safer space to accommodate all students, the
trends of local employment data, the need to have a strong program of study that
would support teaching the Pro-Start industry based curriculum, opportunities for
mentored work experience, and opportunities for potential post-secondary
partnerships. We are excited for Husky Nation to have a space that will support
and address all these needs.
This space would not be possible without the input we received from our
Hospitality Advisory, numerous area businesses, the members of our local
chapter of Wisconsin’s Restaurant Association, and our local technical college and
universities. We hope you’ll be able to join us at an open house later this fall.

HEAD LICE IN SCHOOLS
• Head lice can be a nuisance, but they have not been shown to
spread disease.
• Personal hygiene or cleanliness in the home or school has
nothing to do with getting head lice.
• Transmission of head lice usually occurs through direct contact
with the head of another infested individual.
• Lice cannot hop or fly; they crawl. Nits (eggs) are attached to the
hair shaft with a glue-like substance and are very unlikely to be
transferred successfully to other people. In‐school transmission
is considered to be rare.
• When live head lice are found on a student, the parent/guardian
will be notified by phone. The student will remain in the
classroom, and a letter with treatment information will be sent
home with the student at the end of the day.
• When nits (eggs) are found on a student, the student will remain
in the classroom, and a letter with treatment information will be
sent home with the student at the end of the day.
• Parents are asked to treat for head lice and remove all nits
(eggs) before sending their child back to school. Most lice
treatments do not kill nits, so it is important to remove all nits to
prevent them from hatching into live lice.
• Treatment for lice is not recommended unless the child actually
has lice. Parents are encouraged to make checking for head lice
a part of routine hygiene, as lice is present in the community at
all times of the year.
• Lice cases are tracked, and letters to parents notifying them of
lice in the classroom will be sent out on an as-needed basis as
determined by the school nurse and administrator.
• ECASD procedures for head lice management are based on
recommendations from the CDC, AAP, the National Association
of School Nurses, the WI DPI, and the ECASD Medical Advisor.
We are still awaiting delivery of the 2019 yearbooks. We
had planned for a fall-delivery of the yearbooks, but we
had a very small yearbook staff last year and several of the
pages needed to be completed and/or edited extensively
during the summer. That said, we do anticipate delivery
very soon. Apologies on the delay.
When the books arrive, we plan to distribute them in the
NHS Commons during all lunch shifts for several days.
There will be notification via the daily announcements and
on the North website. If your son or daughter graduated in
the spring, a sibling or family friend will be allowed pick
up a yearbook with written permission (email is fine) to do
so. Or, if you let us know ahead of time, we can have the
yearbook at the reception desk in the main office. Please
contact Cheryl Boone with additional questions at. Thank
you for your patience and understanding!

size of their hand, to this meeting to make something
pretty cool with it.

SENIOR PORTRAIT SUBMISSION The North High School Yearbook staff would like to remind
parents and students of the Class of 2020 that senior pictures
should be taken during the summer months. Since senior
portraits are traditionally printed in color, the deadline for
submission to be included in the yearbook will be Friday,
January 3 -- FIRM. Don’t be disappointed; schedule an
appointment with the photographer of your choice soon.
Only digital photos are accepted for use in the yearbook. We
also suggest that a more traditional pose (head and
shoulders) works best in the yearbook. If you request it, most
photographers in the area will submit a camera-ready, digital
photograph to the school directly as a service to you. Please
request they send the (minimum) wallet-sized file as a jpeg
with a minimum of 300 dpi resolution to [email protected].
All you need to do is select your pose and place the order.
SENIORS – MAKE APPOINTMENTS
Seniors, please make an appointment first quarter to see your
counselor for your senior meeting. Counselors will meet with
every senior to discuss credits, graduation requirements, as
well as post-secondary planning. Stop by Student Services
and set up an appointment with your counselor through Ms.
Forrestal beginning Monday, September 16th.
SENIORS APPLYING TO SCHOOLS Please be aware that the student will be responsible for
submitting the application, application fee, transcript, and
any other supporting documents to the schools in which they
are applying. Students must request a transcript through
North’s homepage using the “order records” icon.
CLASS OF 2020 GROUP PHOTO Stay tuned for more information on a reschedule date.
CLASS OF 2020 ALL NIGHT PARTY
AT ACTION CITY
We are still looking for a chairperson for this year’s All Night
Party at Action City. Please email Janelle Patenaude if you are
interested. We also need many more parent volunteers to
make this important event a success for your students. Please
reach to Janelle if you are interested in helping out!
